Welcome to 2012. – I can’t believe I have just
written that, but yes - it’s a New Year with the
promise of many fun and adventurous boating
activities to come. As mentioned in the last
issue of On Deck, the Boating Committee
has been busy planning a calendar of events
for the next 12 months including overnight
cruises, day cruises and training activities.
The training calendar will kick off with a
special NavRally Training day in February.
We aim to demystify NavRallies and provide
support for those contemplating involvement
in the future. The day will bring together
experienced NavRalliers with new and
interested members and their families to get
a taste of Nav Rallies – what they are, what
they have to offer, and how to get involved.
This day will offer an ‘on water’ component
so that participants can have a go in a relaxed
environment accompanied by an experienced
skipper to guide them. Please keep an eye
out for forthcoming editions of our Members’
weekly email for more details of this event.
I write this in hope that good weather would
smile on our lunch cruise to Mornington on
Sunday 29 January. This is always a popular
cruise and a programmed J R Kerr event.
It kicks off our calendar of events for the
`LHYSL[»ZOVWL[OH[ÄUL^LH[OLYHUKNVVK
company is the theme for the year.
On Sunday 12 February we are planning a
Family Cruise and Competition to be held on
Port Phillip. It is also planned as a J R Kerr
event and is designed to provide a relaxed
cruise on the Bay, combined with a quiz
about inshore and land based marks between
Parkdale and Seaford. So again I ask that you
refer to the members’ weekly email for ongoing information about this event.
Preparations for the Refuge Cove overnight
trip (March Labour Day long weekend) are
well underway. As places for this trip are
limited and there are only nine rooms at
the Welshpool hotel available on the Friday
night I suggest that you book early through
[OL)4@:VMÄJL0M`V\^V\SKSPRL[VRUV^
more about this weekend, please call me on
0413 011270. Please be aware that this in
an off-shore activity and there are additional
safety requirements for participants and their
vessels.
The Club’s new calendar sets out a schedule
VMTHU`ZVJPHSÄZOPUNHUKIVH[PUNL]LU[Z0
urge you all to use this as a planning tool for
your boating activities during 2012 and I look
forward to seeing you at more of our events.
Until then,

Members,
The following is an extract from a letter
entitled BE BOAT SAFE THIS SUMMER
written by the Director – Maritime Safety
Division of Transport Safety Victoria:
Summer is the peak boating season when
most incidents involving injuries and fatalities
unfortunately occur. Transport Safety Victoria’s
Maritime Safety Branch has
launched a campaign

The campaign will raise the
boating community’s awareness
of the importance of wearing
a life jacket and the essential
need for correctly sized and

boats. Boats can be swamped,
lose stability, capsize
and sink – and even the most

As usual, many people put in a huge effort
to make this weekend a success. Paul,
Marina and staff (looking great in their

great job in keeping up with member and

should be congratulated, especially those
who worked all through the night on

The lowlight of the weekend was an
effort put in by Darrel (Scooter) Seager of

on his two rods in a plastic holder. Snap! both lost over the side. Day three - rod in

Hi everybody,
I hope you have all had a well deserved
break, and are looking forward to tackling
2012 head on.
CHILDRENS CHRISTMAS PARTY
The 2011 Children’s Christmas Party was an
enjoyable day. The weather was a little cool,
so Santa had to leave his sleigh on Beach Rd.
The big guy didn’t let anyone down, and lots
of presents were delivered to happy children.
This event at the Club is always an enjoyable
day for those that believe in Santa, and for
those that don’t.

disappointment - particularly at weekends;
the good rain in conjunction with our

looking great. At this time of the year the
