CHANGES TO EAST NASHVILLE A P R I L 1 9 , 2 0 1 6 JILL PEEPLES F A M I L Y R E L A T I O N S C O O R D I N A T O R WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? • 2014-‐15: High concentration of priority schools in East Nashville • East Nashville Advisory Committee, comprised of parents/school leaders/teachers/community/ Director of Schools, was formed and tasked with discussing several items for schools: • Academic programming • Facility utilization • Wrap-‐around services • School feeder patterns Academics *Add STEAM (Science, Technology, Art, Math) to Inglewood Elementary * Add STEM (Science, Technology Engineering Math) to Rosebank Elementary School * Add teaching model, Paideia, to Warner Elementary Feeder Patterns * KIPP Kirkpatrick feeds into KIPP middle and high school * Rosebank Elementary School, Warner Elementary, and Kirkpatrick Elementary feed into Stratford STEM Magnet School * Warner Elementary pathway to East Nashville Magnet Middle School Facility Utilization • Increase capacity at East Middle and High because of consistently large waitlist every year • Utilize space at Stratford to create 5-‐12 grade school • Bailey STEM Middle would become part of Stratford STEM Magnet, 5-‐8 Wrap-‐around services in Priority Schools • Community Achieves • Restorative Justice • Increase social workers • Centerstone counseling • Behavioral Specialists RELOCATION OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOL • East Nashville Magnet School is splitting into separate schools • Additional 50 students in 5th grade with gradual enrollment reaching 700 students in 3 years • New middle school address: 2000 Greenwood Avenue • School schedule: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. • Transportation from high school to middle school both in the morning and afternoon STUDENT OFFERINGS Academics • Paideia: teaching model • Blended Learning: time= instruction and time with technology • Magnet School Extra-‐Curricular Activities Resources and Supports • Athletics • Cheerleading • Student government association • Art • Intramurals • Social and emotional learning • Community partners COSMETIC UPDATES New gym dloor Changing school signs Outside landscaping New Interior paint Washing the exterior building QUESTIONS?
