February, 2015
Our city is facing very critical issues that affect ALL of its citizens.
If we want to truly be the "it" city, then all residents need to experience in its prosperity.
This meeting will set the stage for a turning point in the Nashville community as it relates to organized power from
grassroots coalitions. At this public event we will address all 2015 Mayoral candidates and outline
THE PEOPLES PLATFORM FOR SOCIAL PROGRESS!
The community platform will consist of specifics around these issues:
1. Affordable Housing and Gentrification
2. Economic Equity and Jobs
3. Criminal Justice
We are offering childcare at ECC from 2:15-5:15 so families with children can attend.
Please commit to attend by contacting Martha Carroll mlcarroll@juno.com or Pastor Jay jay_ecc@bellsouth.net
“Shining our light by welcoming all people, building community, and serving God and neighbor.”
To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
– Psalm 25:1
Thoughts from Jay
Greetings, my friends:
Last Sunday, five of us (William, Matt, Kristie, Dawn, and me) went to the evening Taize
worship service at West End UMC. It was a beautiful time of contemplation, silence, and
uplifting music that nourishes the soul. The term “Taize Worship” comes from the contemplative style of worship in the small town of Taize, France, popularized by Brother Roger
and his community of monks. The music consists of a simple line or two, repeated over and
over as it works into your heart and fills it with peace. The song “Eat This Bread” that we
often sing while coming forward for communion is an example of a Taize song.
My favorite aspect of the worship experience: it felt like an invitation to come into the presence of the holy. The words of Psalm 25 seem appropriate: To you, O LORD, I lift up my
soul. So much of our lives, we are busy. So often, we are guarded, we have walls up. It is
such a blessing to relax, let down our guards, and open ourselves to the presence of God.
Warmth, love, blessings flow over us when we lift our souls to God.
As we enter this season of Lent, I pray that we can free ourselves from distractions long
enough to truly center ourselves and experience the deep peace that comes from knowing we
are held in the arms of a loving God. To you, O LORD, we lift up our souls.
Peace & Blessings to you all,
Pastor Jay

Mouse ...
Well, rats! (That’s what we mice say
when we’re REALLY upset.) We were
SO looking forward to King Cake
crumbs from the annual Eastwood Mardi
Gras dinner, so expertly cooked by Mark
& Leah Honeycutt. But alas. Not to
mention that, but EC3 is out due to the
storm as well – so no crumbs from all the
little children. This little thing called a
winter storm ruined everything.
Other than it being REALLY quiet, because lots of groups cancelled their activities here at church, everything else is
going ok. Thanks to our new HVAC
units, we are nice and toasty warm here.
The water is still running (drip, drip, drip
go the faucets). And if you’re reading
this ... it means the Evangel came out on
schedule.
So in spite of the ice, in spite of the
snow, all is well. Just somebody, anybody – PLEASE bring us some crumbs!
☺
