Mary Breighner, VP - Global Practice Leader, FM Global
Mary Breighner is vice
president, global practice
leader -for education,
public entities and health
care for FM Global. She
works at the company’s
office in Cincinnati, OH,
and manages the accounts of more than 100
colleges and universities,
as well as hundreds of
public schools, governmental entities and hospitals worldwide.
Breighner joined FM
Global in 1995. Prior to that, she worked as an account executive with a major broker and was a member of the broker’s national education committee. Breighner previously
served for 17 years as the director of risk management at
Columbia University, New York, NY. There, she was responsible for developing comprehensive insurance programs, riskfunding alternatives for the University and the design and
implementation of a self-insured workers’ compensation
program. She also served as president of a captive insurance
company owned by select universities, among which Temple
University participates.
Breighner received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from
Fordham University, New York, NY.
She is an active member of the University Risk Management
and Insurance Association, has served on the Association’s
Board of Directors, participated in various committees, and
was president. She received the Distinguished Risk Manager
Award from the organization in 1992. She is a member of
ASHRM, PRIMA, and RIMS.

Exam FM close, join your fellow students
at the “Exam Passer Panel” workshop to
discuss what it is like studying for Actuarial exams. Included topics will be methods of study, materials used, guidance
and tips. The presentation will include
going over resources that are available to
maximize study efforts.
Breighner holds the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designation. She has presented and moderated national and international events on higher education, healthcare and public entity risk management and insurance issues,
including PRIMA, URMIA, ASHRM, and RIMS conferences.
