PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION TO A
SHRINERS BURN HOSPITAL
Admission to a Shriners Burn Hospital is essentially
the same as to a Shriners Hospital for Children. Here,
however, it must be stressed that timing may be of
utmost importance. The final outcome of a burn case
may be greatly dependent upon the type of treatment
and the speed with which it can be started. Therefore
in emergency, the Chief Surgeon has the authority to
admit the patient, having the application completed
at a later date. If then you know of an emergency
burn case, immediately call the Shine Ambassador in
the area. Let’s not miss a chance to put out a helping
hand. Be a true Shriner!

unique, educational, and fun Ladies Party on June 18th.
I encourage all the ladies to attend and enjoy this very

of recognizing her 14-plus years of service to Mizpah.

Personally, I am looking forward to a wonderful parade
season for Mizpah. What a great way to get us in front
of our communities. Hopefully we can take advantage
of these events as recruiting tools.
At our last Stated Meeting the decision was made not
to participate in the 3 Rivers Parade. Consequently,
we are working with Whitley County to participate in
the Old Settlers Parade on June 27th, with an oasis at
our horse grounds. This will keep us on course for one
parade each month this summer. Watch for further
details.

It's hard to believe we're halfway thru the year.
Our first parade was held in Shipshewana, what a great

It's time to start thinking about our New Leadership for
2016. The Leadership search committee will be getting
started looking for new leaders for Mizpah. Just a few
thoughts from an old Recorder.
Influence is what leaders do. They motivate to
achieve the desired results.
Outcome is why leaders are chosen for a particular
position or responsibility. Results must be achieved.
If most of the Nobility are acting one way, either well
or poorly, it is a direct result of our Leadership.
Leaders: Look in the mirror for the problem and the
solution. Remember people want to succeed and

God directs our paths in life, the places we will go, the many

Horse Patrol
Most news is history as our May report got missed, so
the quick catch up, Good Friday trail ride all stayed in
the saddle for a great start of the season and rode close
to a pair of "Stained Sandhill Cranes in the middle of a
tilled field. The Stained comes from a habit of preening
with soil on their bills to their back and breast, thus
turning their usual grey a rusty color from the ferrous
solution in the mud. It was the first time any of us seen
any like that. May trail ride is planned at the Ranch to
keep us tuned up for Captain John V as drill season is
upon us. Capt. John did us a good job at our first parade
in Shippsy for the great turn out of viewers on the side
lines. LNO at Brevins of Busco, Hall's Factory, and
this month back to the Club House which will probably
be the last for this year. They were all well attended and
a good time for all Honoring our Sweethearts.
Many Congrads to Spring Ceremonial Honoree Larry
Ashley for his nice class of 35 new members. We have
already elected one, Justin Smith to our unit. Thanks
Larry, you helped us get a good member. Justin has
helped us many times at the Horse Show as a kid and
we are very lucky he has returned. Please welcome
Justin and Lady Jill, they have three children and he is
self employed at his own business Smithy's Ag Diesel
Repair. If engine goes putt-putt you need Justin to make
it purrrr.
Horse Show is just a few days away, Chairmans John
V and Bob Dumford has us busy with all the finial
details. Many thanks to all the other Nobles who has
gave us a hand preparing for this great event, also help
us by wishing for nice weather and a great attendance
of exhibitors. Thinking of nice weather I can hear them
mushrooms popping, Lady Jeneva needs to heat up the
skillet cause I'm off to get a mess, so happy hunting to
you also.

Dear Bagpipe Fans,
Spring is finally here and we are getting a chance to
play outside!
We had a Great time at the “Blessing of the Bikes”
in Arcola on April 11. Goose, Bobby, Mark and I
rode our motorcycles over. The crowd was huge.
They had a short ceremony, and then Mark and his
choral group sang the “Irish Blessing”. Immediately
afterward, we played “Amazing Grace”. While
waiting to get our bikes blessed, a number of people
came up and told us how much they appreciated and
enjoyed our performance (it sure is good to have
fans).
Our next public appearance was the Shipshewana
parade. I don’t think I have ever seen that many
horses and buggies in one place. Greg did a good
job as Pipe Major leading us through our tunes.
Bobby, Dick and I played the pipes and Lance kept
us in time with the bass drum. The weather was nice
and the crowd was larger than I expected.
Our latest gig was playing the Military Medley at
the Shrine Stated Meeting. It always warms my
heart to see the veterans stand when we play their
prior service tune. Dick, Goose, Bobby, Scott, Greg
and I played the pipes to the accompaniment of Brad
on the snare. Brad has really made vast improvement on the snare (he was outstanding of the tenor
drum before he transitioned) and his playing adds a
“zip” to the music!
We are always seeking other members to join our
happy group. You don’t have to have prior musical
experience. We teach bagpipe lessons and the drum
section is always glad to have another player. This
could be your chance to become part of a great tradition.

Khyber Gun Club
Years ago proficiency in sending and receiving morse
code was required to become an amateur radio operator
or ham. That requirement is no longer required. Today
there are (3) levels of amateur radio license –
Technician, General and Amateur Extra.
The Technician class license is the entry-level license
of choice for most new ham radio operators. To earn the
Technician license requires passing one examination
totaling 35 questions on radio theory, regulations
and operating practices. The license gives access to
all Amateur Radio frequencies above 30 megahertz,
allowing these licensees the ability to communicate
locally and most often within North America. It also
allows for some limited privileges on the HF (also
called "short wave") bands used for international
communications.
The General class license grants some operating
privileges on all Amateur Radio bands and all
operating modes. This license opens the door to worldwide communications. Earning the General class
license requires passing a 35 question examination.
General class licensees must also have passed the
Technician written examination.

Warm weather is great for trap shooting so come to
the 3rd Tuesday shoot at the Horse Patrol Grounds.
You don’t have to be good to enjoy shooting and talking with the participants. Shooting starts at 6:00 with
loaner guns and ammo available.
The passing of long time member Dr Garland
Anderson came as a complete shock. He always added
some joviality to the meetings. His contribution to
the hunting and shooting community will be greatly
missed, .along with his humor, upbeat personality and
stories. A contribution was made, in his name, to the
Chicago Shriners Hospital.
The Sportsman raffle will be held on September 12 at
the Horse Patrol Grounds. Get your raffle tickets and
plan to come and enjoy the spectacle, along with beer
and eats that are included in the ticket price.
The next KHYBER meeting will be on June 23 at
7:00 in the Cabiri room. Eats from the Lounge menu
start at 6:00. This will be the last meeting until the fall
schedule starts in September.

The Amateur Extra class license conveys all available
U.S. Amateur Radio operating privileges on all bands
and all modes. Earning the license is more difficult; it
requires passing a thorough 50 question examination.
Extra class licensees must also have passed all previous
license class written examinations.
Our annual Field Day sponsored by the American
Radio Relay League (ARRL) will be held June 27thand
June 28th at our unit treasurer Steve Brunjes’ home 325 E. Division Rd, Huntington, Indiana. Here with
amateurs all across North America we will be operating
in simulated emergency conditions using emergency
power and temporarily erected antennas. Stop by for a
visit during Field Day at Steve’s home.
We meet the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 for
our unit meeting. If you have ever had a desire to
talk with folks across the country or the other side of
world over the airways, stop by
and visit us. Everyone that has an interest is invited to
attend as our guest. We are glad to get on the air and
provide a demonstration as well as providing classes
and coaching for those interested.

Greetings Nobles:
We all survived Shipshewana, the first parade of the
season. Everybody looked sharp and a great time
was had by all. Thanks to our Parade Marshall for all
the hard work that went into planning the even. A
special thanks to the Divan for the Oasis. Everybody
who helped out there made this parade a great success
for Mizpah Shrine!
Now we look ahead to Huntington and Columbia City. Since we do not have a meeting in May,
contact John B or Tim Y for all the parade details.

Details for the Annual Whitley County Tractor Drive
are coming together. This event is always great
and we have an incredible turnout. So far we have
mapped out 30 miles through the highways and
byways of beautiful Whitley County. Our half way
point will feature lunch at a surprise location sure to
please all. We will see you all there! If you are short
a tractor contact T Yagel or Doug W and we will see
what we can do.

Howdy Kinfolk and Flatlanders
In April, we welcomed 7 new members into our hillbilly clan. When you see our new members, be sure
to welcome them. During this meeting, the club also
approved a tentative schedule of events for this year.
Our next gathering will be at the Tin Cap baseball game
on Saturday June 13th. If you purchased tickets, we will
be meeting at Rudy’s Shop, 409 W. Brackenridge at
5:00 PM for a picnic. He is located about 4 houses due
west of the home plate entrance to the ballpark. If you
purchased tickets and didn’t see the final details in our
most recent newsletter, call me at 740-1070.
Our July 11th gathering will be the world famous
Mongolian stir fry that will be hosted by the Auer’s this
year. Bill, Laura, Randy and Sherry Krider will need a
lot of help with this event. Our end of June newsletter
will have final details and the times when help is
needed.
I want to thank Barry and Pam Richards for
volunteering to host the clan In August. For anyone
who has done this, it is no small undertaking. However, because of the Shrine participation in the North
Manchester parade that starts late on Saturday August
8th, we have cancelled that meeting. Thank you Barry
and Pam for offering. We will find a time next year that
we can do this.

If you know of any children from birth to 18 years of age who have orthopadic or burn problems, bring them to

Ladies of the Household,
Daughters of the Nile
June 10-14 is our Supreme Session in Albuquerque,
NM this year. Hope everyone attending has registered
by now. It is an important event if you can make it.
Meetings, Legislation to be voted on and the fantastic
performances are only a large part of it. Don't forget,
our Temple Ladies will be having a private dinner
together on Tuesday June 9th. We will meet in the
lobby of the hotel at 5 pm.
In July we will be hosting our first Hawaiian Luau.
This will be held at the Indian Springs Campground,
0981 County Road 64, Garrett, IN. Join us for a fun
filled day of lazing in the sun and soaking up the rays.
Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy your day of swimming
and relaxing. Dinner will be served at 5 pm. Followed
by the fantastic entertainment of Guild of Rock. We
will be having raffles, 50/50 and, not to be forgotten,
the Hula and Limbo contest, plus various other games
for your enjoyment. Camping is available and so are
lodges for those that do not have a camper. Contact
them at: IndianSpringsOutdoors.com or 260-3575572 to make your reservation. Spend a great weekend enjoying friends. Fliers are all over with more
information. To reserve a campsite or rent a lodge let
them know you are with Daughters of the Nile for a
discounted rate. Reservation should be made at least
2 months in advance for the lodges and campsites to
stay as a group.
August 15th we will be having a Ladies Day Out. To
meet at the Queen's home, 15103 McDuffee Road,
Churubusco, IN for a breakfast buffet. Then on to
Shipshewana for shopping and lunch. August 23
we will be partnering with the Shriners at the FlyIn Breakfast to show our support for the Shriner
Children. Bring you donations of baked goods and
crafts to sell.
Everyone's help is needed to make this a successful
and profitable year for the philanthropy we strive to
support. Remember “it takes a village”.
Please mark your calendars and reserve this date
for September 25th. This will be the Queen's Gala
Fundraiser “Evening At the Nile”. We will be having a
Silent Auction @ 5 pm with hors d' oeuvres followed
by a wonderful dinner at 6 pm. Guest speakers and
entertainment to follow You definitely do not want to
miss this event. Dress will be formal.
Last but certainly not least I want to give thanks and
kudos to Karen Kippert for all her hard work and support. I would never be able to do all this without your
support and expertise. Thank you from the bottom of
my heart. I love and appreciate you so very much!
