NATIVE PLANT NURSERY Native Plant Nursery Work Day with WCU Gordon Natural Area Event: Native Plant Nursery Work Day Date: Friday, April 29th (Arbor Day) Time: 12:00PM – 3:00 PM Location: The Gordon Natural Area. We’ll meet at the kiosk near the main entrance to the Gordon Natural Area (at the corner of R Lot, next to the football stadium). The Nursery site is a couple hundred yards into the Gordon, adjacent to Stadium Road. Late-comers can just walk in on Stadium Road and we’ll be easily found. Activities: As part of our goal to help restore diversity to the Gordon, we’re creating a native plant nursery and grow-out facility. This work day will be aimed at establishing the nursery. We will be removing ‘detritus’ (downed trees, fallen tree limbs, etc.), putting up fencing, creating cold frames, and various other tasks. No special skills are required: just an interest in working with the natural world. What to Bring: You should wear work boots, tennis, or some type of a closed-toe shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. NO flip flops! Layer your clothing, such as bringing a long-sleeved shirt or jacket. If you have work gloves bring them, if not we’ll have some available. We will be providing snacks and drinking water, but please bring your own bottle or cup. Weather Considerations: The work day will take place unless there is ‘significant’ weather (i.e., thunderstorms or heavy rain). If there is any uncertainty about the weather, we will post updates to the Facebook page the “Gordon Natural Area”. (https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=gordon%20natural%20area). RSVP: Nur Ritter at nritter@wcupa.edu by April, 27 midnight.
