Fifty percent of the proceeds go to a member with the winner drawn at the Holiday Potluck. You don’t have to be present to win. Fifty percent goes to one of the charities we support. Missy has set her goal this year at $600 so we will be hearing from her a lot. Be ready to give at any PCMC event. We are up to $217! (only $383 to go) We can do it! This fund raiser is fun and the more we collect, the more goes to our charity. Fun and a good cause! Charity Highlights: One of the 3 charities that PCMC works with is the Emergency Food Network, EFN. In addition to our annual cash donation, we go to the distribution center in Lakewood 2 times per year to repackage food. In 2014 EFN reports that they distributed: 4,755,277 lbs. of vegetables; 2,392,322 lbs. of fruit; 1,411,483 lbs. of grains; 942,056 lbs. of protein; 449,064 lbs. of dairy, 1,734,114 lbs. of USDA and more for a total of about 15.3 million pounds of food. According to the Annual Report, “The need has gone up 11% since 2011. To meet this need we are distributing 17% more food in the same time-frame.” EFN This serves about 118,451 visits from clients per month. The distribution goes to 57,936 babies (0-2), 441,986 children (3-18), 655,444 adults (19-54) and 266,051 seniors (55+). Thank you to our club members who volunteer their time to repackage oats, corn, apples, potatoes, and whatever they put in front of us. It is fun and a great cause. Thank you also, to all those who contribute money for EFN throughout the year. Our next opportunity to repackage food is in October. Keep watching the newsletter and let Nancy Freeman know if you are interested in helping. We said 100 jars of Peanut Butter and we did it! Thank you for all of the club’s generosity. We had a goal of 100 jars of peanut butter to support the Korum and Ford Peanut Butter Drive. In the end, we collected 105 jars. Way to go Rachel for coordinating this and way to go Club! Loading the Ford with Peanut Butter. NEW BUSINESS Lifetime Membership Options - Greg RobbinsThe following issue has been raised. As the bylaws now read lifetime membership is achieved after pay- ing dues for 15 consecutive years. Within the next six years the membership roster will be lifetime member heavy. The board is considering a few options 1. No change to the bylaw. 2. Change 15 years to 20 years for all current member. 3. Change 15 years to 20 years but grandfather those currently with 12 years or more of membership. 4. Change 15 years to 20 years but grandfather those currently with 10 years or more membership. 5. Delete any future lifetime memberships. Membership discussion- Add five dollars to all incoming members and keep lifetime. One member says he's been in other clubs and still pays and would even if there was no lifetime membership. Bill Norman was asked why there was a lifetime membership, Bill stated lifetime membership was started for the charter members and then later they added after 15 years of continuous membership a member could become a lifetime member. One member stated honorary/lifetime member should receive a lifetime card and still have to pay dues. It was asked what the membership dues cover, the dues cover the storage shed, insurance for the shed and the club cruises. At the end of this discussion the membership agreed -upon three options: 1. Change 15 years to 20 years but grandfather those currently for 12 years or more membership. 2. No change. 3. Delete lifetime membership but grandfather those who are currently lifetime members. Motion to Present Lifetime Membership Change 1st Paul Geise, 2nd Greg Zirkle 1 opposed, Membership Carried for discussion at July's General Meeting. Pony News July 2015 Book Review: Ford Mustang Red Book: 1964 1/2— 2015 by Peter Sessler Whether you’re a collector, historian, or armchair enthusiast, every meaningful Mustang related fact, figure, specification, historical pricing data, description of available options, production numbers and everything else anyone could want to know is right here in this awesome little book. From the first six-cylindered Mustang of the 1964-1/2 model year, through fire-breathing, world-beating Boss and Shelby models, to 2015’s all-new Mustang. This little book is unlike so many other info rich reference guides that can be as dull and mind numbing to read as poorly translated tech manuals. Despite the incredibly high level of detail, this compact, encyclopedic source of Mustang information is so straightforward, easy to absorb, and a pleasure to read, as those familiar with Sessler’s crisp, no-nonsense writing style from reading his many other fine books, have long been accustomed. You wanna become a Mustang expert? This is pretty much the only book you need. This is an absolute must have for anyone from the most die-hard and dedicated Mustang enthusiast to the fledgling Ford Mustang fan. Review by Chuck Botsford Staples Rewards Program Save the Date: August 28th Have you got your ticket order in yet? Pony News July 2015 Mustang of the Month Bill Bailey 1967 Green Coupe and 1995 SVT Cobra Convertible/Hardtop Bill has 2 beautiful Mustangs. One is a 1967 coupe Resto-Mod. It has a 342 R Rousch Racing engine, AOD (Automatic Overdrive), coilover suspension, and custom interior. These engines came with 450 bhp. A little “giddy-up” in this pony! It also has 421 ft lbs of torque, 9 in. rear end with Trac-Loc, and Watts three-link rear suspension. The other is a 1995 SVT (Special Vehicle Team) Cobra, factory convertible/hardtop, 5.0, 5 -speed, #44 of 499. 1995 was the first year for the SVT badging and this was the only year Ford made this model and all were black. (Reminds me of Ford’s quote when the assembly line was introduced— ”you can have a car in any color, as long as it’s black”) Out of the factory these had 240 bhp from a 5L V8 engine. According to one source, the purpose for the hardtop convertible was to create a year ‘round convertible. This meant a ragtop for the summer and a hardtop for the winter. Most convertibles of the day were summer cars. The hardtop had glass in the rear with a defogger and interior lights and headliner. It came with a VHS cassette on how to install the hardtop. These tops were a challenge for the factory to attach. Because of this, each was hand fitted to the individual car. The hardtop option added $1825 to the base Cobra convertible price at the time. Very cool, Bill! June Events Duck Parade We had a quacking good time. This festival celebrates the arrival of summer. The city has many events to celebrate the day along with the parade for the entire community to enjoy. It was a perfect sunny day for our four club members, Bill Norman, Pammy Pistella, Missy Willert and Dennis Willert, along with Princess Lyndsay from Curtis, Princess Athena from Lincoln and their Daffodil chaperone Donna and future Princess Kyle to University Place June 6 quack ourselves out in ducks and daffodils to enjoy the day. We had a great time. (More fun on next page) Pony News July 2015 Friday Night Dinner The Hangar Inn Each month the club gets together at a different location to enjoy a meal and friendship. This month it was in Puyallup at The Hangar Inn at Thun Field. have been good ones. We also got to say Happy Birthday to Pete who shared with us a lovely cake. A couple of our usual participants were missing so we want to wish Nancy and Dennis speedy recoveries. We had about 25 attending to enjoy everything from breakfast foods to meatloaf to chief salads and other yummy meals. As usual a few stories were shared across the room helping us all enjoy the evening and get to know one another better. I saw lots of laughing so the stories must The next dinner is at South Hill BJs. See you there. Westport Winery Cruise The 27th was in the mid-90s and that was way too hot for this Mustang enthusiast! Today, however was great! As we were preparing to cruise there were clouds and a few lightening strikes but it was still shorts and ‘T’ shirt weather. By the time we got to Westport it was about 10 degrees cooler but a wonderful cruise. Our hats go off to those that stayed with the top down all the way, even with a few drops here and there. Monika planned a very nice drive. Even though we had trouble staying together at the start, we managed to pull back together. What a fun sight to see about 16 Mustangs traveling down the road, lights on and stripes sparkling. We pulled into the Westport Winery just in time for lunch. We welcomed about 2830 people with several June 19 June 28th new faces as members and/or event participants. As always, it was a fun cruise, fun people, and good eats! After the lunch was done and we finally got everyone in the same spot for the group picture, we cruised the gardens (on our own feet) and they were lovely (not our feet). I believe if you go to any of the club member’s yards, you will see souvenirs from this club event . See the calendar for lots of July fun! Pony News July 2015 Informational Article: Do I Register for Modified or Stock? So here is a hot topic for summer car shows: Modified or Stock? Which is right for my car? It is sometimes a confusing topic as each show is a little different. I asked Charlene Rivera, our car show Co-Chair and she gave me some tips. I also, as usual, borrowed information from another Car Club Newsletter, Kitsap Mustang Club (with permission). The following are guidelines that may help you decide. However, as I have said, it varies from show to show so it is best to ask at each one. At some shows they use the guideline that if your car has three or more significant and visible items (examples listed below) then it should be registered in a modified class. Our show uses five. Clubs also look at modifications differently with some counting engine modifications as individual mods and others counting dress-up modifications to the engine as one mod. Our club uses the guideline that what came out of the Ford Factory is stock. Some dealerships will add modifications. Our club uses a mix of Kitsap, Mustangs NW, Mustangs West, and MCA. Here are some guidelines to modifications: Paint – obvious custom paint jobs, including murals (i.e., flames, graphics, stripes, etc.) Body Work – all body alterations, addition of flares, spoilers, air dams, hood scoops (nonstock), ground effects, etc. (Note: a complete body kit, such as a Saleen kit, which includes front and rear spoilers and side skirts will put that Mustang automatically into the modified class) Under the Hood – Chrome dress up kits, plating or powder coating of parts, special wiring harness, non-stock coolers, non-stock superchargers/turbochargers, blowers, nitrous Wheels/Tires - Aftermarket wheels or tires larger than stock Chrome – blacked out with color or black trim treatment or chrome removed and panels filled Interior – custom or aftermarket seats, custom upholstery work, custom steering wheels or consoles, gear shifter changes, additional (nonstock) tachometer or other gauges, roll bars or other related safety equipment. According to the Kitsap Mustang Club article, modification lists serve as a means to “Level the Playing Field” for all involved and is for guidance only. Everyone at one point or another will make a few modifications to their Mustang and there is nothing wrong with that. But, it is difficult to fairly judge a bone stock V-6 coupe against a GT with a Saleen Body Kit, Bullet Interior, oversized aftermarket rims and tires, and a supercharger (or vice versa) in the same class. From what I have seen this seems to be true at most shows. So take stock of your car, talk to the club sponsoring the show you are entering, and mark your entrance accordingly. Have fun and enjoy showing your car. I am personally looking for the classification for the funniest sign…. Thank you to: KCM and Charlene Rivera for information for the article.
