Drive to the Negev Desert to visit Tel Beersheba, descend the water channel, visit Tel Arad, travel by camel, and then continue to hotel on the shore of the Dead Sea. Time to float in the Dead Sea, use the Spa, and relax in the pools around the hotel. Dinner/Overnight at Leonardo Dead Sea Hotel. B/D June 8, Sat. - Romans, Tax Collectors, and Zealots. Visit Masada (King Herod’s fortress and Jewish stronghold against the Romans), the ruins at Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Travel north and take a walk through the ruins at Beit Shean/Scythopolis, a well preserved Decapolis city. Dinner/Overnight Kibbutz Ein Gev on the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee. B/D June 9, Sun. - Nazareth. Continue to Nazareth and visit the Church of Annunciation and first century archaeological excavations. Then on to Sepphoris to explore the ruins. View Tel Cana and discuss Jesus’ early ministry. Stop by Yardenit which is the Jordan River Baptismal site to remember Jesus’ baptism by John. Dinner/Overnight Kibbutz Ein Gev. B/D June 10, Mon. - Jesus Ministry Around the Sea of Galilee. Travel to the shore town of Capernaum with its first century synagogue, Peter’s house, and where Jesus called his disciples to be fishers of men. In Tabgha, visit the Church of the Multiplication remembering the feeding of the 5,000. Then on to the ruins of Bethsaida, and Chorazin. You’ll stand on the Mount of Beatitudes where Jesus gave his most famous sermon. Visit the Chapel of the Primacy where three times Peter professes his devotion to the risen Christ. At lunch we will provide St. Peter’s Fish, then take a relaxing boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. Dinner/Overnight Kibbutz Ein Gev. B/L/D June 11, Tues. Jesus and the Decapolis Cities. View the ruins of Hammat Gader Hot Springs. We will view Jordan’s shared border. Walk the streets of the Decapolis city of Hippos, (possible setting of the Gergasene Demoniac). Lunch and then take a stroll downtown Tiberias and enjoy the many restaurants on the waterfront. Stop in Kursi and see an excavation of an ancient city and synagogue and which is the possible site of the swine drowning in the sea. Dinner/Overnight Kibbutz Ein Gev. Today we drive to the Golan Heights. View Gamla, a Zealot stronghold. Stop to view Quneitra and the border between Israel and Syria. We will talk about the road to Damascus where Saul experienced his call to follow Christ. Also we will have a view of the Southern Lebanon border. Visit Caesarea Philippi /Banias (a Greek and Roman cultic site and place of Peter’s “Great Confession.” Take an easy walk at Tel Dan along one of the sources of the Jordan River. Dinner/Overnight Kibbutz Ein Gev. B/D June 13, Thurs. - Megiddo, Mt. Carmel, Caesarea Maritima. We will view Mount Tabor, the Hill of Moreh, Nain and then on to the Megiddo excavations in the Valley of “Armageddon.” View Mt. Carmel (site of Elijah’s contest with the priests of Baal). We will visit Caesarea Maritima, (built by King Herod the Great and port to which Paul returned from his missionary journeys). Tour Bethlehem Basilica of the Nativity, allowing time to shop in a local shop for olive wood carvings and other “treasures” from local Christian artisans. View the Herodion, the palace and fortress built by King Herod the Great for his final burial place. Dinner/Overnight at Grand Court Hotel in Jerusalem. B/D June 14, Fri. - Jewish Inquiries and the Last Supper. Visit the Peter in Gallicantu Church (traditional house of Caiaphas), Zion Gate, Church of the Dormitian (the Virgin Mary) and the Upper Room (Last Supper). Conclude at the Garden Tomb for communion. Dinner/Overnight at Grand Court Hotel in Jerusalem. B/D June 15, Sat. - Mount of Olives and Christian Quarter. Stand on top of Mt. of Olives and view the city as Jesus did. Walk the Palm Sunday route, visiting the Church of Dominus Flevit (where our Lord Wept). Wander around the olive trees in the Garden of Gethsemane's “Church of All Nations”, remembering Jesus praying in the garden. Enter the old city through St. Stephen’s Gate to the Bethesda Pools, and Antonia Fortress, and sing at St. Anne’s Crusader Church. You’ll walk along the Via Dolorosa, noting the Stations of the Cross and experiencing the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and interpreting the ruins underneath. A visit to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum and the Menorah at the Knesset building. Continue to the Israel Museum and the Shrine of the Book (home of the Dead Sea Scrolls) and the Holy Land Model of Jerusalem. Take the remainder of the day for shopping. His teaching skills and techniques astound and inspire. He is the Founder and Director of the Explorations in Antiquity Center near LaGrange, Georgia, and is the founder of the Biblical Resources Study Center, Jerusalem, Israel. In addition, Dr. Fleming was founder of the World of the Bible Archaeological Museum and Pilgrim Center at Ein Karem, Jerusalem; he is on the Advisory Board of Biblical Archaeology Review; and he has been Professor and Lecturer at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. For over 25 years he has taught Jewish and Arab tour guides about Christianity and important sites of the Old and New Testament and byzantine periods of history for the Israeli Ministry of Tourism. Hannaniah (Oliver) Pinto has lived in Jerusalem Israel since 1983. He is an Israeli tour guide licensed in four languages. His teaching is focused on archaeology and the Jewish background of the Bible. He will help you to understand the remains of biblical towns, connecting them to stories in the Bible in a new and exciting way. His recently published book: “Jesus’ Last Night with His Disciples, a Study of the First Century Historical and Archaeological Setting of the Last Supper. He is program director at Explorations In Antiquity Center. He also co-leads tours to Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Greece and Italy.
