Founding Fifty Grows With Two New Members
The Warrensburg Schools Foundation is very
pleased that the Founding Fifty has grown
by two memberships since the beginning of
2013. The Cliff and Leah Harris family and the
Judith H. McClure memorial have become
the latest additions to the Founding Fifty
campaign that is ensuring the future of the
foundation.
Cliff and Leah Harris Family
Cliff and Leah
Harris
have
very
deep
roots in the
Warrensburg
communit y.
Both
are
Warrensburg
High
School
Alumni and they
each have two
sisters that
Evan, Leah and Cliff Harris at
graduated from Academic Excellence Banquet
Warrensburg
High School. Cliff has two adult children that
graduated from Warrensburg and he and
Leah have a child currently in the district.
They have three grandchildren with one
more on the way.
“We wanted to become Founding Fifty
members because we believe education is
very important. A strong school makes for a
strong community,” said Cliff.
Cliff and Leah are the owners and operators
of Cliff Harris Warrensburg Ford and
Warrensburg Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.
Judith H. McClure
Contributions made through the Judith
H. McClure memorial helped establish a
Founding Fifty membership
in Judith’s honor after her
passing February 14, 2013.
A longtime resident of
Warrensburg, Judy worked
in the Warrensburg R-VI
School District for 26 years
as a special education
teacher, early childhood
teacher and elementary
counselor.
Judith’s
husband, Arthur, who Judith H. McClure
preceded her in death in
1998, was chair of the Department of History
and Anthropology and university archivist at
the University of Central Missouri for 26 years.
All four of their children, Allison McClure
Cheesebrough, Arthur Kyle McClure, Amy
McClure Swearingen and Steven Anderson
McClure graduated from the Warrensburg
School District.
“Our mother chose to gift the Warrensburg
Foundation prior to her death so that she
could honor past co-workers and students
while continuing to impact future staff and
students in the district. Our family wishes
to continue this support after her passing in
hopes of encouraging others to honor mom’s
memory by also donating to the foundation,”
said her daughter, Amy.
The Founding Fifty is designed to build the
endowment of the Warrensburg Schools
Foundation to $500,000 to ensure the
Foundation’s longevity.
For more information on how you can
become a Founding Fifty member, please
contact Meridith Sauer at 660.747.7823.

Foundation to Raise $75,000 For
Playground Equipment
Remember back to when you were sitting in a wooden desk,
the smell of Elmer’s Glue and pencil shavings in the air, trying
so hard to concentrate on what your teacher was saying but
your mind and eyes kept wandering to the window where
you could see the green grass and sunshine? You watched
the clock counting down the minutes until your class could
go to recess; five minutes seemed like an hour. Finally, your
teacher allowed your class to line up to leave the building and
you worked with all your might to quietly walk through the
halls. The door to the playground opened and the sunlight
was so bright you squinted but you didn’t care because
you were too busy filling your lungs with the crisp air. Joy
radiated through your body as you and all of your class mates
ran, arms waving through the air to the swing sets, slides and
monkey bars.
This fall over 430 students will enjoy that same euphoric
feeling at Ridge View Elementary and the Warrensburg
Schools Foundation is focusing on raising $75,000 towards
the safety improvement of their playground equipment. The
playground equipment at Ridge View Elementary is the last
of the four elementary schools to be updated.
We are asking our Foundation Friends, Alumni and Supporters
to consider becoming a Partner In Progress by helping us
raise the $75,000 for the safety updates. If you are interested
in becoming a Partner in Progress please contact Meridith
Sauer at 660.747.7823 or msauer@warrensburgr6.org.

Annual Memberships (‘12-’13)
2001 Matt Lotspeich
1971 Cindy Gable
On June 9, 2013 the Warrensburg Schools
Foundation hosted the 25th Annual
Academic Excellence Awards Banquet. Over
150 Warrensburg High School students were
recognized for reaching the top 15% of their
graduating class. Twenty-three seniors were
recognized for reaching and maintaining this
level all four years of high school. All students
received a medallion, designed especially for
this event. During the banquet the students
heard an inspiring speech from WHS Alumnus
Dr. Kendy Hess. Dr. Hess, a Harvard graduate
and assistant professor at the College of
the Holy Cross, shared a challenge to the
students to not only continue their current
work habits in regards to their education,
but to expect and look for the “sparks that
connect their education to the real world”;
thereby enlarging and enriching the world
around them. She assured the students by
expecting the “sparks” they would receive
much more from their education than just
knowledge and a good job, but a more
enhanced and meaningful life. The inspiring
message received a standing ovation.
In addition, the attendees celebrated
the 25th Anniversary of the Academic
Excellence Awards Banquet by recognizing
the original planners: Senator David Pearce,
Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce
Director in 1988; Mr. Marion Woods, 1988
Chamber President and emcee of the event
for 24 out of 25 years; Mrs. Marie Robison,
1988 education committee member; Mr.
Ivan Oestreich, 1988 education committee
member; State Senator David Doctorian, first
guest speaker; and Rev. Dr. Alex Wales, has
given the invocation for 24 out of 25 years.
All attendees received a commemorative gift
provided by the UCM University Store, the
Anniversary Sponsor for the evening.
The Warrensburg Schools Foundation
wishes to thank the community
sponsors that helped make this event
possible, especially the Warrensburg
Chamber of Commerce which provided
the student medallions.

2013 Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament Raises
Almost $7,000 for Ridge View Playground Upgrades
The Warrensburg Schools Foundation Alumni
& Friends 2nd Annual Golf Tournament was
held April 20, 2013. Over 70 golfers and 30
sponsors raised nearly $7,000 for the Partners
in Progress campaign to improve the equipment
and safety of the Ridge View playground. The
campaign received kick-off donations from
JE Dunn Construction Company and the
Dorothy Stockton Memorial totaling $3,000.
Mrs. Dorothy Stockton served as the Ridge
View principal for 12 years. The Warrensburg
Schools Foundation has committed to raise
$75,000 to supplement Warrensburg R-VI
School District funding for the project. The
Ridge View playground is the final R-VI District
playground to receive the updates. For more
information regarding the Partners in Progress
campaign or other Warrensburg Schools
Foundation activities, please contact Meridith
Sauer at 660.747-7823.
Alumnus Scott Solomon of Ameriprise Financial
sponsored the event, with Quarry City Savings
and Loan providing the Flight Prizes for the
tournament. Johnson County Title Company
provided the raffle items including an at-home
golf simulator and Garmin GPS watch.
