2016 SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Eva Longoria National Spokesperson Our Mission PADRES is a non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for children and young adults with cancer and their families. PADRES provides a comprehensive understanding of childhood cancer and Beto Cuevas National Spokesperson Latino Market Our History other blood disorders, as well as effective methods for their treatment. Its unique and inclusive program model is premised upon the delivery of a health and education curriculum, emotional support services and quality of life activities that are culturally– relevant, family–centered and community– based. PADRES’ programs and services, while primarily designed for the Latino community, have benefitted thousands of childhood cancer patients from ALL ethnic and economic backgrounds. NO FAMILY IS TURNED AWAY. PADRES was established in 1985 after two research studies, funded by the American Cancer Society indicated that culturallyrelevant, educational and emotional support services for the Latino patient were lacking in the medical setting. The outcome influenced the medical community to recognize culturally-relevant, education and emotional support, as vital healthrelated resources in ensuring the success of the recommended treatment plan and ultimately the survival of the child. Our Children and Families At PADRES our family profile is one of a generally underserved population. More than 70% of our families are first-generation Americans who suffer limited academic background; demonstrate limited fluency in English; lack adequate medical insurance and earn less than $25,000 in annual income while on treatment. Our patients range between newborn and 21 years of age at diagnosis. Membership is free and once becoming a PADRES member, a family is a member for life. Over the years, PADRES has invested countless hours researching, understanding and serving the immediate and longterm needs of families who have a child undergoing treatment for cancer or other blood disorders. Children and young adults, as well as their family members who are battling cancer undergo severe emotional and financial hardship. The need for PADRES support programs and services is not only greatly necessary but vital in increasing the child’s rate for survival. Our goal at PADRES is simple…to provide HOPE and deliver programs and services that will help a family manage their child’s treatment, while striving to keep their family unit healthy and strong. Because the population we support is primarily underserved, our families often lack access to resources such as, emotional support, crisis intervention, and daily living assistance (i.e. transportation to and from the hospital, grocery assistance). This is why PADRES has set a goal to provide HOPE to over 6,500 family members in 2016. Increasing the needs met by over 1,500 individuals from the year previous. Our Programs and Services PADRES has an array of programs and services that provide family members with a network of resources, support and aid. Quality of Life Activities Family Services Health & Education Programs Emotional Support PADRES hosts a variety of special events and holiday celebrations throughout the year that benefit the entire family. These events offer patients and their family members the opportunity to come together as a family in a safe fun-filled environment. A cancer diagnosis not only affects the family emotionally but financially as well. PADRES offers a variety of services and resources to help families minimize the financial burden they encounter while their child is undergoing treatment. One of our main priorities for our children and families is to be well-versed in all aspects of health education. Our programs are designed to educate all members of the family on topics such as, childhood cancer, related blood disorders, psychosocial issues, nutrition, physical fitness and general family health. Our program brings parents together and builds a network of psychological support that assists each family member in coping with the childhood cancer diagnosis and treatment. Programmatic Sponsorship Opportunities PADRES offers various programs and services that provide support, not only to the child or young adult diagnosed with cancer or other blood disorder but to the entire family.
