It all began in 1965 in Zola Predosa in the province of Bologna, when Fabbrica Automatismi Apertura
Cancelli was founded.
Only a few years after its creation, the FAAC acronym became a symbol for gate openers, for the quality
and reliability of its products.
In addition to developing hydraulic technology to levels still unmatched in the international scene,
FAAC was the first company to foresee the potential of control electronics with microprocessors and its
miniaturisation applied to remote controls. It was this incessant research and innovation that enabled the
company to apply, over time, for 42 international patents for their design solutions.
Over the past twenty years, the company has focused on the development of new technological solutions in
other application areas: automation for garage doors, automatic barriers, automatic pedestrian entrances,
bollards and parking systems with payment collection.
Today, after fifty years of business and thanks to steady growth in all areas of automation and access
control, FAAC has turned into a large multinational industrial group with more than 1,400 people employed
in five continents, 16 manufacturing plants, 24 subsidiaries and a network of over 80 countries served by
official distributors.

The FAAC Group is a story that looks
to the future.
50 years of passion for innovation and automation have led the FAAC Group to the future.
1965-1979
1965: Fabbrica Automatismi Apertura Cancelli was founded in Bologna.
1970: FAAC creates the market for automation for residential use, by applying hydraulic technology to doors and gates.
1979: The first training courses started in Zola Predosa. In the same year in Switzerland, the first subsidiary abroad was opened.
1981-1984
1981: FAAC France was born.
1983: The electronic microprocessor started to be used, an innovation that would prove successful, and soon became the market
standard for the industry.
1984: Model 402 was created, a milestone in the history of automation.
With the opening of FAAC GmbH, the group gains strength in the German and Austrian markets.
1985-1993
1985: FAAC UK was opened.
1988: FAAC USA was born.
1989: What would become FAAC Electronics was acquired, where all the equipment and electronic accessories sold worldwide are
designed and manufactured today.
1990: FAAC SA in Spain was born.
1993: Autostrade SpA engaged FAAC for the creation of high performance automatic barriers for all off its toll roads. In addition, in the
same year, the international patent “Self Learning SLH” was registered which would revolutionise the market for remote controls.
1994-1996
1994: FAAC launched its range of automatic sliding doors. In the same year, GENIUS SpA was acquired, specialised in electromechanical
automation, and FAAC entered the world of vehicle access control with the establishment of the Parking division.
1996: FAAC Research and Development introduced 3D CAD with PRO E and T3 software. From this moment, all projects were created
directly in 3D.
1999-2002
1999: FAAC acquired a majority share in Spazio Italia and entered the Italian market for pedestrian access control.
2000: The first miniature transmitter was created. The FAAC product, covered by an international patent, immediately became the
benchmark for the entire market.
2002: Branches were opened in Poland, Scandinavia, Benelux and Shanghai. With the acquisition of the French Voltec, FAAC made
its entrance into the world of automation for swing shutters.
2005-2006
2005: A new range of products was created, traffic bollards: FAAC City was born.
The expansion into the Asian market continued with the creation of FAAC India.
2006: The company Altron, specialised in tubular motors for the automation of awnings and shutters, was acquired by FAAC.
2007-2010
2007: The Swedish DAAB, a leader in automation systems for doors and gates, became part of the FAAC Group. The company’s
presence in the Far East was completed with the opening of FAAC Australia.
2008: The Group’s presence in the Middle East is strengthened with the opening of FAAC Middle East in Dubai.
2010: The expansion into foreign markets continued with the acquisition of the Spanish Clem Sa and the Dutch Altron BV.
2011-2012
2011: Acquisition of Kemko to enter the end-user market for automatic doors in the Netherlands.
Acquisition of Zeag Group (Switzerland), a global leader in car parking management and access control.
2012: FAAC Turkey and FAAC Russia were born.
Datapark Inc., an international manufacturer of systems for the car parking management and access control, became part of
the FAAC Group.
MAGNETIC Autocontrol Group was acquired, the leading German group in controlling pedestrian and vehicle access.

FAAC Simply automatic is the FAAC Group business unit dedicated to the field of access automation. Representing the
natural evolution of the core business with which FAAC entered the market over 50 years ago, this unit now incorporates
four product lines:

HUB Parking Technology is the FAAC Group’s business unit that develops intelligent and scalable solutions for paid car
parking management.
HUB Parking Technology creates proprietary solutions for all types of clients: airports, terminals, train and bus stations,
stadiums, trade shows and multiplexes, hospitals, hotels, shopping centres and private business spaces.
HUB Parking Technology is divided into three product lines and three highly visible international brands. There are two
business models: direct relationship with the big end users and distribution of technology to independent operators.
