PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
It was a smooth opening for the 2015-2016 school year. The students,
teachers, support staff, and administrators were excited to be back and
we all look forward to a productive and rewarding year.
Open House was held on September 17, 2015 and was well attended.
Parents and guardians had the opportunity to meet their son/daughter(s)
teachers and learn about the courses and classroom expectations.
Our new “Falcon Café” was on display during Open House. The café is a
hands-on, project-based learning experience for our culinary arts
students. These students will prepare and serve the food to Groton’s
Senior Citizens and to Fitch High School teachers and staff during the
school year. This is a great chance for the senior citizens to visit the high
school and witness first hand the good things happening at FHS. Thanks
to Ernie Koschmeider, Groton Public Schools Foods Director and Dr.
Harwell, Culinary Arts teacher for coordinating this program.
Please join us for our 4th Annual “Sounds by the Sea” Marching Band
Competition to be held on September 26, 2015.

courses of” Principles of Engineering” as well “Engineering and
Design”. Project Lead The Way is the nation’s leading provider of K12 STEM programs. The students will be engaged and challenged to
explore a broad range of engineering topics.
Business Department
The Charter Oak Federal Credit union will be opening
th
September 18 for the 2015-2016 School year. Students
from the Fitch Personal finance classes will be working at
the counter as tellers. This is also a great opportunity for
students and staff to open and maintain a personal bank
account.
Math Department
On behalf of all the great math teachers here at FHS, we would like to welcome you back for a
tremendous school year! We are committed to developing every student’s problem solving skills
so that they can find success in their future. Our department has developed exciting ways to
utilize Chromebooks as a tool to aid in student learning this year. The devices will be used to
create realistic problem solving opportunities. We will also use Learning Management Systems to
help our students stay organized. In addition, we are developing opportunities to “flip the
classroom.” This will create more occasions of student problem solving with teacher/peer
collaboration. We are committed to challenging every student and look forward to all of your
support to ensure each student’s success.
Special Education Department
Welcomes new staff members, Rosemary Craig, substitute school psychologist and
Monica Wilkos, special education teacher. Unified Sports has begun for the Fall
