THE CIRCUIT Pit lane speed limit for all sessions is 35 mph. The Control Line, used for timing, is at Start/Finish Burnouts and practice starts are not allowed in Pit Lane. You may do practice standing starts from the Pit Exit during practice and qualifying. Follow directions of the Pit Exit marshal. If you have mechanical problems, which may affect the racing surface or the session, leave the circuit when it is safe to do so and park in a safe area. In all cases keep clear of the racing line. Competitors must not cross the line which separates Pit Exit from the racing circuit. Competitors are required to give each other ‘racing room’. Contact with another competitor is to be avoided. PRACTICE AND QUALIFYING Access to the Pit Lane and the circuit is via the Pre-Grid staging area. FINAL DETAILS WILL BE ISSUED AT THE DRIVERS’ BRIEFING At the beginning of Practice and Qualifying sessions, cars will be dispatched from the Pre-Grid to the Pit Exit 5 minutes prior to the start of the session and released from there when the circuit opens. If you wish to slow to get a clear lap, this must be done without hindering other competitors in any way. Weaving using the full width of the track is not permitted. Pit Exit will be closed at the 1 Minute Remaining warning to expedite clearing the circuit. At the end of each session competitors will receive the checkered flag, slow down, complete a final lap and enter Pit Lane. Cars will be directed to the Paddock or Parc Fermé as required. The Qualifying session will set starting positions for the first race of the event. Qualifying for the second race will be by the fastest lap times in the first race. Competitors are reminded that if a fast lap time is set whilst having exceeded the track limits then the lap time may be removed. Race Control will communicate this to the competitor’s team. RACES All races are by time, not laps. Most races have rolling starts but some have standing starts – be sure to check which applies for your race. Cars will be pre-assembled as before and then enter the circuit into the Pit Lane.. Once cars are assembled and the official count down has been undertaken, the Formation Lap will begin. Please keep the Formation Lap as tight and as quick as possible. Any car that fails to maintain its position during the Formation Lap must not overtake or seek to resume its original starting position. Any car that fails to maintain its position during the Formation Lap must not overtake or try to resume its position and must take position at the back of the field. Other cars shall not advance or attempt to fill empty positions. WCV Competition Department Page 4 Peter Roberts | Chief Steward | 14 June 2016 v1-2 Road America Pre Event Drivers’ Briefing Notes June 23rd – 26th 2016 GT/GTA Rounds 12&13, GTS/GT Cup Rounds 11&12, TC/TCA/TCB Rounds 7&8 4.05 4.06 4.07 5.00 5.01 5.02 5.03 5.04 5.05 6.00 6.01 6.02 For the rolling start races, at the end of the Formation Lap if the cars are formed correctly the Pace Car will enter the Pit Lane and the leading car will set the pace at 50-55mph. A Green Flag signifies the start of the race. Racing begins throughout the field at that time. Please note that the Acceleration Zone cones are no longer used. Any move that is reactive to a following car or cars attempting to pass will be deemed as blocking. Maneuvers liable to hinder other drivers, such as deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or other abnormal change of direction, are prohibited. At the end of the race competitors will receive the checkered flag, complete a final lap at less than race speed and enter pit lane. The pit out official will direct cars to the paddock or Parc Fermé as required. FLAGS For complete flag signaling information and illustrations, consult the Flag Signals section of the Sporting Regulations (pages 22 & 23). Drivers are reminded that yellow flags are a warning of danger and mean that there is a car stopped beside or partly on the track. Drivers are to reduce speed and be prepared to change direction if necessary. Overtaking is forbidden. Double Yellows are used for a Full Course Caution and mean that there is car wholly or partly blocking the track and possibly with marshals working on or besides the track. Drivers must reduce speed significantly and be prepared to change direction or stop. Overtaking is forbidden. Passing is prohibited from the ‘plane’ of a yellow flag across the track until the ‘plane’ of a following green flag is reached. If a pass is inadvertently completed, the driver may give the position back to avoid penalty. You are reminded that if waved yellow flags are shown at the start then this is to signify that a car has stalled or is moving very slowly – it is not a Full Course Yellow. Cars that are likely to be overtaken during the race must use their mirrors and take appropriate action to avoid disrupting the racing of the leaders. SAFETY CAR The Safety Car will be deployed as required to neutralize the race while an incident is resolved, entering the circuit from the Pit Lane to pick up the lead car. All cars shall gather in single file running order behind the Safety Car. When the incident is resolved, the lights on the Safety Car will be switched off and the Safety Car will exit the circuit into the Pit Lane. All cars shall remain in single file running order and maintain 50 – 55 mph until the Green Flag is displayed. Racing resumes throughout the field when the green flag is shown.
