Equipment
Generators
Generators from 30KVA up to 350KVA
are housed in robust steel canopies
and contain fork pockets, lifting eyes
Generators from 500KVA up to
1250KVA are housed in 20’ ISO
standard containers
Suitable for low / high ambient
temperatures and harsh environments
Dual frequency capable – 50 or 60
cycles
Power Generation Equipment
6 x 1MW units combine to provide
5 MW of continuous temporary
power
HV Transformer
HV supply

Typical 6 Pack Power Project (5 MW)
Benefits to the mining customer
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Low installed capacity cost per KW
No expenditure on capital equipment
Availability of power within days of
contract signing
Minimal site preparation
High flexibility for upsizing or
downsizing plant capacity
High degree of reliability
Convenient extendible option –
circumvents long term commitment
Risk mitigation
Mongolia – Early production
Situation – The second largest
copper and gold mine was being
constructed in the Gobi Desert,
Mongolia. With no utility power
available to begin sinking shaft,
underground mining was a
problem.
Solution – Aggreko provided 4MW temporary power
package in a standard 6 pack configuration, five 1MW
units plus HV transformers.
Chile- construction power
Situation – CODELCO’s construction of
one of the biggest copper projects, Gaby
Mine, required temporary power during the
17 months of construction.
Solution – Aggreko presented a power
plant capable of delivering a continuous
power output of 2720kW @ 23kV for all the
17 months of construction.
Australia – bridging power
Solution – Downer RML at Area C Mine, Newman Australia, needed a temporary source of
power until the grid supply could be connected in the area.
Situation - Aggreko supplied a power package of 11MW at 33kV
Guinea – breakdown and maintenance
Situation - Alumina Company of
Guinea needed power to install a new
boiler, deal with a generator breakdown
and an explosion of the existing boiler
Solution - Aggreko provided and installed, in
less than 2 weeks, a power plant supplying
continuous power of 5.95MW / 5.5kV.
South Africa – Wheeling power
Situation – Due to a power crisis in
South Africa in 2008, guaranteed
power was required for a mine
already connected to the grid with no
availability.
Solution – Aggreko supplied a 10 MW plant at
Mossel Bay in a wheeling power agreement. i.e.
Aggreko guaranteed the power to the grid who
in turn guaranteed it to the mine.
Eritrea – base load for gold processing plant
Situation – Due to the remote location of
the mine (300km from the coast) the
short construction timeframe and the
relatively short mine life, the client was
looking for a guaranteed power supply
without having to invest in infrastructure.
Solution – Aggreko supplied a 20 MW plant at
Bisha as the sole source of power to the
processing facility. The initial agreement has an
option to extend on a year by year basis.
DRC – mine construcion and processing plant
Situation – Due to the remote location of
the mine power is required in 3 stages
for construction; for initial production
over the first 2 years and for the main
production where a hydro powered plant
has been planned.
Solution – Aggreko supplied a 2 MW plant at
the mine site for the camp and initial
construction power. This will increase to 11MW
as and when the mining operation is big enough
to require it. Once the HEP plant is installed
and running, the equipment may be transferred
to another site or off-hired.
