This year the sports will include: basketball, soccer, sevens rugby, Rippa rugby, uni-hockey and netball. Parents are welcome to support the students by watching from the sidelines. You will need to provide your own transport, however. The day begins with a powhiri and ends with the announcement of who wins the trophy. Students and teachers to break/eat between games. 1:45pm Meet back in the gym for Prizegiving. Students are reminded to bring lunch and a drink, and their gear for the Mangawhai Sports Exchange. This includes spare shorts and shin pads and boots/sports shoes if required for their particular sport. They also need to bring a towel. They are to wear their school uniform (including a warm jacket) and will be provided with their sports uniform at Mangawhai. Information News and Views Coming Events Tsunami bell (Continuous short bell rings) - Assemble along the grassed area at the front of the school by the crossing (outside the school grounds). From here we cross the road and make our way over the causeway and up the hill. Fire Bell (Usual long single bell ring) - Assemble on the asphalt netball/basketball courts at the front of the school. See you there! Regards With working bees. Dave Bradley Principal Year 3 and 4 Rippa Tournament Wellsford sent 6 teams to the Year 3/4 Rippa Tournament in Kaiwaka. It was a great day and each team played five matches against teams from Managawhai, Mangaturoto, Kaiwaka and Tomarata. It was very encouraging to see some great teamwork, sportsmanship and provided a perfect opportunity to learn the ` game in a fun environment. Well done to all those who participated. LOWER NORTH CROSS COUNTRY Well done to Jackson Brierly, Curtis Osborne and Opal Culver who took part in the Lower North Cross Country competition held recently at Barge Park, Whangarei. A great experience for them and thanks to Mrs Brierly for providing transport on the day. Home Interaction Programme for Parents and Youngsters HIPPY Wellsford is now enrolling for a JULY start. Do you want your child to be prepared for starting school? HIPPY helps parents teach their children skills they need for a successful start at school. All resources are provided along with a tutor. It is free (a koha of $1 is appreciated). If your child is aged between 3 ½ and 4 years old they can join the HIPPY programme. There are many local success stories. Please contact me for more information. SCHOOL UNIFORMS The Uniform Shop is open at the school office at 8.30am each Wednesday morning. (The small size polo shirts have now arrived and may be purchased at the office.) JUNIOR RUGBY This Saturday's Rugby is at Paparoa. Kickoff times are as follows. U7’s at 9.00am, U9’s at 9.45am and U’11s at 10.40am. Please be there at least half an hour before kickoff. Training Thursday 5.00 – 6.00pm. JB5'S verse Mid Northern. Kickoff at 11.00am, playing at Kensington K6. Please be there by 10.00am. We will meet at the Community Centre at 9.00am.
