Press Release BERLIN UP! (PDF, English)
Berlin, 04.10.2011
CREATE BERLIN e.V. – CREATE BERLIN x Qubique: BERLIN UP!
CREATE BERLIN x Qubique: BERLIN UP!
CREATE BERLIN, the only interdisciplinary designer's network from Berlin, is proud to
present a selection of their members at the premiere of "Qubique - Next Generation
Tradeshow", taking place in Berlin's Tempelhof Airport.
In one of the former workshops inside the hangars, seven designers set up a 140 sqm
showcase of their latest works and prototypes. The participating designers are: Flip
Sellin/Coordination, Daniel Wahl/weltunit, Studio Ulrich Merz, Konrad Isler, Sebastian
Scherer Studio, David Laudermilch and dan pearlman.
The design of the exhibition follows a clear concept: two distinct shapes relate to each other
and structure the space into two important areas: a platform for products – a black
pedestal - and a platform for communication – a long stretched table, the surface made of
typical Berlin Altbau floorboards. The design concept was developed by the core team
consisting of Flip Sellin/Coordination, Daniel Wahl/weltunit and Ulrich Merz.
The exhibition space is kindly provided with friendly support by the organizers of Qubique –
Next Generation Tradeshow.
CRNKL!
The BERLIN UP! exhibition is also the launch event for the lampshade CRNKL! - the
network's first product design edition.
The team of four designers, Flip Sellin/Coordination, Martina Zeyen/Create Berlin, Daniel
Wahl/weltunit and Ulrich Merz, have developed this rather conceptual object to be available
for the first time at the Qubique - Next Generation Trade Show in a limited edition of 100
pieces.
CRNKL! is not a designer lampshade in a classical sense but aims to challenge its future
owner to become the designer themselves. A scarf-size piece of recyclable spunbounded
fabric is decorated with a grid of 36 small magnets. These allow the users to decorate the
lampshade around every existing luminaire in whatever way they chose. The only
requirement is the use of luminaires with low heat emission. The rather cold light of energy
saving lightbulbs is transformed into a warm, soft glow through the lampshade's fabric.
Like in every network, it is also possible to connect multiple CRNKL!s together to form a new,
larger object from the sum of its parts. Long tubular lights can thus be used for illumination
just as well as LED fixtures - on their own or combined in larger groups. CRNKL! works
without any wiring or fixture of its own and can thus be packed in a small, delivery-friendly
format.
The product will be available during the opening times of BERLIN UP! in Hangar 6, Room
SR1 - and inside the Qubique gift shop; also, ordering via email will be possible at the
Create Berlin website.
Reduced Limited Edition Price: 39,90 Eur, only from 26 - 29 October!

Simplicity without being simple.
This defines his way of designing objects quiet well. Each object wants to be designed in the
most simple and intelligent way.
Sebastian Scherer was born in Aachen, Gerrmany. He gratuated in design at the University for
Applied Science Aachen in 2003. Before funding his own Design Studio in Berlin in 2011 he
worked as Interior Designer for several design offices and architects in Berlin such as Graft Architects.
Aluminium Series
The Aluminium Series is comprised of open loops and sleek curves. The significant 8 mm watercut aluminium frame was designed with the objective of folding the 2d cutout into a 3d shape. It´s
elegant , continuous form makes it hard to judge where the material starts and ends.

ROMANTIK LEUCHTE
in seinem Schatten so manchen süßen Traum.

Three in One not only provides a great atmosphere, but also a tray for glasses and convenient
storage space for books or newspapers. This floor lamp is created for an individual and flexible
lifestyle.
In between/ Sideboard
This sideboard is inspired by modern bridge construction. Distinctive pillars made of oak support
the filigree and cantilevered shelves. The lightweight and open design enables flexible and convenient usage. Additional boxes provide orderly space-saving devices.

COORDINATION is a bureau for design and architecture with offices in Shanghai and Berlin.
We are specialized in creating high impact environments in brand and exhibition design and run
an in-house product design studio. Driven by the quest for fresh ideas and extraordinary solutions, COORDINATION is a concept laboratory, a bridge between creative energy and professional realization. We think strategically, design passionately and plan reliably.
LEAN OAK TABLES
are a result in shape of a set of tables after a quest for a lean production principle: with methods
of traditional craftsmanship an oak leg is wedged to a hexagonal oak board to become a structural entity. Multiple entities, three at least, join to become a table. The slanted legs, chosen for
structural reasons, create a table of which the single piece seems to lean against the others. The
table is available in two different sizes to allow playful combinations.
