Right in the middle of Kentucky’s
horse farms awaits a true
thoroughbred of a golf course.
Even its designer has impressive
bloodlines. Renowned architect
Rees Jones, son of the revered
Robert Trent Jones, sculpted
this very fast track from the
surrounding rolling hills.
Measuring over 6,800 yards
from the back tees and just under
5,000 yards from the forward
tees, Griffin Gate challenges
beginners and professionals alike.
With gaping bunkers guarding
every green, water in play on 12
of 18 holes and few flat putts,
golfers are chomping at the bit
to play at this destination resort
located in the heart of Bluegrass
country.
Day 2 - Thursday, Sept 18: Ryder Cup (Opening Ceremony)
Meet in the hotel lobby after breakfast for your private transfer to the Ryder Cup
Tournament at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. Golf Digest consistently rates
Valhalla as the “Best in State” and one of “America’s 100 Greatest Courses”. In
addition, Golf Week ranks it as one of “America’s
100 Best Modern Courses”. Valhalla Golf Club
has been the host site for the 1996 and 2000 PGA
Championships, the 2002 PGA Club Professional
Championship and the 2004 Senior PGA
Championship. And of course, in September of
2008, golf’s most illustrious event, the 37th Ryder
Cup, will be contested here. With this, the facility
becomes only the third such in the United States
to host a PGA Championship, a Senior PGA
Championship and a Ryder Cup. Upon arrival (we
are one of the only companies that will drive you
directly onto theValhalla grounds), our on-site guide
will provide a brief orientation to the course and the schedule of the day’s activities,

their first swings to vie for ththe Ryder Cup. In 1927, English seed merchant Samuel A.
Ryder presented the Ryder Cup for the first time to The Professional Golfers’Association
of Great Britain. The trophy was commissioned for £250 and stands 17 inches high, is
nine inches from handle to handle and weighs four pounds. The golfing figure depicted
on the top of the trophy reflects the image of Abe Mitchell, a former gardener himself
and a friend and instructor of Samuel Ryder. A bout of appendicitis prevented Mitchell
from competing in the inaugural Matches in 1927. But he returned to compete for
Great Britain in 1929, ‘31 and ‘33. After another full day of exhilarating championship
