JV/FRESHMEN CHEER
HAPPY CHEERS
OPEN UP THE CURTAINS
Amanda Fowler, 10, along with other JV
cheerleaders, perform their section of the
cheerleaders’ routine, at the senior pep rally.
Their part symbolized curtains opening in
front of the senior cheerleaders to show off
their dance. “It was nice getting to dance with
them knowing they will be gone next year. It
isn’t something we normally do,” Fowler said.

STERLING GREBACK
ANOTHER PART OF THE GAME
Bailey North, 10, hits a high-v motion in an
extended stunt as Haley Allen, 10, Avery
Garber, 10, Cheyanne Burns, 9, and Amanda
Fowler, 10, base her from underneath. “The most
thrilling part of being in the air is trusting your
teammates to keep you up,” North said. “The risk
flyers take going up creates such a thrill.”
PUMP UP THE SPIRIT
Hitting a right punch in the front of the
school, Avery Garber, 10, cheers on the
cross country athletes as they leave for the state
meet in Austin. The JV and varsity cheerleaders
performed at this event. “The send off was very
moving and fun,” Garber said. “I like that it wasn’t
as long as cheering at a game and more people
were involved.”
Pretending to read a map for the
cheerleaders’ skit at the senior pep rally,
freshmen Aubrea Mills, Haggadiah Bomar and
Madelynn Crafton, act lost on their first day
of school to symbolize the typical high school
freshman.
Performing the ‘pump it up’ cheer, the JV
cheerleaders circle up around each other to add
onto the excitement of the JV football game
against Red Oak. “I like that it’s something
we can look forward to during games,” JV
cheerleader Callie Hutchison, 10, said, “I like
being in a circle with the team and laughing at
each other pumping up the crowd.” This cheer
is done to get the crowd moving in order to get
the team excited.

Aisha DeBurr, 10, Amy Gallas, 9, Aubrea
Mills, 9, and Haley Allen, 10, hold up a high
clap for the ‘s’ in their ‘s-h-o-o-t’ cheer at a JV
boys basketball game against Red Oak. “I like
cheering for basketball because we’re closer to
the game and players and can really interact the
game itself” Allen said.

As she cheers at a JV basketball game, Amy
Gallas, 9, builds up the team’s spirit with
the t-motion in the defense cheer ‘t-o-u-g-h‘.
“Cheering for high school is very different from
middle school,” Gallas said. “We are much closer
as a team and have a whole other team to look
up to as role models.”

According to the team, cheerleading isn’t just
spelling words and counting to eight. There
is more to it. There are motions that must be
placed in the correct place, look the correct
way, and hit on the correct word or count. A
right punch motion is when the right arm
is straight up by your temple with your fist
pointed up. A high-v motion is when both
arms are up and out as to make the letter
‘v’ wit your fists pointed out. There are also
two different claps. There is the clasp where
your hands make a ball, and there is the clap
where both hands are flat.
