A Note from Mr. Ken Chaffin, Principal
Dear Bobcat Family:
It’s hard to believe we are approaching the end of the first nine weeks. Each family will be receiving
information on our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conference dates. We encourage parents to schedule
a conference if you have any questions, concerns or just want information regarding any of your
students’ classes.
A huge “thank you” to all the volunteers, community members, students, parents and Bobcat
Boosters for all the work in hosting a great OX ROAST this year! We appreciate all the support that
this event provides for our school community. I certainly have enjoyed meeting so many of you!
We have so many wonderful things happening in our school community this month:
• Zach Brannan, Chris Eberhart, Noah King and Patrick McHugh have been recognized by
National Merit for their exceptional performance on the PSAT/NMSQT.
• The Grandview Heights City School District has received the highest rating possible of
“Excellent with Distinction”! We were the only Central Ohio district with a Performance
Index Score above 108 and our value added measures indicated that a majority of our
students gained significantly more than a year of academic growth in one year of time.
October 7-11 is Homecoming 2013. Please refer to the Homecoming Section later in the Harbinger
for details. We look forward to celebrating with our alumni, family and friends during this week.
I am truly honored to serve as your principal at GHHS. If there is ever anything I can do to make
your experience at Grandview Heights High School more successful, please contact me directly.
With Bobcat Pride,
PTBB!

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
The Grandview Heights High School Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on October 29, 30, and
November 1. We are again using the Internet-based appointment booking system from Pick-A-Time to
coordinate meeting times. Parents will use the Pick-A-Time website to select which teachers they would like
to meet and when. This is all done through a secure system. Parents will need to know their child’s
Student ID # and birth date in order to schedule conferences with his/her teachers. The Student ID #
can be found on the student’s class schedule, interim report or a grade card.
Parents may go online beginning October 14, 2013 through October 28, 2013 to schedule conferences. Go
to the high school’s website at www.grandviewschools.org/ghhs and click on the link Schedule High School
Conferences under What’s New and Calendar & Events. Each family will receive a letter with important
login instructions.

Career Speaker Series
Grandview Heights High School began its Career Speaker Series on Thursday, Sept. 19th.
The Career Speaker Series offers students an opportunity to learn about various careers
from listening to presentations from local community members. The speakers share
information about their careers so students will have a better understanding of different
aspects of the career. The series will continue with speakers giving presentations the third
Thursday of each month.
Thanks to Michelle Wilson and Jessica Khouzam-Walli from the Grandview Chamber of
Commerce for their help in planning this event. Thanks also to our three speakers from
September. Jason Clayton, the Development Officer with Vital Companies, spoke about
careers in audio and video production. Local author Terry Eisele who is an associate
professor at Columbus State Community College spoke about careers in writing and
education. Dr. Jasmine Craner, a chiropractor from Active Edge Chiropractic, gave a
presentation about careers as a chiropractor and strength and conditioning coach.

Dear Senior Parent, Hello from the 2014 GHHS Yearbook staff! This letter is regarding senior materials for the yearbook. We know the senior year can be pretty hectic, so we wanted to make sure everyone knows what is coming up. We will send out order forms with more specific instructions in early November. This letter is to simply make you aware of certain deadlines and basic information so you can plan ahead. First – Senior pictures - due January 31st. Pictures should be head-‐and-‐shoulders shots and will be printed in color. If you have your pictures taken through a professional photographer, ask them if they are sending the pictures to us or if you need to; not all photographers automatically send pictures in. Also, if you do not plan to have pictures taken, we can accept any good, recent picture of your Senior, in any size up to 8”x10”. Additionally, we can arrange a free portrait session for your senior if needed, please contact Mrs. Kelsey at katherine.kelsey@ghcsd.org Second – Baby pictures - due January 31st. These can be any pictures of your senior before they started school, and will be printed in color. Third – Senior Dedications - due March 30th These are ads placed by parents to congratulate their students on their hard work, to celebrate their achievements, and to wish them well in the future. Dedications can be bought as full pages, for $110, half-‐pages, for $60, and quarter-‐pages for $30. You can design your ad yourself or have our staff design it for you. Senior dedications will be printed in color. Fourth – ordering yearbooks – the Early Bird deadline for ordering yearbooks at the reduced rate of $50.00 is February 28th. The deadline for orders at the regular rate of $55.00 is April 4th. Fifth – name, activity, and quote forms – these are for students to specify their preferred name for next to their senior picture in the yearbook, for students to list their activities and accomplishments during high school, and to list a quote they would like beside their picture in the yearbook. They are due along with senior pictures on January 31st. All materials submitted can be picked up in the high school office after May 16th. Please make sure to write your senior’s name on the back of all pictures submitted. Please address any questions or concerns you may have to the yearbook advisor Mrs. Kelsey, at katherine.kelsey@ghcsd.org Thank you, The 2014 GHHS Yearbook Staff Grandview Heights High School
