Class of 2017 Went UP and Away with a 2014 Homecoming Win
by Devon Pierce
Competition
was at it’s finest, after this year’s homecoming theme was
chosen as “Pixar
Movies”.
The seniors
decided on Toy Story, the juniors chose
Finding Nemo, the
sophomores selected
Up and the freshman
picked Monsters Inc.
For two full
weeks, students
worked extremely
hard on their float,
so their class could
come out with a victory. The week
prior to homecoming, a spirit week
was held to get students in the “spirit”
of homecoming.
On Monday, students wore
professional sports
wear, Tuesday college sports apparel
and Wednesday students wore maroon
and white clothing. To finish up
the week, Thursday
students donned RHS
club and sports apparel and Friday was the
big day when students
wore their class color,
team jersey or their
homecoming themed
shirts.
During the
pep rally, all fall
sports did their team
cheer. The band and
color guard blessed
the crowd with an
amazing performance.
The cheerleaders rocked the
floor with an amazing
dance. The football
team really showed
off by performing
their amazing play
against Palmyra. For added excitement, junior Jordan Anderson caught
the football and gave
it to senior Keyonda
Nesmith and asked
her to homecoming. At the end of the
pep rally, all senior
athletes played Musical Legs and it came
down to one male,
Senior Aaron
Hoffman, the leg,
and two female
seniors Alix
Vansciver and
Lyndsay Micucci.
Competition
was at it’s finest
because everyone
knows they will
be Sports Night
captains this year.
In the end, Lyndsay won Musical
Legs. On the day of
homecoming, students were in the
garages putting
on their costumes
and and making
last minute touches to their float.
Homecoming
representatives
were sitting in
their convertibles,
with their banners
by their side.
As students
paraded around
town, showing off
their hard work,
the feeling of
homecoming brought
a special life to the
town. Before the
big game, all classes
performed their skits
for the judges and the
crowd. The freshmen
costumes shocked the
crowd, as Mike and
Sully did the YMCA.
The sophomores
shared a little color
with the crowd by
using bright balloons
that flew out of their
house.
The juniors
helped save Nemo
from Darla, as he
dove in the ocean,
making his way to
homecoming with
Dory. The seniors
got Buzz back to
normal and got to go
to homecoming with
Andy.
It was now
football time and
it was an amazing
game. As the band
played their new
songs and the crowd
cheered louder than
ever, you would have
thought you were at
the Super Bowl.
In the end,
the Rams lost by
three points. But it
was close and exciting for the team to
almost beat Palmyra. A few hours
after the game, it
was time for the
homecoming dance.
Students
and chaperones
were dressed up and
looked amazing.
Food was provided
and a DJ helped
students to dance
the night away. As
the night was ending, the DJ stopped
to announce who
won homecoming.
Class cheers went
on until the winner
was announced. The
Sophomore Class
of 2017 went up,
up and away with
1st place to end the
2014 RHS Homecoming festivities.
by Morgan Winering
The weeks
leading up to homecoming consisted
of many activities,
one being the most
anticipated event,
the announcement of
homecoming court. Homecoming court
consists of six young
women, who have
dedicated their time
to Riverside High
School. The advisors
of every sport and
club chose one stu-
dent to represent their
activity during the
annual homecoming
parade and assembly. During the
assembly, all the
representatives had
a chance to tell their
peers all the activites
they are involved
in and their greatest
contribution to RHS.
During homeroom,
the following day,
students voted for who
they believed should
hold the title of
2014 Homecoming Queen. During
halftime of the
nail-biting football game against
Palmyra, the five
members of the
court and the queen
were crowned. These lovely
ladies consisted of
Allie Jenkins, Paige
Nobles, Sasha
Chang, Alix Vansciver and Lyndsay
Micucci. Leandra Dimiero was
crowned the 2014
RHS Homecoming
Queen. Allie Jenkins
represented Student Council, Paige
Nobles represented
Rampage and Sasha
Chang represented
field hockey. Alix
Vansciver represented the girls’soccer
team and Lyndsay
Micucci represented
the class of 2015. The 2014
RHS Homecoming Queen, Leandra
Dimiero, represented Interact.
When asked how
she felt when they
annnounced her
name as queen,
Leandra said, “ I
was very surprised
and shocked, but
none the less happy!
I hope to make my
mom proud by dedicating it to her.”

Dear Kyleigh,
I am so stressed out! I am always busy and can never find
time to get everything done…
PLEASE HELP.
High school requires a lot of hard work and dedication. It can
also be accompanied by a lot of stress trying to manage sports,
homework, a job, and a social life. Try not to let the stress of
it get to you though! There are resources and people around to
help you and talk to you, if needed. For example, if you play a
sport, do your homework on the bus if you’re on your way to an
away game or do it after practice when you have more time to
concentrate. If you’re worried you can’t juggle all your work and
practices/games, ask for help on how to manage your time better.
Ask your guidance counselor if there is any way you could take
a study hall.
If you don’t understand your homework, go to your teachers and ask for help! Any of them would be more than happy to
help you understand your work better. If you take good notes
and listen to your teacher’s lessons, the homework won’t be as
hard. The more you’re organized and take good notes, the better
it will all turn out. Also, get a classmate’s number from each of
your classes. That way if you have a question they may be able
to help you.
Since we are all getting older, most of us will be getting jobs.
Right when you start a new job, you should go to your boss
and talk to them about your hours, so they don’t get in the way
of your school work. Most bosses understand that we are still
teenagers and have a lot to juggle. During the school year, you
should try to work twice during the week, then work more on the
weekends, holiday breaks, and summer.
Hanging out with your friends gets to be a little difficult
sometimes. If you have classes with your friends, you could start
study groups. Studying with your friends has a few benefits.
For instance, they can help you remember the material in a way
maybe you couldn’t. They also can help you calm down if you
get really stressed out. Another thing you could do with your
friends is join clubs and go and support the sport teams! Take a
deep breath and don’t stress! It will all work out.

Movie Review
by Kacey Stratton
The Giver is a movie based
on the book by Lois Lowry. I highly
recommend reading the book before
seeing this movie.
In the movie, there were
certain details that were altered from
the book that should not have been. For example, Jonas was only
12 years old in the book, but in the
movie, he is 18. I also believe that
they rushed over the most important
part, the memories. There was not
enough time or attention given to the
memories. If you have already read the
book and care about detail, I would
not suggest watching this movie.

150 People
were surveyed asking for their ideas
for the next edition
of the Rampage. After reviewing and removing the mainstream
idea of #Robfromtarget, there were
only ten papers that
didn’t include Robert Butch.
Although
it brought a smile
to my face, I eventually narrowed
down my decision
to one topic: “Why
is Boost so addicting?”
Riverside
just wouldn’t be
“Riverside” without Boost. A dark
syrup containing
corn starch, sugar,
and multiple other
ingredients blended
with water creates a
unique mixture that
the town is known
for.
But why is
it addicting? At the
mere thought of the
question, I began
researching and
gathering information. I came up
with the following
answer. Sugars are
the primary reason
for addiction. You
ask “How can sugar
be addicting?” Well I’ll tell you
why. Sugars are
composed of bonds.
The more bonds a
sugar molecule has,
the more complex
it is for your body.
Simple right? But
let’s get into the
actual science of it.
Sugar, like cocaine,
has the same properties. It affects
the same glands of
pleasure in the brain
creating that good
feeling, but not the
‘high’ that a potent
drug would do to
your body. Your body reacts to this pleasure
both mentally and
physically. Your
body is harmed in
small increments
from the compound.
The pleasure from
the glands in the
brain that the sugar
relaxes overtakes
any realization of
harm. Your body,
after becoming an
avid boost consumer, takes these consumed compounds
and becomes attached. It needs
them to balance out
the chemical aspects
of your brain affect-

Angelo’s pizzeria is a family owned business that
was founded in 1982, right here in Riverside. The owner,
Tony, had experience with other family pizza shops before
opening his own. There are currently four Angelo’s pizzerias in New Jersey. Tony and his two brothers, Pino and
Rich all run them together.
Only being a few blocks from the school, it’s a
good place for seniors and/or teachers to go to on their
lunch breaks. From pizza, salads, wraps, wings, and a
variety of dinners entrees, Angelo’s has a great selection
of foods. All great tasting, and fairly priced, I recommend
going on over to experience it yourself if you haven’t already.
ing your emotions
and such. Cutting
out an addiction
to any drug would
create a change in
emotion, as well
physical discrepancies. This includes
nausea, pale skin,
and other side effects.
Breaking
down this investigation even further
I began to understand the very
nature of sugar.
The more complex
sugars hold more
bonds within the
molecule. The
more bonds in
a molecule, the
harder it is for your
body to break them

polysaccharides or
‘man-made sugars’
they can be found
anywhere in candy,
processed foods,
soda, and especially
in… BOOST! The average
amount of sugar in 8
fl oz (serving size) of
Pepsi contains 25g
of sugar. The recommended serving
size of boost (still 8

sugar. Yeah I know
