B”H 5712 LORRAINE ROAD, LAKEWOOD RANCH · 941-752-3030 · WWW.CHABADOFBRADENTON.COM CHABAD NEWS DECEMBER 2015 /KISLEV—TEVET 5776 VOL. 13/ ISSUE 3 MESSAGE FROM THE RABBI IN THIS ISSUE: CTEEN INJOY 2 RECORD ATTENDANCE AT JLI COURSE MEMORABLE MOMENTS AT CHS OF THE ARTS 3 ONGOING PROGRAMS 6 IN APPRECIATION 7 CALENDAR OF EVENTS 8 Chabad of Bradenton & Lakewood Ranch is an organization that provides social, educational, recreational, and religious programming. Chabad is a place where every Jew, affiliated or unaffiliated, observant or non-observant, can come and feel comfortable. We believe that regardless of educational background or affiliation, it is the inalienable right of every Jewish person to learn and participate in our heritage, which belongs to us equally. Latkes. Menorahs Lightings. Dreidels. Sugfagiyot. These words evoke fond memories for many and unleashes great excitement for children as they anticipate the holiday of Chanukah. This year’s Chanukah celebrations bring added significance as Jewish communities worldwide celebrate the year of Hakhel, a onceevery-seven-years opportunity to celebrate Jewish unity and learning. Throughout the year, Jewish synagogues and organizations are hosting communal gatherings for men, women and children dedicated to encouraging the observance and study of Torah. The Torah states: “At the end of every seven years, at an appointed time, in the Festival of Sukkot [following] the year of Shemitah, when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord, your G‑d, in the place He will choose, you shall read this Torah before all Israel, in their ears. Assemble the people: the men, the women, the children… (-Deuteronomy 31:10-12.) The "Hakhel Year" is an opportune time to promote Jewish unity and gatherings. The biblical mitzvah of Hakhel is only in effect when all the Jewish people reside in the Holy Land. Nevertheless, the Lubavitcher Rebbe repeatedly encouraged all Jews to utilize this auspicious time to assemble– men, women and children – and encourage each other to increase in Torah observance and study, and foster an environment of fear of G‑d. The entire year is a "Hakhel Year," and an opportune time to promote Jewish unity and gatherings. During this year, everyone is encouraged to utilize any opportunity to form a Jewish gathering recreate in microcosm the grand Hakhel event. What better opportunity for Hakhel gatherings than Chanukah, a time known for spreading light in the world? At this time when the forces of darkness seem to be crowding around us, it is vital to create gatherings of Jews who are focused on adding light in this world. The power of a single mitzvah observed is compared to a single candle lighting up a dark room. The power we have to unleash light and goodness in the world is infinite! This Chanukah, let us add in gatherings of light! Join us for our two menorah lightings on Monday December 7 at Lakewood Ranch Main Street and Wednesday, December 9 at Ellenton Outlet Mall for Hakhel gatherings of light. Make some Chanukah lightings yourself with your family and friends and spread the light during this special Hakhel year. Rabbi Mendy Bukiet Page 2 CTEEN—INJOY CTeen enjoyed two fabulous events in November. CTeen’s Injoy event themed to joy and happiness featured exciting humanitarian and social activities.
