News THE BERMUDA SUN may 1, 2013 n 5 Using celebrity power to sell property Fox newsman flies in from the US to help stir interest in stunning $20m Paget home By Don Burgess dburgess@bermudasun.bm A TV personality in a $20 million home on a paradise island — it’s a real estate marketer’s dream. Bermuda Commercial Bank and Rego Sotheby’s International Realty hosted a special event on Friday evening featuring Jonathan Hunt, New York-based chief correspondent for Fox News Channel’s FOX Report. But the real star of the show was Agapanthus, a spectacular home in Paget that’s up for sale — for a mere $19.5 million. A crowd of around 50 people heard Mr Hunt recount his tales of covering news all over the globe, from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the Haiti earthquake to the Royal Wedding. Bermuda Commercial Bank (BCB) and Rego Sotheby’s International Realty have been hosting similar events for the past three years. Asked about the synergy between the two firms, Buddy Rego, owner of Rego Sotheby’s, said BCB services high net worth individuals with extraordinary personal service — “as we do. That’s what separates us from others because we’re working with people in a fashion that hasn’t been done before.” Mr Rego said the event is very relaxed so there is no high-pressure sales presentation. Horst Finkbeiner, director and COO of BCB, said the idea was to combine interesting speakers with luxury homes. He said after the two firms discussed the idea they thought “it could be a great way to show our clients some appreciation. It also provides them with a n Photo by don burgess Star power: Fox News chief correspondent Jonathan Hunt, with his wife Chelsea at Friday’s event. n Photo by don burgess Front entrance: The main house has 11,665 square feet of floor space. ‘Who doesn’t like going to people’s houses and listening to interesting people?’ Buddy Rego Sotheby’s Int. Mr Rego added: “It’s value-added to the friends and clients of BCB and us.” He said it has proved to be a successful formula: “Who doesn’t like going to people’s houses and listening to interesting people?” One of the speakers at a previous event was Johnathan Vaughters, manager of the French cycling team, who cycled against Lance Armstrong. Mr Finkbeiner said the key was “bringing in people with fascinating stories to tell”. He said BCB clients “appreciate it. This is something that is interesting and fun. We’re not trying to be anything more than that.” But did the house sell? Not yet, but we’ll try to keep you posted. n n Photo courtesy of rego realty sea for miles: The pool provides magnificent views of the ocean. Well, Agapanthus is one of Bermuda’s most luxurious properties and it’s not every day such a swanky place goes up for sale. On Friday evening, Agapanthus, located on Inglewood Lane in Paget, was the venue for a gathering of clients from Bermuda Commercial Bank (see story above). The property is available from Rego Sotheby’s International Realty for $19.5 million. Buddy Rego, owner of Rego’s, said what makes the property special is that it is extremely private, is located on the waterfront and very spacious. “There are very few houses in Bermuda that have the accommodations this one has. It is a very professionally, well-run property. There are not very many houses like this in Bermuda.” So what does that $19.5 million buy you? Agapanthus sits on 4.2 acres with access to the water and views of the ocean. The main house boasts 11,665 square feet of floor space and includes four bedroom suites, five full bathrooms, four powder rooms. It has an informal living room that doubles as a movie room with a wet bar. Four bedroom suites, five full bathrooms, four powder rooms. The library has a fireplace and there is a conservatory that can be used for family meals or more intimate eating occasions, as well as a large dining room. There is a two-bedroom staff apartment in the main house that has its own bathroom. There is a pool, of course, and other outdoor facilities include a tennis court and a putting green. For those who like to work out, there is a 577-square-foot gym. A two-bedroom guest cottage adds another 973 square feet of living space to the property. It comes with its own kitchenette and laundry. In addition, there is a 290-square-foot beachhouse that has a kitchenette. And if that wasn’t enough for those who enjoy lots of space, the property boats 2,000 square feet of porches and verandahs. n Interested? Call Rego Sotheby’s International Realty on 292-3921.
