There is a suggested contribution (based on
individual income) to help offset the raw food
cost), however no eligible senior is turned
away from the congregate or on-site program
because of their inability to pay.
Your charitable donation to ETHRA Senior Meals Program can provide food for your elderly neighbors
throughout the year. There are also many volunteer
opportunities including delivering meals to homes.
A combination of funds are used to provide
the Meals Program. They include individual
donations, participant contributions, corporate
and community donations, Tennessee Commission on Aging, U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services, and U.S. Department of
Agriculture. Food costs continue to rise and
the need for local help increases.

There is Joy in Eating and Aging Well!
As we age, eating well can be the key to a positive outlook and answer
to staying emotionally balanced. Other benefits include better health,
higher energy, faster recuperation from illness or surgery, mental
sharpness, and overall improved quality of life.
There are many reasons why seniors have trouble eating nutritious
meals every day. Eating alone is not always fun and can be boring. It
may also be hard to plan, shop and cook meals. Sometimes there are
medical problems preventing good eating habits.
Senior Meals Program provides companionship and
healthy meals for seniors who are isolated and lonely
or unable to prepare their own meals.
There are two components within the
meals program.
The Meals on Wheels component
provides lunch for
people who are
homebound and/or disabled, and
helps them maintain independence.
Many participate following discharge
from the hospital.
The Café or on-site Meals Program
provides a social atmosphere and
lunch.
Dining sites are located in
senior centers and at other venues.
