Creighton won last meeting, 58-56 on Dec. 8, 2014 at Northern Iowa

In the midst of a four-game losing streak, Creighton has lost five or more in
a row just four times in Jim Flanery’s 14 seasons.
The Bluejays have claimed the last nine meetings with the Omaha Mavericks,
dating back to 1982.
Northern Iowa head coach Tanya Warren returns to D.J. Sokol Arena for the
first time since 2013. This will be her first opportunity to view the new banner that bears her name. Warren and Connie Yori are the only two players in
Creighton WBB history to have their numbers retired. The banner displaying
those numbers was revamped last season.

Head Coach Jim Flanery
Entering his 14th season as the
Creighton head coach and his 24th
consecutive year on the Bluejay bench, Jim
Flanery led the Bluejays to back-to-back
NCAA Tournament appearances for the first
time in school history (2012 & 2013), is the
all-time victory leader for Creighton (252
and counting) and led the Bluejays into the
BIG EAST Conference in 2013-14.
Flanery has guided the Bluejays to the
postseason 11 times, recorded eight 20-win
seasons, captured two Missouri Valley
Conference
regular-season
championships (2003 & 2013), an MVC
Tournament Championship (2012) and
brought Creighton to the Missouri Valley
Conference Tournament championship
game four times. In addition, Creighton has
made two appearances in the WNIT Final
Four capturing the 2004 WNIT championship.

and Creighton’s game with Northern Iowa at

Series with Omaha:
Omaha leads the overall series with
Creighton 15-10, but the Bluejays have won
the last nine meetings. The last time the
Mavericks claimed a battle between the two
squads came in 1982. Creighton’s victory in
1983, starting the current stretch, broke a
14-game win streak by Omaha.
The Bluejays are 4-9 on the Maverick’s
home floor.
Scouting Omaha (7-3)
The Mavericks have a nice record, but that
record may be a bit misleading. Omaha
has faced two teams outside of division I,
Waldorf and Midland.
Omaha is coming off a tough loss to SIUE
that saw the Mavericks surrender a 17-point
halftime lead, falling 90-86 in overtime.
Mikaela Shaw is the driving force for the
Mavericks, 18.7 ppg & 7.5 rpg. The next
leading scorer is Remy Davenport with 9.2
ppg.
The Mavericks have yet to suffer a loss at
their new home, Baxter Arena, opening the
season with five straight wins at home.

The Bluejays second season in the BIG
EAST (2014-15) was one of change,
featuring five freshmen on the bench. •
Creighton closed the season with a 17-14
mark and a 10-8 record in conference
action. The Bluejays secured their eighth
consecutive postseason appearance, reaching the WNIT for the second consecutive •
season.
Where to Watch the Bluejays:
Creighton’s contest with Omaha is available
on the Mavericks website for a fee! To watch
the game online go to

Slow down Shaw: Creighton limited
Shaw to eight points and eight rebounds
in its victory last season. Omaha runs
much of its offense through her.
Consistent scoring: The Bluejays tightened up their defensive effort against
South Dakota State, but still had long
stretches of difficulty getting the ball in
the hoop.
Get Lamberty & Faber going: Sophomore
Sydney Lamberty has struggled recently
as did freshman Audrey Faber against
the Jackrabbits. With Janning and
Rollerson sidelined with injuries these
two young Bluejays must fly.

After opening the season with three

The most difficult loss of that run may have

The Battle for HO HO Homaha
The Mavericks call the city of Omaha their
campus, while the Bluejays have owned the
basketball town. Sunday’s contest carries
no trophy, but the victory goes the holiday
cheer.
Owens Owns the Night
Sophomore Jade Owens exploded for a
career-high 14 points, all in the first half,
against South Dakota State on Dec. 12.
It was the second time that Owens has
reached double figures in her career.
Three-Way Coaching Trade
While Creighton, Northern Iowa and Drake
are no longer in the same conference the
three teams have turned one of the best
players in another’s team history into a
member of the coaching staff.
Creighton
assistant
coach
Linda
Sayavongchanh was once a star at Drake.
Drake’s coordinator of basketball operations was an MVC Player of the Year for
Northern Iowa. While the Panther’s head
coach Tanya Warren is one of just two
Bluejays to have her number retired.
Panthers and Bluejays Share Near Miss
Against South Dakota State
The Bluejays and Panthers won’t be in
a sharing mood come Tuesday, but the
two teams have a common enemy as both
squads suffered difficult losses to South
Dakota State recently. Northern Iowa fell
at South Dakota State in double overtime,
89-86, on Dec. 9. Three days later the
Bluejays dropped a 53-51 decision to the
Jackrabbits at home.
McGrory Drops the Mic
MC McGrory made a statement worthy of
dropping the mic (microphone) against Utah
on Dec. 9, scoring 24 points. McGrory’s
efforts opened the game 9-of-9 from the field
and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. After
missing her only field goal of the night, she
canned two more from the charity stripe.
Staggering Numbers for Faber at Nebraska
Audrey Faber is delivering some staggerging
numbers early in her career. The freshman’s
six blocks against Nebraska on Sunday
rank second all-time for most blocks in a
game. Just one behind the school record of
seven, held by Kris Kugel against Northern
Iowa on Dec. 20, 1991.
Long Range Plans
As of 12/18/15
Under Jim Flanery the Bluejays have always
loved the long ball. The 2015-16 has proved
no different as the Bluejays rank in the top10 nationally in three-point FG made and
13th in three-point FG per game.
