OVERVIEW
Panama is known for some of the best big-game fishing in the world; it’s a true
Hemingway-esque experience. Coiba National Maritime Park, coupled with Hannibal
Bank and Motuosa, provide world-class fishing without the giant fishing boats that use
purse seine nets to drag up the whole ocean. Television crews from ESPN and other
international TV stations are often spotted, as they – along with fishing enthusiasts –
appreciate the productive and thriving giant fish that often frequent this area.
FISH ISLAS SECAS
Whether your preference leans toward inshore or offshore,
fly-fishing or conventional, Islas Secas is renowned as a fishing
destination. The resort is centrally located, providing anglers with
quick access to where the fish are biting. Here, fishermen can spend
more time to reel-in the “big” ones, and less time traveling to find
these amazing catches. The diversity and size of fish in these waters
is remarkable, and noted throughout the fishing community.
Top fishing spots for guests of Islas Secas include:
• Hannibal Bank – Dedicate a day at sea and expect to catch one
or more of these magnificent species: marlin, pacific sailfish,
tuna and dolphin.
• Islas Montuosa – Located south of Islas Secas, this island
surrounds fishermen with a castaway vibe and gorgeous views.
Expect to reel in billfish or elephantine tuna as these big game
fish are always biting and thrive in this deep-water paradise.
Where the fish are biting you are likely to run into the resort’s own
fishing guide, Carter Andrews, who has developed inshore and
offshore fishing programs that entice even the most finicky anglers.
DIRECTOR OF FISHING
Carter Andrews, the resort’s Director of Fishing, is a celebrated
fisherman and thought of by many as a fishing savant. Although
he is fearless in the pursuit of his catch, he always takes a zen-like
approach to his craft. He has been known to catch 500-pound fish
with such finesse that it appears as if he’s reeling in a small grouper.
If you’re a fishing enthusiast, Andrews’ name has undoubtedly
come up in conversation, and you’ve probably seen him on the
cover of your favorite fishing magazine or in a cameo on ESPN.
Most importantly, if you want to land a “big” fish, it’s best to have
Andrews by your side.
