ACA serves students through individual appointments, workshops, classroom presentations, online resources and special events.
Academic and Career Advising is pleased to present our first newsletter of the 2016-2017 year for
first- time Keene State College students. ACA advises students on creating academic plans and exploring career opportunities. We hope you’ll find this newsletter helpful as you navigate your first
semester at Keene State.
If you have any questions about academics or careers, please call us at 603-358-2500.
HAPPENING NOW: REQUIRED ADVISING
COMING VERY SOON
Your Future: A Career, Internship, Graduate School
and Academic Major Fair, will be on Thursday, October
th
13 from 1:00pm-3:30pm in the Recreation Center Gym.
Eighty (80) employers and organizations who are interested in Keene State College students,
for jobs and internships will be attending. Whether you’re a first year student or a graduating
senior, think about the opportunities that come from networking with these organizations! Many
companies are seeking rising sophomores for summer internships, so this is a great time to reach out and
see what might be available to you. Other
opportunities can also come from meeting with
these companies, such as job shadowing and
possible scholarships!
We will be joined by 34 post-graduate
institutions. This is a wonderful opportunity for
many of our upperclassmen and women to look
into advanced education. For example, there will
be post-grad programs, such as direct entry-RN
or Occupational Therapy. This is a great time to
begin to ask what requirements a program is
looking for, and start to develop your focuses
now (even in the first year).
All Keene State College majors will be
represented. If you're undeclared, looking for
a minor or even just want to meet some faculty,
this is the event for you! Now's the time to
interact with faculty, ask questions of students, or
even get the paperwork you need to move
forward with your goals. Take that information
and learn how it aligns with the jobs and
graduate schools you see around you. This
opportunity is extremely important for our first
year students who are part of our Required
Advising project. Getting to know your faculty
early is imperative!
TECHNOLOGY IN ACADEMIC AND CAREER ADVISING
FOCUS2 is an online assessment tool designed to help students determine their academic major and desired career path. The tool uses surveys to assess a student’s interests and aptitudes and help them find
academic programs at KSC and potential career paths that would be a good match. The tool is intended to
be used after students have met with our advisors, not as a standalone tool.
JobWISE is an online career services tool with job and internship listings. Additionally, students can log
into the system to use additional tools such as applying for jobs directly through JobWISE, bookmarking favorite job listings, and referencing our Career Resources Library with helpful information about resumes,
cover letters, and other career-related subjects.
