Dr. Marion Roberts
Marion K. Roberts is a native of Hutchinson where he was a three-year drum major of the
high school band and for eight years performed with the SkyRyders Drum Corp. He holds
degrees from William Jewell College, Kansas State University and the Doctorate from
the University of Kansas. He has additional studies at the Universities of Texas-Austin
and Colorado-Boulder. Dr. Roberts has conducted bands in Taiwan, Japan, France, the
United Kingdom as well as though out the United States. His Blue Valley North bands
performed at the American Memorial at Omaha Beach as the only civilian ensemble at
the 50th Commemoration of the D-Day invasion. They since have performed twice in
Washington D.C. at the memorial to the veterans of World War II and in Port-en-Beson,
France for the 60th Anniversary of D-Day.
He is a member of the Legion of Honor from the John Philip Sousa Foundation, Phi Beta
Mu Honorary, Kappa Kappa Psi Band Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity and Kappa Alpha Order. He
is past president of the Kansas Bandmasters Association and the 2012 Outstanding Kansas Bandmaster. Dr. Roberts
has served as Assistant Director of Bands at K-State, Assistant to the Director at K.U., Director of Bands at Baker
University where he also served as Chairperson of the Department of Music and has just retired after twenty-eight
years as Director of Instrumental Music Activities at Blue Valley North high school. He is married to his high school
sweetheart Marcia. They have two adult sons, Seth and Spencer. Their also enjoy two long-haired miniature Dachsunds,
Tucker and Elliott.

Mr. Dennis Fisher
Dennis Fisher is the Conductor of the Symphonic Band, Associate Director of Wind
Studies at the University of North Texas, and Professor of Music in Conducting and
Ensembles. A Kansas native, he has been a member of the faculty since 1982.
Fisher has a wide variety of experience and expertise as a conductor, arranger, clinician,
and consultant. He has served throughout the United States along with international
appearances in Thailand, Japan, Great Britain, Europe, Scandinavia, Canada, Greece,
Brazil and Russia. Fisher currently serves as principal guest conductor of the Volga Band,
Professional Wind Band in Saratov, Russia.
Fisher has recorded extensively on the Mark, Klavier, G.I.A. and Eurosound labels with
the University of North Texas Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony. He is Co-Author of
Teaching Music Through Performance in Beginning Band, Volume 2, and has been a contributing author of teaching
guides for the series. He serves as recording and editing producer of the Teaching Music through Performance in Band
series compact disc recordings, and producer of Volumes 1, 2 and 3 of the Master Conductor DVD series, published
and distributed by G.I.A. Publications. Fisher and the CD recordings of the UNT Symphonic Band have received entry
nominations for Grammy Awards over five times.
Fisher holds professional memberships in the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association,
the College Band Directors National Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He has been honored by being elected
to membership in the prestigious American Bandmasters Association and with invited membership in Phi Beta Mu
National Band Fraternity. He is a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and is PastPresident of the Southwest Division of the College Band Directors National Association.
In 2008, Fisher was awarded the Gagarin Medal of Honor from the Society of Cosmonauts of the Russian Federal Space
Agency. He has also been honored by being awarded the Meritorious Achievement Award from the Texas Bandmasters
Association for contributions to the field of music education and band. Other honors include twice being named “Top
Prof ” by the Mortarboard Society at U.N.T., a recipient of the University of North Texas Community Award, and
named to Who’s Who in America in 2010.

Russell E. Berlin JR
Conductor Russell E. Berlin, Jr. is active as a clinician and adjudicator in the Midwest. He
was an instrumental music instructor in the Lee’s Summit School District from 19691999,
working at the elementary and secondary levels. During his tenure, Mr. Berlin built the
national reputation of the Lee’s Summit orchestral program. Under his direction, ensembles
performed for the Missouri Music Educators’’ Association, the Midwest International
Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, and the Music Educators’ National Conference.
Mr. Berlin’s orchestras have performed at Carnegie Hall and the International Youth and
Music Festival in Vienna, Austria. Mr. Berlin has received many honors, including the
Excellence in Teaching Award given by the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, the
Missouri School Music Educator of the Year Award given by the Missouri Chapter of the
American String Teachers Association and the Silver Shoe Award given by Lee’s Summit
North High School for significant contributions to the students and staff of Lee’s summit North High School.
Mr. Berlin earned a bachelor of music education degree from Kansas State University and master of music education
from Kansas University. He competed advanced orchestral training at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance.

B r a d l e y K au f f m a n
Bradley Kauffman teaches courses in music theory and conducting and conducts the
Hesston College Bel Canto Singers. A native of Ohio, he taught vocal and instrumental
music in Iowa and Indiana before moving to Kansas in 2007. Under his direction,
Hesston College choirs have performed in 22 states, completed 4 European tours, and
were selected to perform at the 2012 Kansas Music Educators’ Association in-service
workshop. Mr. Kauffman earned a B.A. in music education from Goshen (Ind.) College
and an M.A. in choral conducting from the University of Iowa (Iowa City), where he
studied under Dr. Timothy Stalter. His interest in composition led him to study with
Alice Parker and Jeffrey Jacob. Mr. Kauffman accepts invitations to speak on topics of
music education and church music and is active as a guest conductor and clinician. He
lives in Newton with his wife, Renee Kanagy, daughter, Lucca, and son, Rowan.

Tom Wine is Professor of Music Education and Director of Choirs at Wichita State
University. Recipient of the 2009 WSU President’s Distinguished Service Award as well
as the 2009 Burton Pell Award from the Wichita Arts Council, Wine is editor of the
book, Composers on Composing for Choir. Wine is past-president of Kansas ACDA
and currently serves as the Youth and Activities R&S board member for KCDA. His
choirs have appeared at KMEA nine different times as well as Carnegie Hall in 2009.
Wine has conducted district and All-state choirs in Kansas, Florida, Oklahoma, Missouri,
Alabama, and South Carolina. On three different occasions he led choirs on trips to
Europe with the Kansas Ambassadors. He directs the Chancel Choir at Eastminster
Presbyterian Church.
