Our History
Alan Scholz began his racing career in
North Dakota, and opened a bicycle
shop in his garage.
Shortly after Alan moved to Oregon,
he became a father. As a family that
relied on bicycles for transportation,
he needed to find a way to carry his
young daughter, Hanna.
Alan invented the Burley trailer. A few
years later, Alan and his brother Hanz
created the Burley Duet Tandem.
Hanz’s desire to be able to take a
quality bicycle with him when he
traveled spawned the Bike Friday.
Hanz and Alan opened Bike Friday in
1992 in Eugene, and made the
commitment to remain a Made in USA
company.
Today, Hanna is our General Manager.
