Welcome to the 17th Annual California Independent
Film Festival. This program can be used to explore the wide
variety of films selected for this year’s festival, and also serve
as a guide to the events you wish to attend. There is such a
diversity of film, we hope you will attend a style of film that
you might not otherwise see.
This year’s opening night is set to be the most
spectacular opening night in festival history. The opening
night film is titled “An Evergreen Christmas”, a family film
directed by Jeremy Culver. We are excited to announce that
we have more expected cast members from this film than any
other film in festival history. Where else will you have the
opportunity to meet Oscar Nominee Robert Loggia (Jagged
Edge, Scarface, Big, An Officer and a Gentleman), Charleene
Closshey (A Thousand Cuts; Musician and Composer);
Booboo Stewart (Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Twilight Saga:
Breaking Dawn Part 1 & 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Jake
Sandvig (Easy A, Sky High, Weeds), and Greer Grammer
(Awkward, Life Partners). Also in attendance will be Director
Jeremy Culver; Producer, Kim Waltrip; and Director of
Photography, Jeffrey Osborne.
As you are perusing the program, keep in mind all the
sponsors who have generously donated to the festival.
Without sponsors, we would not be able to put on the film
festival.

We truly hope you enjoy the weekend and that you are
proud to have the California Independent Film Festival in
your backyard.
We would like to dedicate this year's
festival to our longtime friend and
supporter, Ken Parks, who has passed away.
Ken was involved with the festival for over
10 years and dedicated much of his time to
the industry. He will be greatly missed.

Festival Coordinator’s Welcome:
Welcome to the 17th annual California Independent Film Festival! The Board
of Directors and I are honored that you have chosen to be part of this year’s program.
I am excited not only because I believe the selections make up one of the best
lineups in CAIFF history, but also because this is my first year as the Festival
Coordinator. I have been a volunteer since 2002.
This year’s festival is expanding to San Francisco with screenings at the Castro
Theater. Anyone who has not had a chance to see a movie in this beautiful venue
should attend one of the events. The Castro is definitely worth visiting!
This year, the CAIFF Board of Directors, Committee Chairs and I hope that
you will take the opportunity to meet the filmmakers who will be in attendance, as
well as the other festival attendees. There is a wide range and variety of films, so
everyone should be able to find what they like.
I want to thank all the filmmakers who have films screening, because without
your passion, there would be no festival. I also want to thank the volunteers who
have dedicated so much time and energy to make this event great, not only for this
weekend, but also for the entire year leading up to this festival.
Thank you for participating with us in this great event!
Best,

Your Key to a Successful FEST
Buy Tickets in Advance to Avoid Sell-Outs
Tickets are available anytime at www.caiff.org or the Rheem/Orinda Theatre Box Offices.
When a film screening is deemed "Rush Only," it means that the allotment of advance
tickets has been reached. Seats that are set aside for pass holders are released for sale 10
minutes prior to a screening.
The released seats will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis in a "Rush Line" that forms
one hour prior to a screening. Cash only. All sales are final. No refunds or exchanges.
Plan to Arrive Early
Shows begin ON TIME and are not preceded by film trailers. Lines form outside the theater
one half-hour prior to show time; badge holders will form a separate line. No one, not even
badge holders, will be guaranteed a seat after a screening begins.
Respect Your Fellow Patrons
Seats cannot be held; many screenings sell out and every seat counts. Be sure to silence all cell
phones and avoid casual chatter and loud candy wrappers—Film is a community experience!
Stay Updated
Sign up for the newsletter at www.caiff.org to receive constant updates on sell-outs, scheduling
changes, guest and event information, and more!
Give us a Piece of Your Mind
Fill out the Audience Info Sheet every time you leave a screening to let us know what you
thought about the film. Thank the volunteers and the Lamorinda Theatres’ staff: we couldn’t
do this without them!
Relax...and Enjoy!
If there is a long line to get into your film, don’t push—if you have a ticket you will get in.
Relax, this is a film festival!
There are over 50 films in this year’s Festival —take a chance and see something unexpected.

Synopsis: After tying for the win in New York's "Drag Queen of the Year" contest, Noxeema
Jackson (Wesley Snipes) and Vida Boheme (Patrick Swayze) win a trip to Hollywood to take part
in the even bigger, "Miss Drag Queen of America Pageant." Before they depart, Vida persuades
Noxeema to take along the inexperienced "drag princess" Chi-Chi Rodriguez (John Leguizamo)
as their protégé (the duo initially refer to Chi-Chi simply as a "boy in a dress" rather than as a
fully-fledged drag queen). To do this, they trade in their airplane tickets
for cash and buy a stylish but old Cadillac convertible with money
given to them by John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt (Robin Williams).

Cas & Dylan is the feature directorial debut from actor-turned-filmmaker Jason Priestley
(Beverly Hills 90120).
Screen legend Richard Dreyfuss (The Goodbye Girl, Jaws) stars as Dr. Cas Pepper, a
curmudgeonly surgeon whose only companion in life is his small dog. Faced with some
unexpected news, Cas makes the abrupt decision to leave Winnipeg and drive west to
British Columbia—and to an uncertain future. Before
departing, he meets an aspiring young writer named
Dylan (Tatiana Maslany; Orphan Black, Picture Day)
who possesses a life-altering secret of her own, and
wouldn’t mind coming along for the ride. The two
unlikely companions hit the road, encountering a
series of bizarre twists and turns along their crosscountry journey. And it isn’t long before they realize
that, in searching for an escape route, they may have
found their place in the world.
Beautifully shot against the visually stunning backdrop
of the Canadian Prairies and Rocky Mountains, Cas &
Dylan is a breathtaking voyage of discovery. Priestley’s
wealth of experience as an actor is obvious in the
performances he extracts from his two leads. Boasting
a terrific soundtrack featuring Canadian artists such as
Jenn Grant and Old Man Luedecke, Cas & Dylan will
appeal to audiences young and old.

inspiration for my short film. Growing up, I eagerly looked for
