Tanya Dennis is one of the Huskers' most experienced and talented players and will be expected to assume more leadership responsibilities for the 2006 season. Dennis naturally assumed this role during the spring season and during the Huskers' seven-game tour of Great Britain last May. Over the past two seasons, the 5-6 midfielder has produced four goals and six assists despite being used primarily as a defensive midfielder. Dennis has few limitations as a player as she combines outstanding speed and strength with excellent technique and has developed into a good reader of the game. The Huskers will need Dennis to be at her best and provide a strong, experienced presence on the field in 2006. 2005 Season Dennis filled a variety of roles for Nebraska in 2005. After earning AllBig 12 honors at defender in 2004, the Huskers hoped to use Dennis' offensive abilities more in 2005. However, three season-ending injuries to defensive starters depleted the backline, forcing Dennis back on defense more than originally planned. After playing as an attacking midfielder and scoring a goal and notching two assists in the first two games of the season, Dennis attacked less, but did record a game-winning assist against Missouri on Oct. 2. Dennis became one of the Huskers' top distributors in 2005, ranking second on the squad with five assists, four more than her previous career total. Dennis scored her only goal of the season from long range in the season opener against Minnesota on Aug. 26. She added an assist against the Gophers to equal her career total. She contributed another assist in the Huskers' next game against UAB and finished the season with three more assists on the year, including a game-winning assist at Oral Roberts on Oct. 14. 2003 Season Dennis spent the early part of the season competing for the Canadian National Team in the Women’s World Cup. Dennis played all 90 minutes in Canada’s first five games as a defender in the World Cup, before suffering a concussion and missing the consolation finals. Dennis and fellow Canadian teammate Brittany Timko made the trip to Chapel Hill, N.C., to play with Nebraska against Duke and North Carolina, but did not rejoin the Huskers again until the weekend of Oct. 24. Dennis played 74 minutes between the two games in North Carolina. Dennis did not play in a game for NU after her return to Lincoln because of the lingering effects of the concussion. High School Dennis did not play high school soccer at St. Marguerite D’Youville. She was a member of the basketball, volleyball and track and field teams. She was also fourth in her region in badminton. She was named to the honor roll for three years. Other Information Dennis was called up to play for the Canadian National Team in the 2003 World Cup just before the Huskers' fall season began. She played all 90 minutes in the first five games of the World Cup before suffering a concussion. She made her debut on the World Cup team on Aug. 31, 2003, in a match against Mexico. Also a starter for the Canadian Under-19 National Team, Dennis has a great deal of international experience. Along with Timko and Sari Raber, 2004 Season Dennis played well in her first full year at the collegiate level, earning Dennis participated in the U-19 World first-team All-Big 12 Conference honors. (Grand Island) 5-4 Forward/Defender Senior #22 Abby Penas >> Second-Team Academic All-Big 12 (2005) >> Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll (Fall: 2003, 2005; Spring 2005) 2006 Outlook Abby Penas (pronounced PEN-yoss) proved a valuable asset in Nebraska’s defensive strategy in 2005. With the loss of several of NU’s starting defenders, Penas will provide much needed experience in that position as a senior. One of just three returning Huskers to earn defensive starts in 2005, Penas will assume more responsibility in her senior year. Since moving to defender in 2004, Penas has started 12 games including nine in 2005. Her aggressive play, combined with her strength, athletic ability and natural attacking skills make Penas well suited to be a Husker defender. Although a move to defender shifted Penas away from her roots as a forward, the Grand Island native is still quick to take the opportunity to showcase her offensive skills. Penas has amassed a total of 11 shots on goal and two assists in her career, including both a shot-on-goal and an assist in 2005. Now an experienced player at both ends of the field, Penas will be looked to for leadership by the younger Huskers on the Nebraska roster in 2006. 2005 Season Penas, who filled in at defender for the first time during NU's postseason run in 2004, was again a key contributor to the Husker defense in 2005. She started the first five games, including playing the full 90 minutes in the season opener against Minnesota on Aug. 26. In addition to the five starts to open the year, Penas tallied four more starts on the season, with her last coming against Oklahoma on Oct. 22. Against the Gophers in the season opener, Penas pushed forward and added an assist on the first goal of the season, marking the second assist of her career. She attempted her only shot of the season against San Diego State on Sept. 6, and fired her first shot on goal of the season against Oklahoma State on Oct. 23. Off the field, Penas earned secondteam academic All-Big 12 honors and a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall and Spring Honor Rolls. 2004 Season Penas was a solid player off the bench in 2004, appearing in 21 of Nebraska's 23 games, including her first career start against Texas in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament on Nov. 4. Penas also started all three of Nebraska's NCAA Tournament games. She logged a season-high 90 minutes against the Longhorns, playing defender for the first time in her career. Although Penas played well in her switch to defender, she showed she still had a hand in Nebraska's offense. In the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Kansas, 2006 Nebraska Soccer Media & Recruiting Guide Penas found Nikki Baker with a long pass to set up the game-winning goal in overtime. The assist was the first of Penas' career. Penas scored the first goal of her career to cap the Huskers' 3-0 victory over Texas Tech on Oct. 15. She attempted nearly three times as many shots in 2004 than she did in 2003. A dedicated player, Penas also earned the Husker Power Award, which is annually presented to the most dedicated weightlifter on the team. 2003 Season Penas saw action in 12 games as a freshman in 2003. She supplied a consistent boost to the Huskers coming off the bench during her rookie campaign. Penas posted a perfect shots-on goal percentage, putting all four of the shots she attempted on goal in 2003. High School The top scorer for Grand Island High School, Penas garnered several accolades during her high school career. She was named honorablemention all-state in 2001 and 2002 and was named to the Class A second team in 2002. Penas contributed 34 goals and 14 assists in her career, with her best production coming as a sophomore, when she scored 12 goals. Her high school team won the 2001 district title. Penas also lettered in basketball and softball for three years. She was named to the All-Nebraska second team in softball in 2000. She also set a Grand Island High School record for single-season assists on the hardwood with 110 and the record for single-game assists with 10. She was also impressive in the classroom, finishing in the top 15 percent of her class. Penas was a member of the National Honor Society. Other Information Penas did not participate in club or Olympic Development soccer. Personal Information The daughter of Darrell and Pam Penas, Abby has two sisters, Andrea, 30, and Ashley, 25, and three brothers, Brandon, 27, Bubba, 23, and Brady, 19. Brandon played baseball for Nebraska from 1999 to 2001. Abby was born on Oct. 19, 1984, in Grand Island, Neb. She is a business administration major. Her all-tournament honor was the second of her career, with her first accolade coming in her freshman season of 2003. Timko missed the 2004 Big 12 Tournament while playing for Canada in the Under-20 World Championship, where she received the Golden Boot Award as the top goal-scorer at the championship. Timko recorded an assist to go along with three goals at Texas Tech in the Huskers' regular-season finale. The assist was her 18th of the season and broke Jenny Benson's school single-season record of 17 set in 1999. Timko notched two assists at the Big 12 Tournament to become the first player in league history to reach the 20-assist mark in a season. At the Big 12 Tournament, Timko made the all-tournament team by scoring one goal and adding two assists for four points in two games. Her assist against Kansas was her 14th game-winning assist of her career, a new Nebraska record. In the NCAA Tournament, Timko scored the only goal in the Huskers' 1-0 first-round victory over Creighton, and added one assist as Nebraska became the first team in 2005 to score more than one goal against eventual national champion Portland in a 3-2 loss. Her goal against Creighton gave her 30 career goals and 30 career assists, making her only the second player in school history to total 30 goals and assists in a career. In Nebraska's first four victories of the season, Timko recorded the game-winning assist. She added her seventh game-winning assist of the season as part of a three-assist effort against Oklahoma State on Oct. 23, to break her own single-season Nebraska record of six set in 2004. She ended the 2005 season with eight GWA. When Timko did not contribute the game-winning assist in the Huskers' first six wins, she added the game-winning goal. Against UC Irvine on Sept. 18, Timko added the game-tying assist before scoring her third goal of the season for the game winner in the Huskers' 2-1 come-from-behind victory. Timko ranked second on the team with three game-winning goals in 2005, and notched either a game-winning assist or the game-winning goal in 11 of Nebraska's 14 victories. 2005 Season Timko led the team with 11 goals, 21 assists and 43 points. The 2004 Big In her final 10 games, Timko scored 12 Player of the Year and third-team NSCAA All-American, Timko played eight goals and notched 10 assists for every minute in 16 of the Huskers' 23 games. A source of both league and national interest, trying to contain Timko is always a major priority in the opposing game plan. With tremendous ball-handling skills, a powerful shot and a proven ability to serve up goal-scoring passes, Timko is a 360-degree threat on the pitch. The 5-7 forward recorded double-digit goals and assists in each of the last two seasons, something never before done at Nebraska, and could repeat that statistic in her senior season. Aiding in that effort is the fact that the Huskers return one of Timko’s favorite targets this season in midfielder Jessie Bruch. Timko added an assist on six of Bruch’s eight goals in 2005, many of which came off set plays where Timko bent a free kick to Bruch for the header. On the scoring front, Timko has developed into a potent goal-scoring weapon. Of her 11 goals in 2005, six were unassisted. Another two of those unassisted scores made the difference in the contest as gamewinning goals, proving Timko’s ability to produce when the game is on the line. One of the most decorated players in Nebraska soccer history, Timko could cement her name in the Husker annals this season by continuing to move up the career record charts. She already ranks in the top 10 in seven categories and tops the list for game-winning assists. Timko is ranked second in career hat tricks behind Kim Engesser and needs three more three-goal games to take the lead. A dominant player in the Big 12 Conference, Timko could become the league’s first women’s soccer player to claim Big 12 Player-of-theYear honors in three consecutive seasons after earning the distinction in 2004 and 2005. Timko matched former Husker Christine Latham (2000, 2001) as the only two players in Big 12 history to earn more than one player-of-the-year award. An international veteran, Timko will resume her responsibilities with the Canadian National team this year as she competes in the World Cup Qualifier this fall. Timko started for Canada at the World Cup in 2003 and pending the team’s qualification for the tournament, could emerge as a leader once again in China in 2007. One of the most decorated players in program history, Timko ranks on the school top-10 list in seven different categories, including game-winning assists where she ranks first and hat tricks where she ranks second. Timko also tied a slew of single-game school records. Her nine points, seven first-half points, three first-half goals, one overtime goal, three first-half assists and three second-half assists all tied for school records. She also ranks sixth on the single-season school chart with 43 points in 2004 and 2005, 10th in goals scored (15 in 2004) and tied for seventh in assists (13 in 2004), in addition to setting the school record for single-season assists (21) and game-winning assists (8) in 2005. A native of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Timko was also very involved with the Canadian National Team. Along with fellow National Team member Sasha Andrews, Timko took advantage of an open date on the Huskers' schedule to play defending World Cup champion Germany in an international friendly on Sept. 4, 2005. Timko earned valuable playing time and her corner kick led to Canada's third goal in an eventual 4-3 loss. 2004 Season In her first full season with Nebraska, Timko enjoyed an incredible year, finishing with 43 points. For her outstanding season, Timko was named the Big 12 Player of the Year and earned third-team All-America accolades. Timko left the Huskers at the conclusion of the regular season to play for the Canadian Under-19 National Team. She finished the season ranked seventh on the NU single-season list for points, 10th in goals scored and tied for seventh in assists. Timko also broke the school record with six game-winning assists in 2004. In NU's first two Big 12 Conference games, Timko scored Nebraska's lone goal in a 1-0 victory over ninth-ranked Kansas on Sept. 24, and scored all three goals in a 2:26 span in NU's 3-2 win over Iowa State on Sept. 26. In that game, Timko set an NU record for shortest span between goals by scoring backto-back goals in just 16 seconds. Against Creighton earlier that week, she continued to excel, notching a goal and an assist in Nebraska's 3-2 come-from-behind victory. For her efforts that weekend, Timko was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and was named to Soccer America's National Team of the Week and Soccer Buzz's Elite Team of the Week for the third time to become the only player in school history to earn three Big 12 Player-of-the-Week awards in the same season. She was also the only player in the country to be named to both the Soccer America and Soccer Buzz national teams of the week three times in 2004. Timko finished the two-game weekend of Sept. 17 with four goals, four assists and 12 points. She tied a school single-game school record 2006 Nebraska Soccer Media & Recruiting Guide Forward Senior with nine points against Northern Colorado on Sept. 17, finishing with three goals and three assists against the Bears. Against Montana two days later, Timko notched an assist and scored the game-winning goal in Nebraska's 2-1 win. Timko put together another excellent two-game stretch the weekend of Sept. 5. Facing a pair of 2003 NCAA Tournament teams, she tallied three assists in a 4-0 win over Eastern Illinois, then added two goals on her 19th birthday in a 3-0 win over Purdue. 2003 Season Timko missed the early part of NU’s season while competing with the Canadian National Team in the 2003 Women’s World Cup. Timko started all six games of the World Cup, playing in both the midfield and on the back line, and contributed one assist in Canada’s fourth-place finish, the best-ever finish by the Canadians in a World Cup. She first joined the Huskers in Chapel Hill, N.C., for NU’s games against Duke and North Carolina, producing a goal against Duke. Timko made her greatest impact in the Big 12 Tournament, scoring two goals against Texas A&M, including the game winner. She was named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team for her performance. Once again proving her value in the postseason, Timko scored Nebraska's only goal in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Portland. High School Timko was named the female athlete of the year in seventh through 10th grades at Centennial, but did not play high school soccer in 11th and 12th grade because of club and national team commitments. As a sophomore, she was the leading scorer in the British Columbia High School Provincial Championships, where she led Centennial to a second-place finish and was named the Rookie of the Year. During her prep career, she also played volleyball and was a starter at point guard in basketball in 10th and 11th grades. She was also an honor roll student. Other Information Timko has had an outstanding career on the international level. She earned her first international cap when she was 16 years old with the Canadian National Team against Japan in the France International Tournament. Timko started next to former Husker Breanna Boyd in all five games of the 2002 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup to help Canada qualify for the Women’s World Cup in 2003. At the FIFA Under-19 World Championship in 2004, Timko received the Golden Boot Award as the top goal scorer in the tournament. Timko played for the Vancouver Whitecaps of the W-League in 2003. She received the Premier’s Athletic Award for Excellence in Soccer in 2001 and was honored in the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame as one of 35 leaders and legends of women in sports in 2002. She was named the B.C. Soccer Association’s Junior Athlete of the Year in 2002. Personal Information The daughter of Kara and Brian Timko, Brittany has two brothers, Clayton, 23, and Brandon, 18. Bruch started 22 games at midfielder in 2003 and another 21 last season, after sitting out 2004 with a knee injury she suffered while competing against the U.S. National Team. Bruch continued to get stronger as the 2005 season progressed, amassing 16 points off eight goals in her sophomore campaign. An intimidating player, Bruch uses her height and strength to overpower opponents. The 5-11 midfielder’s ability to control the neutral portions of the field by winning headers and tackling has resulted in increased possession and goal-scoring opportunities for the Huskers. When Bruch is not creating scoring opportunities for her teammates, she is taking shots herself. Last season, the St. Louis, Mo., native launched an impressive 18 shots on goal and tallied eight scores to rank second only to Brittany Timko for most goals scored in 2005. Because of her aggressive style of play, many of Bruch's goals came off set plays. 2005 Season After missing all of the 2004 season while recovering from off-season knee surgery, Bruch returned in 2005 to bolster a Husker midfield that lost two starters from the previous season. Bruch scored two goals at Colorado on Sept. 23, marking her first goals of the season and the first multi-goal game of her career. Bruch's two goals led the Huskers to a 2-1 victory with her game-winning goal coming in the 82nd minute. Both of her goals were headers off set plays (one corner kick, one free kick). Bruch matched that effort with two goals in the Huskers' loss to Texas A&M in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament. She scored a goal in each half and her second-half goal marked her first of the season that was not scored on a set play. Bruch added the game-winning goal in the Huskers' 3-1 win over Kansas in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament. She finished with three goals and six points at the tournament and was named to the Big 12 All-Tournament team for her efforts. 2004 Season Bruch took a medical redshirt while recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. 2003 Season Bruch was sensational for the Huskers in 2003, leading the Huskers with 19 points. She was named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team for her outstanding play in her first season at Nebraska. The St. Louis, Mo., native produced 19 points on nine goals and one assist on the season. Bruch’s most dramatic goal of the season came against Oklahoma State, when she scored the game winner with just five seconds remaining in regulation, giving NU a 3-2 win. Bruch posted her first game-winning goal in her first official game in a Husker uniform, when she scored an early goal at the 8:33 mark to defeat DePaul, 1-0. The freshman also put the ball in the net against Iowa, Murray State, Texas Tech, Texas and Washington. She was the only freshman to start all 22 games in 2003. Bruch scored her first postseason goal to give the Huskers a 1-0 lead against Washington in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. She also scored with less than eight minutes remaining in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament against Missouri with a header off a corner kick from Jenna Cooper. High School Bruch was named an all-conference, all-metro and all-state player as a junior and senior at Nerinx Hall High School. Throughout her high school career, Bruch played all over the field and spent most of her senior season as a defender. She showed a knack for scoring by putting in the game-winning goal to win the Class 4A district championship, sending her team to the sectional finals in 2002. She was the team captain as a junior and senior, as well as winning team most valuable player awards in consecutive years. She was named the Fox 2 Player of the Week in April 2002. Bruch earned four letters in soccer and was named to the second honor roll for her work in the classroom. Other Information Bruch spent time training with the U.S. Under-19 National Team in 2003. She won five state championships as a member of the Busch soccer club. Bruch served as the team captain for her club team throughout her career starting with her Under-12 season. With two years as a regular offensive contributor under her belt, Hungerford could also see time as a defender in 2006. The Manhattan, Kan., native has shown a determination to become a productive member of the Husker offensive unit. After not scoring a point in her freshman campaign, Hungerford produced a pair of goals against Oral Roberts last season. However, Hungerford spent the majority of the spring season playing as a defender and her versatility will be invaluable to the Huskers in 2006. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Hungerford has also shown a dedication to excellence in the classroom where she has been a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in all four of her semesters at Nebraska and was named a 2005 first-team academic All-Big 12 selection. (Durango) #15 Jessie Goodell >> Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll (Fall: 2005; Spring: 2006) 2006 Outlook Jessie Goodell returns after a solid freshman season that included action in all 23 games. Despite her youth, Goodell shared time with some of Nebraska’s most experienced and talented forwards and ended her debut season with one goal and two assists. Her one goal came in the second-round of the NCAA Tournament against eventual national champion Portland Pilots. Goodell showed in her initial campaign that she possesses excellent attacking skills, is sharp around the box and has an outstanding work ethic. She continued her development this past spring as she scored a number of goals in the Huskers' spring season and Great Britain tour. 2005 Season Goodell saw action in all 23 games as a true freshman in 2005, including 19 contests where she logged at least 25 minutes. As part of a talented 11-player freshman class, Goodell took nine shots and recorded an assist on a Tanya Dennis goal in her first career game against Minnesota on Aug. 26. Goodell was one of the first substitutes off the bench all season and added solid depth for NU. She played a career-high 55 minutes against Kansas on Sept. 30, and recorded the first two shots on goal of her career at Texas Tech on Oct. 30. Including the Texas Tech game, Goodell attacked more toward the end of the season and saw action at forward. At the Big 12 Tournament, Goodell saw action as a forward against Kansas and Texas A&M. Iacchelli started in every game of her freshman year, and tallied 75 or more minutes in 10 games. A three-year member of the Canadian Under-20 National Team, Iacchelli possesses excellent close control and is willing to run all day in her central midfield position, allowing her to play the game with great range. Her ball-winning skills have also improved rapidly this past year. In the spring, Iacchelli focused almost exclusively on her passing and speed of play as she attempts to become a complete central midfielder. Iacchelli demonstrated her aggressive style and internationalcaliber skill on her first collegiate goal, connecting on a diving header on a cross from Aysha Jamani to register a memorable career-opening goal. 2005 Season Iacchelli had a leg up on the 10 other freshmen in the Huskers' 2005 class after enrolling at NU in January and joining the team for the spring season, which included road trips to perennial powers Duke, Florida, North Carolina and Ohio State. Iacchelli also benefitted from extensive top-level international experience with the Canadian Under-20 and Under-19 National Teams. At Nebraska, she scored four goals while starting all 21 games in the midfield. Her nine points ranked second among all freshmen, and she was one of 10 Huskers and three freshmen to score a goal in 2005. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Iacchelli enjoyed a career game against Missouri on Oct. 2. In addition to scoring her third goal of the season, Iacchelli picked up the first assist of her career and finished with a career-best three points. Her latest goal came against Oklahoma State on Oct. 23. Iacchelli's first goal was a highlightfilm finish. Iacchelli took a cross from fellow freshman Aysha Jamani and sent a diving header into the back of the net that capped a 3-1 Husker victory over Rice on Sept. 11. The second goal of her career tied NU's Sept. 18 game with UC Irvine at 1-1. In addition to starting every game of her career, Iacchelli played 75 or more minutes in 10 contests in 2005, including a career-high 110 minutes against Kansas on Sept. 30. For the season, Iacchelli ranked third on the team with 43 shots and fourth with 17 shots on goal. (Shawnee Mission Northwest) #77 Lauren Isenhower >> Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll (Fall: 2005) 2006 Outlook Lauren Isenhower is expected to miss the entire 2006 season after suffering a knee injury while playing in Europe during the offseason. The 5-9 forward was a major contributor for the Huskers as a true freshman in 2005. She appeared in all 23 games for Nebraska and made 18 starts. Isenhower finished her freshman campaign with seven points on two goals and three assists. Isenhower is one of the fastest and most powerful players on the Husker roster. She will use the 2006-07 year to refine her technical skills in the hopes of becoming a terrific all around player for 2007. Isenhower will redshirt during 2006, and is expected to return in 2007 with three season of eligibility remaining. 2005 Season Isenhower made an immediate impact in her first season at Nebraska, scoring two goals and adding three assists, which tied for third on the team. Isenhower was moved to defense after injuries depleted the Huskers' backline, but reappeared at forward against Kansas on Sept. 30, and primarily played up front the rest of the season. In her first game as a Husker, Isenhower scored her first goal, which proved to be the game winner in NU's 3-1 win over Minnesota on Aug. 26. Isenhower then became a distributor in the Huskers' second game, tallying a pair of assists in a 4-0 Nebraska victory over UAB on Aug. 28. The Lenexa, Kan., native was one of the first players off the bench early in the season and provided another excellent offensive option for NU. She earned the first start of her career Sept. 11 against Rice and started every game the rest of the season. Isenhower scored the second goal of her career in the Huskers' 6-0 rout at Oral Roberts on Oct. 14. She increased her role in the offense toward the end of the season, taking as many shots on goal in a four-game stretch from Oct. 2 to Oct. 14 as she did in the first 11 games combined. Offensively, 12 of Isenhower's 23 shots were on goal and her three assists tied for the lead among all freshmen. The 5-9 Shawnee Mission Northwest grad totaled seven points to rank fifth on the team and second among first-year players. Due to injuries in the backline, Isenhower, who recorded the fastest 40yard dash on the team and was known for her physical play, was moved to defender, where she started four games before starting her first game at forward against Kansas. Isenhower's quickness and ability to win balls proved useful in a variety of roles. She also showed the ability to sustain her level of play for long periods of time, playing a career-high 83 minutes against Kansas on Sept. 30. High School Isenhower scored nine goals in 2003 en route to being named Shawnee Mission Northwest’s Player of the Year. Previously, Isenhower earned Best Newcomer, Most Skilled Player and MVP honors. In her final season, she was a co-captain and led the team with 17 goals and nine assists after missing almost the entire 2004 season with an injury. She helped lead Northwest to a 9-6-1 record in her senior season while earning first-team All-Johnson County and All-Sunflower League honors and adding second-team All-Metro accolades. Other Information Isenhower played club ball for the six-time Kansas state champion the Kansas City Dynamos, the same squad as Husker teammate Kellie Jensen. Isenhower was also a three-year member of the Kansas Olympic Development Program and was a member of the Region II team. Jamani started 20 of 23 contests as a freshman, netting seven goals and adding four assists en route to being named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team and earning second-team All-Big 12 honors. Jamani brings a different dynamic to the Nebraska striking corps. While the Huskers typically combine size and skill in routing defenders, Jamani relies on speed and ball control. At just 5-3, Jamani keeps the ball contained on the ground in order to maintain possession and does so with unparalleled success. The speedy Calgary, Alberta, native has tremendous acceleration and is often controlling a pass in one breath and dribbling by an opponent in the next. Jamani’s skills, which she honed as a prominent figure on the Canadian national scene, extend to shot selection. Jamani placed almost 63 percent of her shots on goal in 2005 and the seven shots that resulted in goals came from a combination of hustle and placement. When the open shots are not forthcoming, Jamani creates her own. She has a knack for picking corners or finding lapses in a goalkeepers positioning and uses her speed and stamina to beat defenders for rebounds and loose balls. With a wealth of experience now under her belt, Jamani should help anchor Nebraska’s offensive charge in 2006. 2005 Season Jamani was anything but shy in her first year at Nebraska. She ranked second on the team with 51 shots and 32 shots on goal and tied for second with seven goals. Her 17 points also ranked second on the team and was the most for a freshman since Jessie Bruch totaled 19 points her freshman campaign of 2003. Jamani was honored as a secondteam All-Big 12 selection, as well as being named to the Big 12 AllNewcomer team. In her first postseason action, Jamani scored a goal just 12 minutes into the Huskers' match with Kansas in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament on Nov. 2. The goal was her seventh of the season, a total that tied defender Sasha Andrews for second on the team. Jamani scored two first-half goals in the Huskers' 3-0 rout of Missouri on Oct. 2, marking her second multigoal game of the year. Jamani's two goals tied a career high, while her first goal was her second gamewinning goal of the season. She provided a spark off the bench for the first three games of the season, bursting onto the scene with two goals against UAB on Aug. 2006 Nebraska Soccer Media & Recruiting Guide 28, the first multi-goal game in the history of the Nebraska Soccer Field. That goal also proved to be the first game-winning goal of her career. Her outstanding play earned her the first start of her career against San Diego State on Sept. 6, and she started every game the rest of the season. She added her first career assist against Rice on Sept. 11, and scored the Huskers' lone goal in a 2-1 loss at Purdue on Sept. 16. At Oral Roberts on Oct. 14, Jamani notched her second career assist. She followed that with the first game-winning assist of her career against Oklahoma on Oct. 21. She tied for third on the team with three assists. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Jamani placed an impressive 32 of her 51 shots on goal, including two games with five shots on goal, which tied for eighth place on the NU single-game chart. Jamani also showed the ability to sustain her high-energy level of play. Against Colorado College on Sept. 9, the 5-3 forward played all 90 minutes for the first time in her career. High School Jamani played one year of soccer at Western Canada High School before attending the National Sport School, which did not offer athletic teams. Other Information Jamani is a member of the Canadian Under-19 and Senior National Teams. As a Husker, Jamani joined teammates Brittany Timko, Sari Raber and Tanya Dennis as members of the Canadian Under-19 National Team and Timko, Dennis and Sasha Andrews as members of the Canadian Senior National Team. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Jamani brings a wealth of international experience to Nebraska. She has appeared in 10 games with the senior team, scoring seven goals. At the FIFA Under-19 Women’s World Championship in Thailand in 2004, Jamani teamed up with Timko, Raber and Dennis. She appeared in each of Canada’s four games and scored one goal. In the CONCACAF Under-19 qualifying tournament, Jamani played in all five games of the tournament, scoring five goals. She has scored a total of 18 goals (seven with the senior team, 11 with the Under-19 team) with the Canadian National Teams. She earned another start against Missouri in the next game. Jensen played a career-high 57 minutes against the Jayhawks, 23 more minutes than her previous career high. She continued to emerge through the season, logging a career-best 63 minutes in a non-conference match at Oral Roberts on Oct. 14. Jensen benefitted from being a part of the Kansas City Dynamos club team, which advanced to the national championships the summer before Jensen came to Nebraska. Husker forward Lauren Isenhower joined Jensen on that team. Kirchner spent the majority of the spring playing as a holding midfielder with primary responsibilities of ball-winning and connecting passes. Kirchner is a hard-nosed, aggressive player with good competitive instincts and is a natural communicator on the field. Another major attribute in Kirchner’s game is her intellect and how she uses it to read situations in the game. Kirchner has demonstrated her ability to be a standout in the classroom. In her first year at Nebraska, the Omaha native earned spots on the Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters. 2005 Season Kirchner appeared in eight games for the Huskers in her freshman season. Against Oral Roberts on Oct. 14, Kirchner played a careerhigh 55 minutes and then logged 13 minutes at Texas. She logged a personal Big 12-best 15 minutes at Texas Tech on Oct. 30. Kirchner saw her first postseason action when she entered the game late in the second half against Kansas in the Big 12 Tournament. Against ORU, Kirchner attempted the first two shots of her career, placing each shot on goal. Although she saw limited playing time in her first season, Kirchner played well when she stepped onto the field and could prove to be a key reserve as the Huskers search for depth at the defender position. In 2005, Klages started 19 contests for Nebraska, giving up just 23 goals and posting a goals against average of 1.19. The Coronado, Calif., native has proven her ability to protect the net by posting a total of six shutouts last season, three of which came in consecutive conference games from Sept. 30 to Oct. 7. Klages gained valuable experience on the U.S. Under-20 National Team this past season. Her willingness to take on more leadership responsibilities became evident this past spring and is expected to continue to develop in her sophomore season. At 5-11, Klages has the potential to be among the Husker greats at goalkeeper. She is quick, agile, vocal, explosive and possesses an excellent vertical jump, which she honed as one of the nation's top high school high jumpers. In the offseason, Klages focused on improving her tactical understanding of the position, dealing with crosses and playing the ball at her feet. Klages will clearly be one of Nebraska's most influential players in 2006. 2005 Season Klages split time at goalkeeper with returning starter Katie Wright, but secured the job during Big 12 play and earned starts in Nebraska's final 15 games of the year. Klages recorded three consecutive shutouts in league play from Sept. 30 to Oct. 7, including a double-overtime shutout of Kansas. She posted shutouts in four of six starts to open her Big 12 career. Klages got her career off to a tremendous start, posting her first shutout of the season against UAB on Aug. 28 and extending her career-opening scoreless-minutes streak to more than 150 minutes before allowing the first goal of her career at Big Ten power Illinois on Sept. 2. Klages led the team with a freshman-record 75 saves in 2005. She recorded a career-high nine saves, including several crucial stops, in the 0-0 double-overtime tie with Kansas on Sept. 30. She also tallied eight saves at Texas Tech on Oct. 30. Klages posted a 1.19 goals-against average in her first season. She allowed more than one goal in only three of her 19 career starts.
