ABOUT IMPORTS@UCSD
Imports@UCSD was founded in the spring of 2006 by 10 students
at the University of California at San Diego with the purpose of
building a community for car enthusiasts to gather and share
their collective knowledge about automobiles and motor
sports. Imports@UCSD also aims to provide an open, friendly
environment for members of varying levels of automotive
knowledge with a vast range of interest in cars.
In its ten years of existence, Imports
@UCSD had expanded from its
original 10 members to more than 900
and counting. It is the only automotive
club on the UCSD campus to service
the entire student population,
31,502 strong. As Imports@ UCSD
continues to grow, it is gaining
momentum and is being recognized
as a prominent addition to the
Southern Californian automotive
community.
Our objectives include developing an
educated group of auto enthusiasts
knowledgeable in various aspects of the
industry, constructing a network to foster
strong connections in the automotive
community, and creating a safe
environment where members can test and
improve the performance of their cars as
well as their driving skills. Imports@UCSD
holds safety at a high standard and
therefore advocates against illegal street
racing. To do so, the club provides many
opportunities for members to attend
organized, sanctioned automotive events
to satisfy their high-performance driving
needs. Utilizing connections within the
community and other resources,
members of Imports@UCSD can become
educated auto enthusiasts with strong
standards for safety.
UNIVERSITY IMPORTS
The expansion of Imports has driven us to take our club to the next level. In order to
continue the growth of our chapters, we have decided to integrate our University of
California at San Diego, University of California at Irvine, and California State
University at Northridge chapters to create the collective organization,
University Imports. The collaboration between the schools will open contacts and
networking opportunities throughout the Southern California region.
The most prominent aspect of the collective
University Imports union is the joint online
community which has allowed members to
communicate through Facebook quickly and
efficiently with Imports members from other
universities. Since the implementation of the
collaborative, the sharing of automotive
knowledge, publicity for events,
advertisement for sales, and other information
have been widely disseminated. The Facebook
group is an excellent way to connect all
University Imports members with each
other as well as with other facets of the
automotive community.
EVENTS
Imports Faceoff
Imports@UCSD organizes its annual winter car show at the hub
of the UCSD campus. The grand display is accessible to the entire
student and staff population of over 40,000 people, and quite
frankly, is impossible to miss.
Import Faceoff is undoubtedly the single largest
event of the year where members of
Imports@UCSD and sponsors from the San
Diego area flood UCSD’s Library Walk with their
cars, vendor booths, food, dance
performances, amplified music, and spectators.
Each year, car show applicants are judged within
the categories of “Best ICE,” “Best Domestic,”
“Best JDM,” “Best European,” and “Best in Show.”
Prizes for each category are donated by
vendors who participate in Imports Faceoff.
In past shows, Imports@UCSD has
collaborated with various university
organizations as well as local businesses such as
Group 5, Vertex, Panda Garage, Pann Auto, and
K1 Speed Circuit. This event is a celebration of
the local automotive community and a great
opportunity for both members and vendors to
gain exposure.
EVENTS
Annual Track Day
Joining with other Imports Chapters such as
the University of California Irvine and
California State University Northridge along
with track coordinators such as Speed Trials
USA, Speed Ventures and Redline Track
Events, University Imports brings members
to various race tracks in the Southern
California Region to satisfy their high
performance driving needs.
Members who are willing to track their cars are highly encouraged by our board
members to do so. By going to the track Imports shows its members firsthand that racing in
sanctioned environments can be just as exciting if not more intense and rewarding than
street racing. In these controlled environments members learn to push themselves as
well as their vehicles with trained professional instructors guiding them. Track days offer
things for both beginning drivers as well as intermediate and advanced. Beginning with
proper racing etiquette, knowledge of track flags and basic car control members can continue
on to racing lines, braking points, passing lines and on to more advanced techniques as rev
matching, heel-toe, left foot braking and trail braking.
SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Imports@UCSD is always looking for new San Diego and
Southern California based sponsorships to aid in the
development of our club. To interested sponsors,
Imports@UCSD offers sundry opportunities for advertisement
and exposure to potential clientele. We are the only club of auto
enthusiasts on campus that caters to the entire student
population of UCSD, consisting of 31,502 students.
Potential sponsors will be able to access this pool via affiliation
with Imports@UCSD. We will promote your business on our
promotional flyers that are frequently distributed on
campus to advertise club meetings and events. Additionally,
you will have a reserved space for an advertising booth at
the heart of UCSD’s campus for Imports@UCSD’s annual car
show, Imports Faceoff. Furthermore, you will have access to
advertise your business name and logo on the Imports@UCSD
online community, home to more than 900 registered
members. To foster this relationship, in return we ask that
sponsors provide merchandise and services at a discounted
price for general members. Of potential sponsors, we also
request a continued relationship in support of
Imports@UCSD events such as the annual car show.
Imports@UCSD is a rapidly-growing club with huge potential
and recognizes the importance of collaborating with local
businesses to further our involvement in the automotive
community.
Vendor Sponsor
Primary sponsors will benefit in that University Imports will agree to market
them as an official sponsor of University Imports for one academic year as
outlined in the Vendor Sponsorship Contract.
Monetary Sponsor
Monetary sponsors will benefit by having their logo on advertising items
towards the event of sponsorship/item. All donations are tax
deductible.
