O’NEIL’S BUILDING Location: Akron, Ohio Project Cost: $10 Million Size: 100,000 SF Date of Construction April 1999 Owner: City of Akron 166 South High Street Akron, Ohio 44308 Mr. James Weber 330-375-2470 Architect: The V Group Project Features The former O’Neil’s Department Store Building is a historical landmark in Downtown Akron that sat partially vacant for several years after May Company left. In 1996, May Company donated the facility to the City of Akron, and decided to covert the massive building into over 100,000 square feet of new office, retail, and restaurant space. This project also involved the demolition of the back half of the structure, originally used for limited parking, to incorporate a new 675-car parking deck structure.
