February 2016 - Camas School District
WOLF
School is OPEN on
Friday, February 12
(snow make-up day)
and CLOSED on
Monday, February 15
in honor of President’s
Day.
Wear your silly
socks for Feb.
Spirit Day,
Wednesday,
Feb. 24!
January started out with a snow day and a
late start day right after winter break. As a
result of our snow day we will be using February 12th as our snow make up day.
1. The teacher will review the school closure
form in their red notebook and send students to the address indicated on the emergency school closure form.
With the first threat of snow or ice parents
begin to question whether school will be
dismissed early or if there will be school at
all. Your best resource is to go to the district
website at camas.wednet.edu and click the
emergency info tab for the most up to date
information.
2. There will be no Express or regular Pick-up
during the closure.
Every year we send home the Emergency
School Closure Information to determine
where your child is to go in case of a school
closure. In an emergency school closure situation you will receive an automated notification via your primary phone and an email
notification. In a true emergency, time
would not allow for any changes to a student’s schedule.
Here are the steps we will follow during an
emergency school closure:
3. JWR and Camas Extended Daycare will
not be open for students.
Please discuss with your child where they
will go in an emergency situation. Our top
priority is to keep kids safe at all times.
Snow make-up day: Friday, February 12th
No School: Monday, February 15th
(Presidents’ Day)
If you ever have any ques!ons or concerns,
feel free to call me 833-5860 ext. 78221 or
email me at:

Make every day count!

Meet Mrs. Hartman
A jungle is an obstacle course that is set up in the
gym using old gymnas!cs equipment. Kids got to
swing on a rope, bounce, balance, ride, and jump
on the equipment with jungle stuffed animals all
around. All classes had the experience of the jungle twice. It was a kind of gymnas!c experience. Thank you Ms.O!
By Kirill and Nate
Did you donate for the first Woodburn Pet Drive? Well this is an ar!cle all about it. The
Woodburn Pet Drive was created by Parker in Mrs. Cameron's fourth grade class. Parker
and his friend Xander made poster and news clips for Wolf Pack News. The Woodburn Pet
Drive was a fundraiser for needy dogs and cats. The humane society received almost 400
pounds of cat and dog food and over 50 toys, treats and supply items from our dona!ons.
The drive started February 1st and ended on February 5th. Parker believes that dogs and
cats should be treated just like humans. Dogs and cats deserve to have food just like humans. Your dona!ons helped make the lives of needy cats and dogs happier. Thank you for
your dona!ons.

Mrs. Hartman is a 3rd grade teacher at Woodburn. She has been
teaching for 3 years. She went to school at Crestline Elementary
in Vancouver Washington. The thing she likes most about working at Woodburn is she loves the students. In her spare !me she
likes to play soccer, read books, walk her dogs and go to the
movies. She also has a large family.
Thank you for giving your all to Woodburn, Mrs. Hartman!!!
~Reported by: Anna, Ellie and Marielle
We interviewed Ms. Lori for being honored as the January Leading the Pack Staff
member. Ms. Lori went to grade school at Lake Shore Elementary in Vancouver,
Washington. Ms. Lori has been suppor!ng schools for 14 years as a recess teacher.
The thing that Ms. Lori likes most about working at Woodburn are
the kids. Ms. Lori likes to go on walks or cooking in her spare
!me. One thing that makes Ms. Lori happy is sunshine.
Ms. Lori’s favorite color is teal.
Congratula!ons and thank you, Ms. Lori.

For Valen!ne's Day a group of Home Depot workers came into the fourth grade classrooms to do a
special project. All the
fourth grade classrooms
got to make Valen!ne
mailboxes! The workers
gave everyone kits to
make them. First we,
painted the flags. And
then we nailed everything
together with hammers.
A*er everyone was done
with that we painted the whole mailbox. We had to
wait for that to dry and then the Home Depot
workers came back to screw on the li$le flags we
painted.
Now that we are finished we get to use
them for our Valen!ne’s party!
We all had tons of fun making these,
“Thank you Home Depot workers! :)

*SPEED LIMIT IS 5 MPH*
Please stay in your car. Do not get out of your vehicle to assist your children in exi!ng the vehicle. They should EXIT FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE
for their safety.
If you have business to take care of in the office/school, kindly park in the
parking lot and come inside.
Thank you for your help in keeping our wolf pack safe.
Your pa!ence is appreciated and is a great model for your children as you
enter and leave the parking lot.
Woodburn students focused on cardio-respiratory endurance while improving jump rope and cooperation
skills. 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students did their second round of fitness testing and many students met a personal goal. We had a fantastic January assembly in which we had a school aged jump rope team from
Tigard, Oregon perform for us. Woodburn students were inspired by the jump rope skills and
perseverance of these young performers.
Many students joined a community service project to raise money for the American Heart
Association through our Jump Rope for Heart event. Our students raised $7,706.83! We all
are so proud of our kids’ hard work. Our “thank you gifts” for
student fundraisers should arrive by the end of February at
which time Ms. Olivas will hand them out.
Thank you to all the volunteers that helped make our Woodburn Jungle a
success! A much anticipated week long activity, the Jungle is an obstacle
course that provides students an opportunity to practice tumbling skills, muscular endurance and agility.

The Adventures of a South Pole Pig (paperback)
Ages 9 and Up
$6.06
Flora the pig was born for adventure: "If it's unexplored and needs to get dug
up, call me. I'm your pig," she says. The day Flora spots a team of sled dogs
is the day she sets her heart on becoming a sled pig. Before she knows it,
she's on board a ship to Antarctica for the most exhilarating—and
dangerous—adventure of her life. This poignant novel of a purposeful pig is
sure to become a favorite with any young readers who have ever dreamed of
exploring the great beyond.
The Pup Who Cried Wolf (paperback)
Ages 7 and Up
Lobo is a tiny Chihuahua with a big dream—to join a wolf pack. When Lobo's
owner takes her pets on vacation to Yellowstone National Park, Lobo thinks
he'll finally have the opportunity to find his wolf-brothers. But he doesn't count
on a strict park rule that will keep him on a leash! With the help of his
endearingly quirky family—a smart Spanish-speaking parrot named Glory and
a wisecracking white rat named Heckles—Lobo finally slips his leash and gets
a chance to run with the wolves. But is the wild really where a feisty little fivepound pup belongs?
