Step 4 – Position Templates
Part B – Embroider the Designs
Using the templates prepared in the software lesson,
position the paper templates on the runner.
Use the hole cut in the center to line up with the
center chalkline. Tape the templates on each side
as you progress. Rearrange spacing if necessary for
even coverage.
Step 1 – Hoop the fabric
Begin in the center and then work out in each
direction. Use the crosshairs and the edge of the
decoration on the runner to assist in hooping
straight.
Step 2 – Stitch the designs
Load the design into the machine. Position hoop on
the machine and move the hoop so the needle is
over the center of the design. Cover with a piece of
Water Soluble topper. Press Go!
When all templates have been positioned, mark
both cross hairs through the hole.
Remove templates and set aside.
Repeat the above step until all designs have been
completed. When the design is complete, remove
from the hoop and place a damp washrag over the
design areas and wait for several seconds. Remove
the excess stabilizer.
Wash the runner to remove the remaining stabilizer
and topper. Press. Starch if desired.

Part C – Add ribbon and floss
Step 2 – Attach the Backing
Finish one raw edge of each width by folding under
¼”, then press, and repeat. Stitch close to folded
edge. This creates the center overlapping edges of
the pillow back.
Overlap the finished ends by 2” and baste. Fold
under ¼" around all four sides and press. Pin backing to
runner. Stitch just outside of the trim line all the way
around with thread to match the runner or invisible
thread.
Step 3 – Stuff the pillow
Step 1 – Insert ribbon
Stuff the pillow with fiber fill or batting through
the back opening.
Thread the upholstery needle with the blue ribbon.
Thread through the large holes; alternate going
over and then under. Make you the runner hasn’t
been gathered any, then tie the loose ends when
complete.
Step 2 – Insert floss
Thread the upholstery needle with six strands of
floss. Pull the raw ends to meet each other so that
the thread will with 12 strands.
Weave the floss through the openings alternating
every other hole until completely around.
Then weave the floss through again, reversing the
up and down from the previous stitching. In other
words, take the thread back through the hole; if it
went down the first time, it goes up this time.
This gives the floss a brick effect.
Complete the other section of trim in the same way.
Part D – Make the Pillow
Step 1 – Cut backing fabric
Measure the back of the runner to the flanged edge
both length and width. Add 1” to the width.
(For a 12” width, cut the fabric 13”.) Divide the length
in half and add 4”. (If the length is 32”, the cut length
is 20”. Cut two pieces this size (14” by 20”).
