The Epiphany of the Lord
January 3, 2016
Lord Jesus Christ,
you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father,
and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him.
Show us your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money;
the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things;
made Peter weep after his betrayal,
and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman:
“If you knew the gift of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible Father,
of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy:
let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified.
You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness
in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error:
let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing,
so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord,
and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor,
proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed,
and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy,
you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
Amen.

THE YEAR OF MERCY PILGRIMAGE CHURCH OPEN HOUSE
On December 12, our Diocese began the Celebration of the Holy Year of Mercy. At the request of the Holy
Father, Catholics around the world will be celebrating a special time of recognition of the Great Mercy of God.
A Holy Year features special celebrations of pilgrimages with calls for conversion and repentance. In our
Diocese, nine Churches have been designated as Pilgrimage sites. Immaculate Conception Church in Elmhurst
is the Pilgrimage Church for the Eastern DuPage Deanery. In recognition of the start of this Holy Year, an
Open House for all in our Deanery will be held on the Feast of the Epiphany, January 3, from 2 – 4:00 pm at
Immaculate Conception Church, 132 Arthur St., Elmhurst. Like the Wise Men who went forth to view the
Lord, you are invited as pilgrims to come and pray before the Lord. This will be a time for silent prayer as we
recall the Great Mercy of God.
The Epiphany of the Lord
January 3, 2016
Dear Friends in Christ,
May the New Year 2016 be a time for all of us of stronger Faith, greater Love and
more Hope. May the Holy Year of Mercy fill you with Christ’s blessings. As the
Christmas season, continues today we celebrate the glorious feast of the
Epiphany. We hear in the scriptures how the three travelers from the east
followed a star and found the Lord. How blest are we because we know that we
have the Lord with us. Throughout 2016, I encourage you to continue each day to
follow in His steps. We trust that the Lord will guide our lives so that we might
spend them doing His will.
Christmas is not over and it does not end today. The season lasts through next
weekend when we will celebrate the Baptism of the Lord. Enjoy the beauty of
your decorations. Why not leave your crib scene up until February 2, the feast of
the Presentation. All through Europe this custom is followed. The presence of
the manger is a constant reminder of the presence of Christ with us.
Because our Church has been designated as one of the nine Pilgrimage sites in our diocese; we are hosting an Open
House today from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. We have invited the people from the 16 other parishes in our Deanery to stop by
and spend some quiet time in prayer. Please join us.
Today I am again sharing with you the “Epiphany Proclamation”. Before calendars were put on paper it was the
custom of the Church on the feast day to announce significate dates.
In the Love of Christ,
THE PROCLAMATION OF EPIPHANY
Dear brothers and sisters, the glory of the Lord has shone upon us, and shall ever be manifest among us, until the
day of His return. Through the rhythms of times and seasons let us celebrate the mysteries of salvation.
Let us recall the year’s culmination, the Easter Triduum of the Lord: His last supper, His crucifixion, His burial,
and His rising celebrated between the evening of the twenty-fourth of March and the evening of the twenty-seventh
of March.
Each Easter – as on each Sunday – the Holy Church makes present the great and saving deed by which Christ has
for ever conquered sin and death.
From Easter are reckoned all the days we keep holy. Ash Wednesday, the beginning of lent, will occur on the tenth
of February .
The Ascension of the Lord will be commemorated on the eighth of May.
Pentecost, the joyful conclusion of the season of Easter, will be celebrated on the fifteenth of May. And this year the
First Sunday of Advent will be on the twenty-seventh of November.
Likewise the pilgrim of Church proclaims the Passover of Christ in the feasts of the Holy Mother of God, in the
feasts of the Apostles and Saints, and in the commemoration of the faithful departed.
To Jesus Christ, who was, who is, and who is to come, Lord of time and history be endless praise, for ever and ever.
Amen.

The experience of grief is different for everyone. There are, however, common
denominators for all of us. Beginning on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 and
continuing for six Wednesdays, Immaculate Conception will offer a bereavement
support group for anyone mourning the loss of a loved one. Sessions will begin
promptly at 7:00 PM in the PAC/Rectory. If you would like to share, understand and
process your grief, please join us. Please call Pam at 530-3497 to reserve a space. All
are welcome!

Happy New Year!!!!
If turning the page on the month and the year seems overwhelming because you missed someone at
your Christmas celebration, or perhaps you really didn't feel part of the celebration, read on. Please
join us as we gather to share ideas for our future without a loved one. We will be meeting on the
first Tuesday of every month to share hospitality, prayer, memories and new practical
resolutions. Come on Tuesday morning, January 5 at 10:00 a.m. in the PAC (Rectory). We are an
informal, drop-in group so no need to even plan ahead. Just come!

Jessica Schuessler is a young Christian mom with four children who is on fire to stop the tragedy of abortion. She goes to Planned
Parenthood-Aurora most weeks to pray and plead with men and women not to have an abortion. In March 2015, she began sending
the book Deliver Us from Abortion: Awakening the Church to End the Killing of America’s Children by Brian Fisher to local
pastors and priests. Currently, 675 pastors/priests have received the book (covering all churches in Kane County and almost all
of Dupage County). Jessica will talk about how she found forgiveness from her own abortion when she was 14 yrs old, how she is
reaching out to others and answer questions from attendees. Snacks and refreshments will be served. All are invited. Bring the
entire family. Please contact Mary Kay at mklivorsi@comcast.net with any questions or call (630) 279-5825.
