Stride For Life
Congratulations Ms. L!
Please join me in congratulating Ms. LagundzijadeFreitas on her promotion to Principal of Ross R.
McKay Public School in Hillsburgh. We want to
wish her the very best. We will miss you at Island
Lake.
Thanks for the Great Year
On behalf of all of the staff of
Island Lake, I would like to thank
all of you for your great support
throughout the year. It has been a
busy year as we have recognized
the good character of our students
at our Character Education Assemblies, celebrated
several “spirit” days and participated in many extracurricular learning experiences.
As teachers sit down to write report cards, they
have a chance to reflect on the academic
accomplishments of our students. It is my favourite
time of year as I get an opportunity to read the
reports to see how well our students have done.
Congratulations to all of our students!
Colleen Egan

June 2012
Safe fun in the sun
As the weather gets warmer, remember to stay safe in the sun. Before you and your child head outside,
check the UV index on The Weather Network or Environment Canada websites.
When you go outside, wear sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen (SPF of 15 or higher). And if the UV index is 6
or more (high), also stay in the shade.
Keep in mind that babies and children burn more quickly from the sun. Sunscreen is not recommended for
babies under 6 months old, but is safe to use on children.
For more information about sun safety, visit Health Canada at www.healthcanada.gc.ca.

SOS - Save Our Subscriptions!
Our QSP Family Reading Magazine
Program will be returning this
FALL, so please save your
magazine orders (new or renewals)
and order them through our school
program.
We all benefit!
Our school earns profits through magazines people already purchase.
QSP prices are up to 85% off of newsstand prices. A single magazine can cost as little
as $1.00 per issue. That’s a great investment in literacy!
Any reading material, including magazines, will encourage children to read and a
parent who reads is a great role model!
If you can’t wait until our program starts, you can order early and still support our
school by shopping online! It’s easy…just visit www.QSP.ca.
Plan Ahead and Help Even More………
Consider giving magazine subscriptions as gifts this year!
Let friends and family know about our upcoming fundraiser and ask them to
save their orders for our campaign or to order online now at www.QSP.ca!
