CastellinainChiantiand
thenproceedtoourlovely
villa,PodereLeRadicchie.

explorethelocalSundaymarketand
visitseveralcharmingshops.At
lunchtime,wemeetmasterbutcher
DarioCecchini,famousinItalyforhis
grass-fedbeef,andthenenjoyamiddaySundayfeastofDario'sdelicious
meatdishesathisiconicrestaurant
SoloCiccia,locatedacrossfromhis
macelleria(butchershop).Our
cookingclassthiseveningfeatures

producewepurchaseatthemarket.

Thismorning,weexplorethepicturesque
medievaltownofSanGimignano,famous
foritsmanytowers,andviewmagnificent
frescosdepictingtheOldTestamentand
NewTestamentCyclesthatgracethe
Duomo(mainchurch).Thereisampletime
toclimbtothetopofatowertoadmirethe
viewsofthesurroundingcountrysideand
toshopforlinens,purses,pottery,foods
andmore.Youmayprefertojustwander
around,sampleworld-famousgelato,orsit
atacafesippingacappuccinoandwatching
theworldpassby.Wehaveanalfresco

TodaywedrivetoSiena,theperennialrivalofRenaissance
Florence,thatnowseemsperpetually(andpleasantly)stuckin
theMiddleAges.AguideshowsusherfavoritespotsinSiena…
welearnthehistoryofSaintCatherine,visittheDuomo,the
PiazzadelCampo,wherethefamousPaliohorseraceisheld,and
thePalazzoPubblicowithitsgloriousmedievalfrescos.Along
theway,PaulaintroducesyouherfavoriteTuscanpotteryand
linenstores.Lunchisataprosciutteria(acasualrestaurant
specializinginTuscancharcuterieandcheeses)andafterwards
thereisfreetimeforexploringSienaonyourown.Ontheway
backtothevilla,westopforgelatoandhavetimetoexplorethe
tinyhamletofMonteriggioni.Thiseveningwelearntoprepare
theperfectOssoBucoandhavedinneratLeRadicchie.
DAY5-CastellodiBrolio,CeramicheRampini,
Casamonti,SanDonatoinPoggioandSicelle
.
WebeginthedayattheimposingCastellodiBrolio,whereBaron
BettinoRicasolicreatedtheformulaforChiantiClassicointhe19th
century.Followingavisittothechapel,thefamilymuseumandthe
stunningRenaissancegardens,wedrivetowardsRaddawherewevisit
CeramicheRampini,atinypotteryfactorywhereweseehowtheir
exquisitepotteryispaintedandfired.And,yes,thereistimefor
shopping!WecontinuetoCasamonti,anaziendaagricola(farming
estate)thatproducesChiantiClassico,Oliod’OlivaExtra-Virgineand
CintaSenesepigs.Followinganinterestingtouroftheiragingrooms,
wesitdowntoafeastincorporatingfoodsproducedontheestate.
ThiseveningwegotothenearbyvillageofSanDonatoinPoggiofora
passeggiata,followedbyaperitiviinalocalospitale(inn),andthen
returntoSicelleforadeliciouspastadinner.
DAY6–Greve,Montefioralle,Lamole&RisottoClass
Today,wedrivetothequainttownofGrevewherewehavefreetimetoexploretheshopsonthecharming
mainpiazzawithitsstatueoflocalsonexplorerGiovannidaVerrazzano.Wemakeaquickstopather
picturesquehilltopneighbor,Montefioralle,homeforatimetoLeonardodaVinci.Nextwecrossthevalley
anddriveuppasttheVillaVignamaggio,thebirthplaceoftheMonaLisa.Wecontinueupthescenicroute
througholivegrovestothehighly-regardedrestaurantintinyLamolewhereenjoylunchontheirbeautiful
terraceoverlookingtheChiantihillsandvineyards.Theafternoonisfreetowalkinthevineyardsthatsurround
ourvillaortosimplyrelax.ThiseveningweprepareRisotto.AperitivianddinneratPodereleRadicchie.
DAY7–BadiadiPassignano,RenzoMarinai,PicnicLunchattheVilla,
andourArrivederciDinner
OurfinaldayinTuscanybeginswithavisittotheincomparableBadiadiPassignanowhereaguideexplainsthe
historyandartworksincludingGhirlandaio’srecently-restoredfresco,hisCenacolo(LastSupper).Nextwe
visitthewineestateofRenzoMarinaiforatourandtastingoftheirorganic,bio-dynamicChiantiClassico
wines.WereturntoLeRadicchieforafestivealfrescoluncheon.Wepasstheafternoonleisurelyatthevilla,
enjoyingthebeautyofthisveryspecialplace.Ourweektogetherculminatesthiseveningwithanexceptional
dinneratthechicRistorol’AnticaScuderiawherewecelebrateourwonderfulweekinTuscanyandtoastto
futuretimestogether.
DAY8-ArrivederciTuscany
