They are very proud of his career advancement but will miss his management style and leadership skills. The Chamber Transportation Committee has similar feelings. Hammit took on the Prescott duties in July 2005, replacing longtime District Engineer Tom Foster, who retired earlier that year. Since then, Hammit has overseen tens of millions of dollars worth of local projects on state highways, including the interim Wickenburg By-Pass and the center turnlane project on south Highway 60. As deputy state engineer, his new position will have Hammit overseeing ADOT’s eight rural districts, including Wickenburg. His continued involvement in rural districts will help to ensure continuity on the projects that currently underway. “Tip of the Stetson” to Dallas! Simple steps, such as watching where you walk, are all that is needed to curb these incidents. “Clean up messes, and keep your jobsite tidy,” says Claudia Baker, loss control manager at SCF Arizona. “Too often people leave empty boxes or extension cords lying around creating a trip hazard for anyone who may not be looking where they are going.” Keeping the workplace clean is an easy way to avoid accidents. To further guard against slips and trips, follow advice given by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration: • Wear appropriate shoes for the job or task, including non-slip shoes • Avoid wearing sandals or open- toe shoes, they do not provide protection • Wipe up spills immediately • Pick up spilled food and any other items from floors as soon as possible • Keep walkways free from clutter Falls from ladders can be fatal or cause permanent disabilities. Many types of ladders are available and each has its own requirements. OSHA’s suggestions for ladder safety include: • Keep ladders free of oil, grease and other slip hazards • Do not load ladders beyond their maximum load or manufacturer’s rated capacity • Use ladders only on stable, level surfaces, unless secured • Do not use ladders on slippery surfaces, unless secured, or they have slip-resistant feet • Secure ladders placed in passageways, doorways or driveways • Use a barricade to keep traffic or activity away from the ladder • Keep areas clear around the top and bottom of ladders • Do not move, shift or extend ladders while in use • Make sure ladder is equipped with nonconductive side rails if working around electrical equipment • Face the ladder when moving up or down • Use at least one hand to grasp the ladder while climbing • Do not carry objects or loads that could cause a loss of balance For more information on avoiding slips, trips and falls, including further ladder safety, contact an SCF Arizona Representative Tod Dennis, Association Coordinator -602-631-2212 (O) -602-4606934 (C) Email:tdennis@scfaz.com Tip of the Stetson to our Chamber Member Advertisers Page 7 TIP OF THE STETSON Rancho de los Caballeros, Super 8 Motel, Town of Wickenburg, Myron Deibel & Tom Watt, Cliff Pollay, APS, Lois & Rollie Allen, Betty Roether, Nadine Champlin, Bashas’, Val Designs, Dean White, Ben Ruoti, Scott Stephens, Carrie Ward, Tom Stout, Kristi Henson, Mickey Brewer, Soroptimist, Robert O’Hearn, The Wickenburg Sun, Jim & Jeannie Bansner, Interwrx, Sun Life Magazine, Wickenburg Rotary Club, The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg Leos, WHS Student Council, Riata Custom Saddle, REXI Experts, Jim Hartman, Brooks Air Conditioning, Adventures of a Lifetime ATV, Double D Western World, Richard Tingley. *Would you like to join the Chamber Volunteer Team of Information Specialists?
