meet mark mothersbaugh —
myope, singer, visual artist, art rock revolutionary, tinkerer, songwriter,
polymath, visionary.
Born in Akron and best known as co-founder of the New Wave band DEVO,
Mothersbaugh has been making raucous art since before the band’s
inception. His work delivers vital social commentary while exploding
musical and visual boundaries.
An award winning composer, his credits include Wes Anderson films
(Moonrise Kingdom, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic),
as well as Pee Wee’s Playhouse and the hugely successful Rugrats franchise.
This summer, MOCA Cleveland is partnering with Akron Art Museum to
present Myopia, the first retrospective of Mothersbaugh’s work
(May 27–August 28, 2016).
Myopia Mania is coming to Cleveland this summer.

Experience Mark Mothersbaugh performing three Orchestrion songs surrounded by his work. The Orchestrions are signature
hybrid sculptural instruments created by the artist while composing music for Wes Anderson. This intimate, exclusive experience
includes a festive and whimsical dinner and a signed multiple created for this special occasion. (Limited to 75 people)
FRIDAY, MAY 27 | MOCA | VIP SEATING AT PUBLIC CONCERT
5:30 PM PATRON PREVIEW | 7:00 PUBLIC OPENING | 8:15 PARTY ON TOBY’S PLAZA
Mothersbaugh performs live with local musicians playing his 6-sided keyboard and also serves as DJ.
An 8-piece band will also perform songs from Mothersbaugh’s extensive opus.
