Kinesthetic Chitchat booklet
Director’s Note Welcome to “Kinesthetic Chitchat!” Tonight's concert features 10 dance works that promise to inspire and delight as our dancers take the stage. Each work showcases student dancers as performing artists led by the imaginations of faculty, guest, student, and legacy choreographers. The works encompass a multiplicity of inspirations and styles, from a curious occurrence of dance and minimalist music, to Steampunk-inspired Contemporary and the fierce energy of the “Battleworks Etude.” Prepare yourselves for works that are unapologetically chatty, works that might carry you off on a tangent, and works that are unexpectedly direct in “Kinesthetic Chitchat.” Stacy Pottinger……………….....Artistic Director Kim Instenes………………….….Costume Design William Newcomb.……………...Light Design Elizabeth Coats……………..…...Stage Manager Jack Lambert………………........Assistant Stage Manager Maura Melfi..………………….....Assistant Stage Manager Colt Luedtke……………………..Run Crew Ashley Hess…………………......Light Board Operator Alexander Klingbiel…………......Sound Board Operator Bethany Sassen………………....Costume Crew Head Bianca Bakanec……..……...…..Costume Crew Hayley Hathaway………………..Costume Crew Meagan Elle………………...…...Costume Crew Jane Burkitt……………………...Make-up Crew Theatre Department Herschel Kruger…………...........Division Chair/ Associate Professor of Theatre Martin McClendon…..................Department Chair/Technical Director/ Assistant Professor of Theatre Corinne Ness……......................Director of Music Theatre/Music Department Chair Anna Antaramian…….................Adjunct Associate Professor of Theatre Maria Carrig……........................Associate Professor of English and Theatre Magdalene Ellsworth……….......Adjunct Instructor of Theatre Laura Gordon………………........Adjunct instructor of Theatre Kim Instenes……………….........Assistant Professor of Theatre Marcella Kearns…………….......Adjunct Instructor of Theatre John Maclay…………………......Assistant Professor of Theatre Patrick Mcguire……………….....Adjunct Professor of Theatre William Newcomb……………....Assistant Technical Director Neil Scharnick…………………...Assistant Professor of Theatre Drew Wimmer……………...........Assistant Technical Director Dance Program Stacy Pottinger….......................Adjunct Assistant Professor of Theatre/Director of Dance Program Emma Draves……………...........Adjunct Instructor of Theatre-Dance Valerie Gonzalez…………..........Adjunct Instructor of Theatre-Dance Faith Halaska……………............Adjunct Instructor of Theatre-Dance For more information about the dance program at Carthage, please visit our web page: www.carthage.edu/dance Forest for the Trees Choreography, Stacy Pottinger with generous contributions from the dancers Music, In C by Terry Riley Kaila Banaczak, violin John Pendray, keyboard Anna Schmidt, flute Dimitri Shapovalov, keyboard Adam Vande Ven, clarinet Just The Beginning… Choreography, Emma Draves Music, Kronos by Twinz Beatz and Oriental Uno by Beats Antique Alex Aviles, Cody Brant, Bryanna Fujino, Steven Hobe, Clayton Irwin, Sean Kelly, Kristin Orban, Kati Schwaber, Samantha Thone, Seles VanHuss, Kelly West, Jenny Wild New Discoveries Choreography, Janelle Knippen Music, The Meadow by Alexandre Desplat Alex Aviles, Hannah Clark, Morgan Forst, Sean Kelly, Kati Schwaber, Sara Wuchte, Kelly West Clayton Irwin Alone in a Million Choreography, Valerie Gonzalez Music, Agnus Dei performed by Rufus Wainwright Whispers Choreography, Valerie Gonzalez Music, River Flows In You by Yiruma Riana Alexandrou, Morgan Diaz, Megan Malone, Libby Nelson, Kristin Orban, Samantha Thone, Josie Tortorella, Jenny Wild Morgan Forst, Libby Nelson, Sara O’Lear, Kylee Pederson, Hannah Shields, Emily Wild Not Quite There Choreography, Kelly West Music, Titanium performed by The Piano Guys Awakening Choreography, Sara Wuchte Music, LAX by Michael Giancchino Hannah Clark, Bryanna Fujino, Sara Wuchte Sean Kelly, Josie Tortorella, Kelly West Mis Instantes Favoritos Choreography, Brenda San Jose Zarate Music, My Favorite Things performed by New Swing Sextet Battleworks Etude (premiered 2003, revised 2012) Choreography: Robert Battle, arranged by Erika Pujič Original Music: Carl Landa Direction: Stacy Pottinger Coaching: Kerry Gallagher Riana Alexandrou, Alex Aviles, Clayton Irwin, Sean Kelly, Libby Nelson, Emily Wild In Silhouette: Steven Hobe, Megan Malone, Kylee Pederson Riana Alexandrou, Sara O’Lear, Kristin Orban, Samantha Thone, Emily Wild, Jenny Wild Morgan Forst, Janelle Knippen, Josie Tortorella This performance is part of a project to develop the materials and methodology for Battleworks Etude.
