to avoid a $50 late fee. NO EXCEPTIONS.
** Reminder** Any angler who plans to have a non-competitor
fishing with them during official practice MUST identify that
person on the registration form 30 Days prior to the first day of
competition in order to allow time to review and approve or deny
the request. Please see the 2016 LBAA rules regarding who is
allowed in the boat during official practice.

TOURNAMENT HIGHTLIGHTS
Lake Hartwell - April 15 & 16
Congratulations to Pam Martin-Wells of Bainbridge, GA for her first place finish with a
two-day total of 26.10lbs. Just behind her, with 25.38lbs, was Centre, AL pro Lisa Johnson.
Amanda Godfrey, from Candler, NC, finished in third place with 18.66lbs.
Lynda Gessner took the Big Fish award with a 5.72lb lunker and Robyn Cook, in her first
LBAA tournament, took the top Rookie award.
All seventeen pros were able to bring fish to the scales, 118 fish in all, with a total weight
of 228.07lbs.
All of the co-anglers were able to bring fish to the scales as well. Congratulations to
Bonnie Ward of Snohomish, WA, for her first place finish with a two-day weight of 13.88lbs.
DeAnna Lovvorn, of Bradyville, TN, with a 3 fish limit each day, finished second with 12.06lbs.
Glyn Ellen Valentine, from Benton, KY, as able to grab the number 3 spot with 11.94lbs.
ANGLER HIGHLIGHTS
Missouri Pro Angler Leslie Anderson
My name is Leslie Anderson and I hail from St. Louis, Missouri.
My first experiences fishing, when I was 6 or 7 years old, took place on
beautiful Guntersville Lake in Alabama where my mom's family had a
cabin. Oddly, the first bass I caught was using a technique called "bass
buggin'", where one uses a Hula Popper on a fly rod. To this day, top
water techniques remain one of my favorites. I have fished off and on my
whole life and always dreamed of competitive bass fishing.
In 2004, I joined a local womens' club here in St. Louis, Gateway
Bass'n Gals, and that started me on my journey. For 10 years, I have
been learning the ropes of tournament fishing as a Co-Angler and a Pro. I've had a couple of
great years in my club, and during the WBT days, I participated in several tournaments as a coangler. I was a nervous wreck! After the LBAA formed, I competed in several tournaments as a
co-angler and several as a pro. On the pro side, my best finish was a 5th place on Ray Hubbard in
Texas..... but I was in 1st place for one day. What a thrill!!!
I retired almost 2 years ago, after 28 years as a high school English teacher and coach,
which allowed me the freedom to go full time as a pro on the LBAA Tour. I had a decent year
with a 4th place finish on Kentucky Lake and qualifying for the Classic, but I still have a long
way to go. I use to be a full throttle Zoom plastics girl, but I have learned to love almost every
technique. I am an avid golfer and a fanatical St. Louis Cardinals fan. I am married and have two
furry, four-pawed kids, Greta and Simon.
My advice to any woman considering competing in our tour is FIGHT THROUGH
YOUR FEARS! I have been a Co and a Pro and I understand the anxieties of both. You don't
have to have a fancy boat or a fancy shirt....all you need is a little courage, a desire for adventure,
and a love for the sport. We are all here for you!
Tennessee Co-Angler Deanna Lovvorn
I started fishing with my husband 3 years ago. Most of the time, I
would fish a little while and get bored. Just to have something to do, I
would read. On a trip to Lake Guntersville, things changed! I started
catching a few and then set the hook on a nice fish. It was at that point
that I began to understand what fishing was all about and I was hooked!
Not long after that, I met Martha Goodfellow (SC Lady Pro) at the Bass
Pro Shop in Leeds, Alabama (2014). “That was all she wrote.” We
emailed a few times and I signed up to fish my first LBAA tournament on Old Hickory, in my
home state of Tennessee. I did not do well in that tournament, but I didn’t give up. I went on to
Kentucky and just kept at it. I love fishing with the ladies of the LBAA.
My husband and my friends at work, along with my good friend and fellow LBAA
angler, Angela Mayo, are the ones I credit with being the most influential with my bass fishing. I
am proud that I have such a wonderful relationship with my husband who wants to take me
fishing. Most men fish to get away from their wives, mine wants me along.

2016 will be my 3rd year fishing with the LBAA. My goals for this year are to have a 1st
place finish, improve my techniques, become a better fisherman and, hopefully, find more
sponsors.
My favorite bait and technique is Texas Rigged finesse style with a Rage Tail Crawfish.
This is my go to bait when all else fails. However, my biggest bass to date was caught on a lazy
afternoon, just out fun fishing, on a DT6 Rapala black/silver. It weighed in at 5.12 lbs. Although
that’s not a monster, it is my goal to beat.
One thing I would like to share with other anglers is to take advantage of all learning
opportunities. Every time I go onto the water with someone I watch; I am like a sponge. The
women I get to fish with are my teachers and the water is my classroom. Be patient in fishing,
it’s called fishing for a reason not catching.
My husband gave me my motto last year. “Improvise, Adapt and Overcome.” That is
what you have to do in the back of the boat. You never know exactly how you will be fishing or
what conditions you have to face. Always be prepared for anything.
My wonderful husband, Roger, and I have 3 grown children with 1 granddaughter and 3
more grandchildren on the way (update - two of those are here now!).

Angler’s Corner
Pro angler Pam Ridgle shares one of her most memorable fishing
moments:
Joey and I had been fishing the season with the Fishers of
Men. It was the last tournament of the season. I had been out of
town fishing with LBAA. This was when the ladies fished Thursday
and Friday. I left South Carolina after the tournament that Friday
night and headed home to fish this FOM with Joey the next day. I
made it home about the time to go fishing with him. I had a travel
partner with me that alternated driving with me so I could get home in time. I was exhausted
after fishing all week and then driving 14 hours to get home.
I met Joey at the launch and we started that beautiful Saturday morning fishing our local
Lake Palestine. If you have the passion for fishing, you know what I am talking about. Even
with the passion and love for fishing, I had been gone away from home for a week. As we were
fishing and not getting any bites, I began to think about all the things I needed to be doing since I
had been out of town for a week. I had laundry to do, a boat to unpack, a truck to clean. I had
not seen my boys in a week. All of these distractions were running through my mind and it was
mid-morning and we had not caught a fish. I was discouraged, tired, and just was not in to
fishing on this beautiful spring morning. As Joey made the statement "Let’s move to a different
spot” I had been fighting saying these words to him but I finally said it: “Joey I’m really
exhausted, I have so many things I need to be doing. I am not serving our team justice”. I told
him to just take me back to the ramp. I told him that he could continue to fish without me and
finish the day. Joey said "I am not taking you to the ramp. We are a team we have to do this
together”. He said “Let’s go to a different spot”. I reluctantly said OK despite the exhaustion
and the frustration of no fish in the boat and its 10:00am.
We did move to a different spot. I had made a few casts and then all of a sudden I got a
bump on my line. It felt like a bream, and then all of a sudden I felt the pull of something
different than a bream. My heart starting racing at that intense moment filled with fear as I felt
the pulling of my drag and the heaviness in my line. I knew it was a big fish. I was, in a louder
voice, telling Joey to get the net! As he netted the fish, my exhaustion and worries of getting my
laundry done, boat unpacked, and going home ended. I was revived and then on the search for
the next keeper. We finished the day and ended up with only 4 keepers. The big fish was 8lb
and Team Ridgle ended up with big bass of tournament and 1st place! It was a great day on the
water and a day I will never forget. I did learn a lesson from this and that is never give up and
always give 110 percent in whatever is your passion. The game can change in only a matter of
minutes. Always keep your game face on and never quit!

Boaters – don’t forget to order your Gator Grip Golden Rule (GG-51) to measure fish that fall in the “slot”. Anglers
may not keep fish that are between 14” and 18”. To address this, we are going to allow angers to count fish in the
slot by using a paper option for “weighing” those fish. If you do not have this approved Golden Rule in the boat,
you will not be able to measure fish in the slot to be added to your total weight.

Example:
#1 - Angler catches a fish that is 17 ½ inches long. Because of the slot size, the angler may not bring that fish to the
weigh in. For this tournament, you may measure that fish on the approved Gator Grip Golden Rule and write that
measurement in the Note column on the weigh slip you will be given at the briefing meeting. Also record the
pounds and ounces from the Golden Rule on the weight slip. Return the fish to the water as soon as you measure
and record the length.
# - 2 Angler catches a 13 7/8 in fish. Keep this fish and bring it to the weigh in.
# - 3 Angler catches an 18 1/8 in fish. Keep this fish and bring it to the weigh in.
#4 - Angler catches 16 in fish. Because of the slot size, the angler may not bring that fish to the weigh in. For this
tournament, you may measure that fish on the approved Gator Grip Golden Rule and write that measurement in the
Note column on the weigh slip you will be given at the briefing meeting. Also record the pounds and ounces from
the Golden Rule on the weight slip. Return the fish to the water as soon as you measure and record the length.
#5 - Angler catches an 18 ½ in fish. Keep this fish and bring it to the weigh in.
#6 - Angler catches a 15 in fish. Because this is the 6th fish, fish #2 will be culled and replaced with #6. Fish #2
should be returned to the lake and #6 recorded on the paper slip.

The Lady Bass Anglers Association Tournament Season will consist of five regular season events.
Angler of the Year Awards points will be based on your three highest point totals
from the four events. Angler’s three highest finishes during the regular season will count toward
qualifying for the Lady Bass Classic. Any angler winning a tournament during the season will
automatically qualify for the Lady Bass Classic as long as they fish at least three of the four regular
season events.
