Medical Gas Pipeline Guidance (HTM02 01)
In 2006 the UK government produced new guidelines in the form of the Health
Technical Memorandum (HTM) 02–01. This guidance details the operation,
management and maintenance of medical gas pipeline systems (MGPS) in
hospitals. This provides a manual for all Quality Control Pharmacists and
Appointed Persons to work from.
The guidelines have placed more emphasis on the verification and validation of the
piped gases to ensure the quality of the gas delivered to the patient. This includes
both monitoring of the plant room and service distribution points as well as at point
of delivery to patients. More information on verification and validation as detailed in
HTM 02-01 is available at www.bedfont.com

Medi-Gas Check G210 - N2O, O2, CO2, CO
The G210 has been specifically designed for the accurate measurement of
N2O, O2, CO and CO2 in one easy to use hand-held monitor. The G210
offers the user a quick verification of gas quality on an easy to read digital
screen, with the additional option of being able to enter specific identification
numbers for certain monitoring points around the hospital. The G210 has
the added benefit of being able to identify contaminants in the piped gas.
Complete with data storage and alarms this monitor is ideal for many of your
MGPS verification and testing requirements. This product measures %N2O,
%O2, ppm CO and CO2, is an easy to use monitor with simple calibration, and
has quick verification of gas quality and impurities

Medi-Gas Check G200 - N2O
The G200 is a low level N2O atmosphesic measurement device. This
portable monitor not only acts as a personal alarm, but will also calculate the
time weighted average (TWA) of an individual’s exposure to N2O. The G200
also acts as a leak detection device and will store up to 1,000 readings to
be used for graphs and data analysis. The G200 is able to provide readings
from 0-1,000ppm in less than 40 seconds and 0-10,000ppm in leak detection
mode, safeguarding both health professionals and patients. This product is
ideal for: dental departments, anaesthetic departments, hospital theatres,
aswell as recovery, veterinary and X-ray departments.

Specifically designed to monitor CO2 with a range of 0-20,000
ppm, the G150 is ideal for all indoor air quality applications. This

Medi-Gas Check G100 - CO2 and more
The G100 is an easy-to-use, handheld CO2 analyser with
increased accuracy in the 0-20 percent range and a bright,
easy to read display. Readings are stable thanks to inbuilt
moisture removal. Timesaving twin-probes check incubator
top and bottom temperatures and difference simultaneously.
Additionally, the increased memory holds 1000 readings. Options
include O2 and/or RH analysis, temperature probes, data logging,
and USB-link software to download, analyse and export data.

Moisture (H2O) and Impurity Detection
Measuring moisture or dew point is intended to identify contamination of the
pipeline system by water1. Bedfont provides a range of portable dew-point
monitoring and impurity detection devices ensuring quality at the point of drying
and patient administration. The HTM 02-01 stipulates that an electronic dew-point
meter should be used in preference to water content measurements2.
Medi-Gas Check MDM300 portable dewpoint detection
The MDM300 is a portable, high-speed
dew-point hygrometer, ideal for fast, accurate
and repeatable testing on the move. The unit is
able to offer more tests per working hour than
any other monitor on the market, with the added
benefit of being able to transmit data through
Bluetooth. The MDM300 is ideal for all your
portable dew point monitoring.

Particulate Matter (PMS-1)
Particulate contamination can occur as a result of building materials, dust and
any foreign bodies entering when installing a new pipeline system or repairing/
maintaining old systems. Also older systems may exhibit particles due to disruption
of the system, such as reverse gas flow, pressure waves or vibration. The presence
of such particles can adversely affect the quality of the delivered gases. Therefore,
tests to confirm their absence are important4.
This test can be carried out using Bedfont’s
Particulate Matter Sampler (PMS) and
specialist particulate membrane filters.

Pipeline Sampling Kit (MEDI-REG-KIT)
As part of Bedfont’s commitment to making verification and validation of MGPS as
quick and easy as possible, we supply a sampling kit for use with all our monitors,
detector tubes and equipment.
This kit comprises of a regulator to ensure the gas flow is passed though the
monitor or detector tube at the correct flow, 5 specialist gas probes, and quick
connect fittings for interchanging between gases.
The HTM 02-01 stipulates that when purging and checking the identity of gases
such as N2O, the gas should be discharged in a manner that minimises pollution
and personnel exposure5. Therefore all Bedfont sampling kits can be provided
with different lengths of exhaust tubing to fit all requirements.

Medi-Gas Check F3004 (MEDIC- AIR)
The F3004 sets new standards in medical air quality instrumentation. The
F3004, combined with Draeger detector tubes,
can establish levels of carbon monoxide,
carbon dioxide, water vapour, oil, nitrous fumes,
and sulphur dioxide, as well as various easily
oxidized compounds via a Polytest.
An inbuilt electronic sensor with digital reading
measures oxygen content, recorded system
pressures, and temperatures.

Medi-Gas Qube Oil Content and Polytest
The HTM 02-01 stipulates that oil content should be tested for all new medical/
surgical compressed air plants before use and on a quarterly basis for existing
plants1. It is also recommended that the use of polytest tubes are used as a
general test for contamination of pipelines2.
