As the kids go back to school and the weather cools off it is time to prepare for all the fall events the chamber Amy Richards is hosting this year. We will be resuming our monthly membership meetings in September beginning with a breakfast on Tuesday Sept. 11 at 7:45 at Trinity Christian College in the Ozinga Chapel. There will be a presentation by Marisa Kolman, the Community Development Coordinator for the City of Palos Heights. On Sept. 15 the Village of Palos Park will host their annual Autumn in the Park Festival and Chili Cookoff. This is a fun event for the family that kicks off with a parade down 123rd street at 11am. Throughout the day there are many activities offered for kids as well as chili tasting and a bbq rib contest added this year. I personally attend the event every year and have a great time. On Sept. 26 the Palos Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a networking breakfast at the Village of Palos Park at 7:30am. It is only $5 for members and $10 for non-members and a continental breakfast will be served. Please RSVP to the chamber office. Autumn in the Park Festival Saturday, September 15 The Village of Palos Park presents the Autumn in The Park Festival on Saturday, September 15, 2012. Located at Palos Park Village Green, 8901 West 123rd. Come to the Second Annual Bavarian Fest to Benefit the Crisis Center of South Suburbia Sunday, September 16 Farmers Markets Palos Heights farmer’s market is held every Wednesday through October 10, rain or shine, 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The market is located at 12217 S. Harlem Avenue, Palos Heights. Parking is available in the back. Palos Park farmer’s market, located at Presbyterian Community Church, 12312 S. 88th Avenue in Palos Park. The farmer’s market will run every Friday until October 5. The Crisis Center for South Suburbia will host its second annual Bavarian Fest fundraising dinner on Sunday, September 16, from 3-9 p.m. at Water’s Edge Golf Club; 7205 West 115th Street in Worth. The German-themed event will feature live entertainment, a Germanstyle dinner buffet, domestic and imported beer and wine, raffle, and contests including a bean bag tournament and German spelling bee. Ticket price is $25 per person in advance and includes dinner, two drink tickets, and live entertainment. Tickets at the door are available for $35 per person. The Crisis Center for South Suburbia provides emergency shelter and other services for individuals and families victimized by domestic violence. Multi-Chamber Business After Hours Tuesday, September 18 Multi-chamber Business After Hours, hosted by Franciscan Village (1270 Village Drive, Lemont), will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Palos Area, Lemont, and Homer Glen chambers are in partnership with Franciscan Village. Support the American Heart Association in Their Heart Walk Saturday, September 22 American Heart Association Heart Walk will be held on Saturday September 22nd starting at 8:00 a.m. Location: Moraine Valley Community College, Palos Hills. Non-competitive event offers both 3-mile and 1-mile route options. Participants are invited to enjoy the exciting festival grounds before and after walking. PALOS HEIGHTS PROGRESS visit www.palosareachamber.org “Through Amanda’s Eyes” Mural Unveiling and Dedication Tuesday, September 25, 2012 4:00 p.m. “Through Amanda’s Eyes” mural unveiling and dedication will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at 123rd Street and Harlem Avenue (Northwest Corner Chalet Florist Building). This event is open to the public. For more information, please call Pat Sheppard at 708-480-3003. This mural is being dedicated in memory of Amanda Van Howe, daughter of Jim and Barb Van Howe. Amanda was an aspiring young artist who passed away at the early age of 28. The mural was created by local muralist, Nancy Hammel, and features several pieces of Amanda’s work. The mural was painted by local artists including Amanda’s brother Michael, all of whom donated their time and talents. Many thanks and sincere appreciation are extended to the Edward Jones Financial Advisors who sponsored the mural with their generous donations. IT'S FALL FESTIVAL TIME! 70TH ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL AT THE FARM SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29; 10:00 A.M.–4:00 P.M. This will be a day of country-fair fun for “kids of all ages.” Kids will enjoy games, pumpkin painting, and horse rides. And everyone can join in on scarecrow making, touring the animal barns, enjoying a hayrack ride, and listening to live music by Seitz and Sounds. There will be craft booths and flea market vendors, a farmers market with freshly picked pumpkins, gourds, cornstalks, and more – and the pumpkin patch will be open for those who would like to “pick-theirown.” Freshly-grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and other goodies will be on sale for lunch. Festival admission is $2 for children and $4 for adults. This is always a great day for all ages! Plan to bring the whole family to the Fall Festival.
