The Best Of Panama - Trek International Safaris
The Best Of Panama February 24 - March 2, 2016 ABOUT PANAMA The word Panama means a coastal area with an abundance of fish, with two oceans and many rivers, bays and lagoons in between, one can see why. With just over 3.5 million inhabitants it is one of the least populated countries in Central America. However, more than half live in the Panama City-Colon corridor. Panama is the only place in the world where you can see the sun rise on the Pacific and set on the Atlantic and is only 50 miles across at its narrowest point. Today Panama is a booming tourist destination second only to Costa Rica in Central America. There are jungles full of bird and mammal life, as well as mountains featuring rows of delicious coffee plants. With all of its diversity and solid infrastructure, Panama’s economy is very healthy with a third coming from the Panama Canal that is seeing its traffic increase substantially. PANAMA CITY Panama City is the most international and urbanized city in Central America and very influential in the finance sector. We will begin our journey with three nights at the intimate and upscale Bristol Hotel in the financial district of Panama City. From here we will venture out to the Panama Canal for a private partial transit on board the historical Isla Morada Yacht once owned by gangster Al Capone for smuggling rum from Cuba to U.S. This ful- ly guided trip will offer informative views on the canal and its massive expansion for the post-Panamax era. Our adventure continues from Panama City with a half-day guided fishing for peacock bass on Lake Gatun followed by a shoreline lunch of your day’s catch. This is not really a fishing trip, more of a catching adventure and despite Gatun’s peacocks being smaller than normal size, these fish are real fighters. TROPIC STAR Our trip will include a four night stay at the famous Tropic Star Lodge who has provided the ultimate in offshore and inshore fishing adventures for hundreds of guests for the past 50 plus years. Located 150 miles southeast of Panama City in the pristine, remote Darien jungle; Tropic Star Lodge has more fishing world records than any other resort. Their Pacific waters are famed for holding a vast variety of treasured species including black marlin, blue marlin and sailfish along with monster dorado, roos- terfish and Cubera snapper which attract anglers from all over the world. The lodge is situated on a hillside over- looking beautiful Piñas Bay, from here you can snorkel, kayak, bird watch, hike, or have a relaxing massage and enjoy the pool. TSL accommodates 39 guests in 19 com- fortable-appointed rooms and features two bars, large restaurant and outdoor grill area for dinner under the stars. Our adventurous group of 22 guests will have three days of fishing on board their fleet of 31foot Bertrams, you can book in groups of two or four.
