Historic Sedgefields Plantation is a one of kind property in the state of Alabama. This 4,257 acre outdoor paradise offers great hunting across the board. The eastern most reaches of Alabama’s famous black belt soils course throughout the property. Deer hunting whether by bow or rifle is exceptional from beginning to the end of the season. Turkeys abound all over the expansive hardwood bottoms and mature upland pine stands. Home to the National Amateur Free-For-All Field Trial much of the property is intensively managed for quail production. Location: Located 1 mile northwest of Union Springs, Alabama. Size: Approximately 4,257 contiguous acres. Structures: Main Lodge, Cedar House, Horse Barn, Dog Kennels, Office, Shop, Maintenance Buildings, Walk-in Cooler, Five-Stand, Shooting range and dozens of shooting houses and tree stands. Water: 135 acre Big Lake, Town Creek, Cubahatchee Creek, and several water holes. Directions: From Union Springs, take US Hwy 29 North less than one mile. The property begins at the intersection of US Hwy 29 and County Road 23. No plantation would be complete without first class facilities and Sedgefields Plantation is no exception. The main lodge is a newly constructed 8,000 square foot masterpiece. Furnished in early American décor the building fits comfortably into the style of a southern plantation. Seven bedrooms along with six and a half bathrooms give plenty of room to spread out and relax. Whether you are out on the back porch enjoying the view of the lake or inside by a roaring fire in the spacious den, luxury surrounds you. The professionally equipped kitchen and laundry/mud room complete with ample space for guns, shell and muddy boots add to the touches of a home any outdoorsman would love. Big Lake, Sedgefields Plantation’s 135 acre reservoir, holds trophy bass, huge bream and crappie. Feeders located around the lake and the stocking of threadfin shad provide a food source to maximize bass production. The marshy upper end of the lake is home to waterfowl during the winter months. Wood ducks, mallards and a variety of species can be harvested. The Cedar House, a 3 BR/ 2BA log home, is perfect for weekend guests or overflow from the main lodge. The large fireplace and cedar walls give the house a warm feel on the coldest of winter days. A five stand sporting clay range is a short walk from both the main lodge and Cedar House, providing hours of enjoyment for the experienced or beginning shooter. A twelve stall horse barn has storage for square bales is in the loft and two tack rooms for the horse and the mule teams. Two large metal maintenance buildings with concrete floors are situated near the barn. The plantation manager’s office is located in the newest of these. Among other amenities include a walk-in cooler/skinning shed, dog kennels and a firing range.
