Get to Your Destination
Reliably by Train
Start your trip by boarding a train! From stations all over
Germany and many cities in other European countries,
every day there are more than 400 trains that will take you
straight to Frankfurt Airport. By taking advantage of them,
you can almost start your vacation or business trip when
you step out your front door. It’s extremely easy to transfer
from a train to a plane or vice versa – the railway and flight
schedules are excellently coordinated with one another.
ICE, Regio, S-Bahn – They All Stop Right at the Airport
The choice is yours: every day of the week, more than 170
ICE and IC trains stop at Frankfurt Airport’s long-distance
train station. From Cologne or Stuttgart, the trip takes only
an hour – it can’t get much faster than that. In addition,
more than 220 regional trains connect the airport with
towns and cities in the German states of Hesse, RhinelandPalatinate, and Bavaria. And to top it off, suburban (S-Bahn)
trains to and from downtown Frankfurt and destinations in
the Rhine-Main region leave every 15 minutes.

Airlines with AiRail Check-in offer

How you benefit from
AiRail Check-in:
What to keep in mind about
the AiRail Service:
– You can check your luggage right after arriving by train
– It’s only a few steps to the AiRail check-in counters
– You start your trip in a relaxed mood
– You have more time to enjoy the airport’s rich offerings
You’ll find the AiRail Terminal in the passageway that
connects the long-distance train station with Terminal 1
– Check in at least 15 minutes before your train leaves
– Carry your bags onto the train
– After arriving at the long-distance train station at the
airport, walk to the AiRail Terminal to drop off your bags.
You must do this no later than 40 minutes before your
flight departs.
Simply follow the signs for “AiRail Check-In” or “AiRail
Terminal”. Check-in is possible there until 60 minutes
before departure, and the counters are open daily from 7
a.m. and 9 p.m. (except for the Lufthansa counters, which
close at 8 p.m.). We recommend that you allow enough
time to complete the check-in procedure. When landing
again at Frankfurt Airport after your trip, you pick up your
luggage in the usual way at the terminal’s baggage claim,
just follow the signs (except passengers of Lufthansa
AiRail Service, see next chapter).
The Lufthansa AiRail Service also works in the opposite
direction. At the airport where you begin your trip, you can
check in all the way to Düsseldorf, Cologne, or Stuttgart
and receive your train ticket there as well. After landing in
Frankfurt, follow the exit signs and then head for the AiRail
Terminal. You pick up your luggage from the exclusive
baggage claim and take it through customs there.
More information on Lufthansa’s AiRail Service is available at www.frankfurt-airport.com, www.lufthansa.com, and
www.bahn.com.
Lufthansa AiRail Service
If you’re traveling to Frankfurt Airport by ICE train and will be
departing on a Lufthansa flight, you can check in even earlier
at the Düsseldorf, Cologne, and Stuttgart train stations. The
self-service check-in machines there dispense the boarding
passes for your flight. After arriving at the airport’s long-distance train station, you then conveniently drop off your bags
at the Lufthansa counter in the nearby AiRail Terminal
Unfortunately, at this time it is not possible to check in for
your flight at the Siegburg/Bonn ICE train station.

Tips on How to Make the Most
of Your Time at the Airport
– From Armani to Zegna, at the airport you’ll find a huge
range of shops that carry brands from around the world
at fair prices. There are also more than 90 restaurants and
bistros to satisfy any taste. Our Shopping & Dining
Guides help you get your bearings.
Rail & Fly Service of
Deutsche Bahn
Many airlines and travel operators offer Rail & Fly tickets
for Frankfurt Airport. They are a good deal, since they let
you travel to the airport and back again conveniently
and economically.
– Surf the Internet for free at the airport. You can access the
Web for 60 minutes via Wi-Fi in the terminals. If you
don’t have an Internet-capable device of your own, you
can use one of the many stand-up or sit-down terminals
around the airport (for a fee).
– Take it easy in one of the remodeled, comfortable rest
areas at the airport and let the time fly until it’s time to
head for the gate. Or else visit one of the airport lounges.
How you benefit from Rail & Fly:
– You can leave from and return to any of more than
5,600 train stations in Germany
– It’s easy to purchase an e-ticket (electronic ticket)
at any Deutsche Bahn ticket machine
– You can check in and drop off your luggage in
the AiRail Terminal at Frankfurt Airport
(see page 5 for the participating airlines)
– Travelling with kids: There are several play areas in the
terminals for your kids to play and romp in while you
catch your breath. You can also borrow a stroller for your
toddler free of charge at the following locations: in
Terminal 1 at the Service Point in Concourse B (pre security) and at information desk 10 in Concourse B
(post-security), and in Terminal 2 at the Service Point
(pre-security).
Here’s how it works: when booking your flight, you receive
a personal “pickup number” for your trip by train.
You enter this number in a Deutsche Bahn ticket machine
and receive your Rail & Fly ticket. Note: presenting the
e-ticket for your flight together with your pickup number is
not a substitute for your Rail & Fly ticket and does not
entitle you to board the train.
Please also keep in mind that you have to print out your tickets
from 72 hours prior to beginning your outbound or returning
trip. Rail & Fly tickets are only valid on the day of your flight
and the day before (departure) respectively after (arrival).
You’ll find detailed information on Rail & Fly at www.bahn.
de/railandfly. Please acquaint yourself with it. There is also a
list of all airlines and travel operators that offer Rail & Fly.
