P a g e | 33 SHAWANO COMMUNITY MIDDLE SCHOOL PROJECT On November 4 the voters in the Shawano School District overwhelmingly supported the referendum to renovate the middle school. This project includes the replacement of the entire heating and air system as well as needed updates and repairs to selected areas of the building. The staff and students are very excited about this! The project is already under way with the architects working to complete the very detailed drawings and plans that are required to proceed with construction. The timeline for construction to begin includes having all of the sub-contractors and trades selected by March with the actual working beginning around April 1. It will be a busy summer at the middle school as all of the work is to be completed by the start of the 2016-2017 school year. Once complete, the building will be much more comfortable and better able to meet the needs of student instruction, allow for better access to those with disabilities, provide more efficient use of spaces, and improve the safety of all that use the building. Community members that use the building for the many different recreation and educational activities held in the evenings will benefit from this project as well. The heating and cooling of the building will be much improved. Access to the Community Education Office will have its own entrance. Sound dampening panels in the small gym and a makeover in the large gym will create a nicer space for sports activities. I am excited to be a part of this project and look forward to when we can unveil the results to the public.
