OFFENSE LAST TIME VS. WISCONSIN/NDSU The Blue Hens have never faced the Badgers or Bison in women’s basketball history. Delaware has also never taken on this weekend’s host Aztecs in program history. GOING BACK TO CALI The Hens are 4-2 all-time in the Golden State and are making their first appearance in California since Dec. 28-29, 2008 when Delaware defeated Stony Brook (70-43) and Loyola Marymount (66-60) in the Loyola Marymount Holiday Classic. Prior to the 2008 contests, UD picked up two victories over No. 20 Kentucky (86-70) and San Francisco (71-47) at the Odwalla Classic at USF from Nov. 24-25, 2006. Delaware dropped two in its first-ever games in California during the 1996-97 season in losses to UC-Santa Barbara (Nov. 29; 77-60) and UC-Irvine (Nov. 30; 61-45) at the UCSB Tournament. HENS ALL-TIME IN EARLY SEASON NON-CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS The Hens are 46-51 (.469) dating to 1971 in early season tournaments, not including the Preseason WNIT. Delaware is 28-16 (.636), however, in Tina Martin’s 20-year tenure and has won six straight while capturing UCF Thanksgiving Classic, Lehigh Christmas City Classic and Dartmouth Blue Sky Classic titles. Prior to this weekend’s San Diego State Thanksgiving Classic, the Blue Hens had not faced the host school in 15 previous tournaments. CAA RECOGNIZES NICOLE ENABOSI AS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Nicole Enabosi has made quite the impression in her first three collegiate games and the CAA took notice by naming her this week’s Rookie of the Week. Enabosi averaged a double double for the Blue Hens (2-1) with 16.5 points and 11.5 rebounds to go along with 2.0 blocks per game and a .500 (9-18) shooting percentage. She began the week by notching 10 points and a season-high 13 rebounds and three blocks to power UD to a 56-50 victory at Marist Thursday. She followed with a season-best 23 points and 10 rebounds in addition to a game-high four steals and a blocked shot in Sunday’s loss against East Carolina at home. DOUBLE DOUBLES GALORE FOR ENABOSI Nicole Enabosi has opened her collegiate career with three straight double doubles, becoming the first player in program history to do so. KAYLA MILLER RETURNS TO DELAWARE AS DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS Tina Martin announced Nov. 19 that Blue Hens fan favorite Kayla Miller ’12 has returned to the program as the director of basketball operations, effective immediately. In her new role, Miller will be responsible for the oversight of travel arrangements, practice scheduling, team managers and film exchange in addition to assisting with administrative duties. A native of Wilmington, Del. and graduate of Ursuline Academy, Miller returns to her alma mater after spending the past year as the varsity head girl’s basketball coach at St. Mark’s Catholic High School and with the Delaware Valley Lady Shock AAU club. She also worked with Titus Sports Academy, Dynamic Physical Therapy, Archmere Academy, Sanford School and the Wilmington Blue Rocks. On the court, Miller spent three seasons with the Blue Hens after transferring to the University of Delaware from George Washington following her freshman season. During her tenure, the Hens captured back-to-back CAA titles and a NCAA Sweet 16® appearance. She finished her career 14th in program history with 256 assists and ranked 17th nationally during her senior season with a 2.18 assist to turnover ratio. Miller replaces Allison Daly, who was named the athletics travel coordinator at Temple University. BELL RETURNS FROM GRUESOME INJURY Alecia Bell returned to the court for the first time in nearly a year Friday, Nov. 13 to log four points, two rebounds, a steal, a blocked shot and an assist. Bell missed almost the entirety of last season after breaking her left tibia and fibula in the home opener on Nov. 16, 2014. Bell underwent surgery on Nov. 17, 2014 to have a metal rod placed into her leg. BLUE HENS KICK OFF 45TH SEASON OF WOMEN’S BASKETBALL The 2015-16 season marks the 45th overall in the history of the University of Delaware women’s basketball program. During their previous 44 seasons, the Blue Hens have registered a record of 711-464 (.605) with 28 winning years under three head coaches. HENS AT THE BOB CARPENTER CENTER Since starting play at the Bob Carpenter Center in 1992, Delaware is 21-3 all-time in home openers and 212-88 (.707) overall after the 2015 home opening win over Lafayette. CAA PRESEASON HONORS Delaware was predicted to finish fifth in the CAA Preseason Poll, as announced at CAA Basketball Media Day. Additionally, Erika Brown and Courtni Green were picked as Preseason All-CAA Second Team and Honorable Mention selections, respectively. The starting backcourt for the Hens, Brown and Green led the squad with 14.2 points per game apiece last season. Brown added 42 steals and 65 assists with 3.1 rebounds per game in 2015 while Green collected 74 assists and 41 steals with 4.1 rebounds per contest. CHATMAN ELIGIBLE FOR COMPETITION IN 2015-16 Sadé [pronounced SHAH—day] Chatman earned the starting nod for her first season in a Delaware uniform after sitting out the 2014-15 season after transferring to the University of Delaware from Clemson University. Chatman averaged 4.4 points and 2.0 rebounds in 18 games for the Tigers during her freshman campaign. TEAM CAPTAINS Alecia Bell and Hannah Jardine were named team captains on a unanimous squad vote. BLUE HENS ADD JADE SINGLETON TO COACHING STAFF Tina Martin announced July 8 the hiring of Jade Singleton as an assistant coach. Singleton joins the Blue Hens from her alma mater, Duquesne University, where she spent the last two seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations and Administration. In her role at UD, she will primarily work with the team’s post players. A 2008 graduate from Duquesne, she was a team captain and started all 30 games for the Dukes during her senior campaign. Additionally, Singleton finished the season with a team-high 202 rebounds, which was 10th-best in the Atlantic 10. She also shot 44.3 percent from the floor to place 15th in the conference. Singleton replaced Tiara Malcom (Delaware ’05 ’11), who joined the FIU coaching staff as the top assistant coach in June. 2014-15 RECAP The Blue Hens look to bounce back from a 2014-15 year in which the team posted its first losing season since going 7-24 during the 2007-08 campaign. In her 19 seasons as a head coach, last year marked just the fourth losing season under Tina Martin’s tutelage. UD re- BLU EH ENS.COM 2015-16 University of Delaware Women’s Basketball | Delaware vs. Wisconsin | November 27 turns four starters and 11 letterwinners from last season while adding three newcomers and a redshirt transfer for the upcoming year. JUST TWO BLUE HENS LOST TO GRADUATION Delaware lost just two seniors in Joy Caracciolo and Stephanie Leon to graduation last year and will return a core nucleus for the upcoming season. Caracciolo posted 10.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while Leon led the team with 1.0 blocks per contest and added 1.3 points and 3.4 rebounds. A STRING OF EXCELLENCE Despite a down season last year, Delaware has produced a run of success in the past 16 seasons that most teams in the nation would be hard-pressed to match. Since the start of the 1999-2000 season, the Blue Hens have posted 12 20-win seasons (UD won 19 games in 2003-04) and have competed in postseason play 11 times. Delaware has competed in the NCAA Tournament four times (2001, 2007, 2012, 2013), winning the most NCAA games (three) in men’s or women’s history. UD has also earned post-season WNIT berths in 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2011 and 2014. Overall, the Hens have gone 345-158 during the past 16 years, a winning percentage of .686. RADICE A COACHING FIXTURE AT DELAWARE Associate head coach Jeanine Radice is in her 20th season with the Blue Hens, a mark that ties her for ninth nationally in longest tenured assistant coaches. MARY ANN HITCHENS SELECTED FOR NFHCA HALL OF FAME A pioneer in the growth of the University of Delaware women’s athletics program, Mary Ann Hitchens enjoyed great success as a coach and continued to gain notice as a nationally respected administrator. And now Hitchens will be able to add to her long list of accolades as she has been chosen as a 2015 inductee into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame. A native of Milford, Del. and 1967 and 1971 graduated of the University of Delaware, Hitchens posted a record of 196-76-30 during her 16-year (1973-1988) headcoaching career of the Blue Hens field hockey squad. Hitchens also spent seven years as the first-ever head coach of the women’s basketball team and led the Blue Hens to a 71-35 record with six postseason appearances. Her teams never had a losing season and advanced to the EAIAW Regionals each year. Under her guidance, Delaware has recorded 20-win seasons in 12 of the last 16 seasons and made postseason appearances in 11 of the last 15 years, including four in the NCAA and seven in the WNIT. The Hens have placed fourth or better in league play all but five times during Martin’s tenure and have advanced to the league championships semifinals or better 14 times in the last 16 years, including six appearances in the CAA Championship contest. Despite losing one of the most memorable and talented classes in school history, the Blue Hens bounced back from graduating seven seniors and a career total of over 6,500 points, 3,200 rebounds and 1,100 assists in remarkable fashion this past season. Delaware was predicted to have a “down” season after graduating 2013 WNBA Rookie of the Year, Elena Delle Donne, in addition to Danielle Parker, Lauren Carra, Kayla Miller, Trumae Lucas, Jaquetta May and Chelsea Craig, but proved everybody wrong during the 2013-14 slate. One of the most successful coaches in University of Delaware history, Tina Martin is in her 20th season at the helm of the Blue Hen women’s basketball team during the 2014-15 campaign. A native of Williamsport, Pa., Martin was hired May 14, 1996 to replace Joyce Perry, who led the Hens for 18 years. Martin signed a five-year contract extension in 2012 that will keep her at Delaware through the 2016-17 season. During her tenure, Martin has transformed the Blue Hens into perennial championship contenders, first in the America East Conference and currently in the Colonial Athletic Association, which Delaware joined during the 2001-02 campaign. In 19 seasons, Martin has led UD women’s basketball to an overall record of 376-209 (.643) while posting a mark of 222-118 (.653) in regular season league play. Martin is amongst the league leaders with 198 conference (regular season and tournament) victories, the second most for active CAA coaches and third all-time. On Jan. 13, 2013, Martin coached her 500th career game, a 63-46 win at Old Dominion. The returning Blue Hens combined for a total of 1,505 minutes (20.8 percent), 383 points (15.8 percent) and 269 rebounds (7.5 percent) in 2012-13. Fellow CAA schools predicted Delaware would finish fifth in the league while just one player (Akeema Richards) was chosen to the Preseason All-CAA Second Team. This all served as motivation for UD as the Blue Hens returned to the CAA Championship game for the fourth straight season and earned a berth into the WNIT following a year where Delaware went 20-11 overall and 10-6 in the conference. The Blue Hens traveled north for a WNIT First Round contest wherein the eventual tournament champion, Rutgers, edged UD, 65-61. The Hens also continued a school-record 44-game CAA winning streak before falling to James Madison on Jan. 12. The streak dated to the 2010-11 season and was the most in the league since Old Dominion won 95 consecutive contests from 1995 to 2001. In that momentous 2012-13 season, Martin led one of the most illustrious squads in Delaware history as the Hens saw another record-breaking year. UD finished the season with an incredible 32-4 mark, went undefeated in CAA play for the second consecutive year and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in school history. The Hens finished atop the CBI MidMajor Poll for the second straight season while receiving a No. 15 spot in the Associated Press Poll and a No. 16 spot in the USA Today/Coaches Poll. Delaware also recorded a school-record 27 straight victories, besting the team’s streak of 21 consecutive wins during the 2011-12 slate, and good for third nationally behind Baylor and Notre Dame. Dating to the 2010-11 season, Martin has led UD to 37 straight CAA regular season wins, a mark that is good for second nationally behind Baylor and the most in the league since Old Dominion won 95 consecutive contests from 1995 to 2001. Martin guided the Blue Hens to a No. 6 seed in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, where Delaware defeated No. 11 West Virginia, 66-53, before upsetting No. 3 North Carolina, 78-69, at a sold-out Bob Carpenter Center to advance to the Sweet 16. UD was unable to make a comeback against No. 2 Kentucky as the Hens ended their run with a 69-62 loss to the Wildcats in Bridgeport, Conn. Martin was instrumental in the development of the team’s seven sensational seniors that included three 1,000-point career scorers in Lauren Carra, Elena Delle Donne and Danielle Parker, two 1,000 career rebounders (Delle Donne and Parker) and a second-overall WNBA draft pick (Delle Donne). Delle Donne, one of Delaware’s most decorated student-athletes, wrapped up her time with the Blue Hens as a four-time All-American, three-time CAA Player of the Year and atop 11 career record lists and holds countless single season and single game records while Parker finished her career with the most rebounds and games played in Delaware women’s basketball history. During the 2012-13 campaign, Martin’s Blue Hens saw nearly 70,000 fans pass through the turnstiles of the Bob Carpenter Center, an average of over 4,000 per game at the 5,000-seat venue. Delaware sold out “The Bob” five times throughout the year, including hosting a record crowd of 5,098 for a 61-60 win over James Madison on Feb. 24, 2013. In total, nearly 104,000 spectators saw Martin’s squad compete in person during the 2012-13 season. The Hens were also featured nationally various times on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 and the Comcast Sports Network. The 2011-12 Blue Hens collected a record-breaking year with a 31-2 record while going undefeated in CAA play and winning the first postseason game in school history. Delaware set a previous school record for wins in a season including a record 21 straight victories and claimed the first CAA Tournament title in UD history. The Hens earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and posted a 73-42 win over Arkansas Little Rock, the first postseason win by a men’s or women’s basketball team in school history. Delaware ended the year ranked No. 14 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll after climbing as high as No. 7 in early March. Along the way, Martin earned her 300th career victory on Feb. 12 when the Blue Hens defeated Georgia State, 94-56, while recording the most points scored by UD in Martin’s tenure. For her efforts, Martin was named the CAA Coach of the Year for the third time in her career. Martin was a two-time NCAA Division II All-American at Lock Haven (Pa.) University and was a four-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference All-Star and two-time league Player of the Year. She finished as PSAC’s all-time leading scorer with 2,157 points and had her number (33) retired at Lock Haven. Martin began her coaching career at Lock Haven in 1986-87, where she served as an assistant before moving on to Seton Hall as a graduate assistant.
