The following is intended as a guide to help walk you through the process of installing a Givi Monorack on a 2nd
generation Kawasaki EX-500. It is only intended to supplement the documents you get from Givi, so you should default
to your Kawasaki manuals and installation instructions provided by Givi.
You should also use your own judgment during installation; if you think something will break, or is incorrect… STOP
Be sure not to strip any of the Phillips screws, as some screwdrivers do not fit them correctly.
Note:
When I purchased my Monorack (used), some of the hardware (bolts) were missing, so I made my own; yours may look
different than those pictured.
Also, these photos were taken with my rack already installed (and most of them with only one side fairing off), so the
steps will look slightly different during your install.

Step the 1st: Remove your seat.
Remove the two bolts that hold your grab bar on. You will require a 12mm wrench/socket to do so. You can then also
remove your grab bar.
Remove the screw (#2 phillips) and small plastic washer. Take note that underneath where the screw was is a small
metal clip (shown in the right hand picture). If the clip falls off, it goes back on with the nut part facing down, and the
flat part facing up.

Remove the screw (#3 Phillips) and larger plastic washer from the bottom of the fairing.
Remove the two screws and plastic washers (#2 Phillips) that hold on the shield for the license plate light. Take note of
the two metal clips that can be seen in the photo on the right. If these fall off, they slide on with the nut part facing up,
and the flat part facing down.
Before you can remove your side fairing, you must first gently pull the plastic tab in the front of the side fairing out of its
rubber grommet.

Now, gently pull straight back on the side fairing (pull it towards the rear of the bike). You will feel some resistance, as
there is another plastic tab and rubber grommet facing rearwards in the back. You can see the location of this grommet
in the photo on the left. Once the fairing is free, you can carefully remove it and set it aside.
The opposite fairing comes off in the exact same manner. Be careful of the small center fairing piece by where the grab
rail was.
Now, you will need to remove your cargo hooks (held on with two bolts), which are located just behind your stock
helmet lock location. Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of this step. The shorter of the two Givi brackets bolt to the
forward cargo hook mount (do not tighten it yet).

Next, you can install the longer of the two brackets. It gets bolted to the subframe with the supplied U-bolt. I put mine
hard against the grab rail mount, so it would not interfere with the seat latch. Again, do not tighten anything yet.
Now, you can install the rail using the supplied socket head cap screws. Do not completely tighten them yet.
Once you have all four brackets and both rails loosely on, it’s time to install the top plate.
Mine is held in place with a couple of socket head caps hidden under plastic pieces, but your assembly may be different
depending on the plate you have. Be sure that the correct part is facing forward/backward, or your case will not go on
correctly (for me, the “rail” portion of the plate faces forward, and the “hook” portion faces backwards). Once again, do
not completely tighten these bolts yet.

Now, you can check that everything is aligned properly. Check that your plate is at the right angle, and that everything is
where you want it. Be sure that your U-bolts aren’t in the way of anything.
Once you are satisfied, gently snug your bolts up and check again (be sure the plate is facing the right way).
When you’re sure you’re happy with everything, remove one bolt and apply a small amount of blue (medium strength)
loctite to it. DO NOT USE RED (permanent) LOCTITE. Replace the bolt (now is the time to tighten it), and continue to the
next one, slowly working your way through all of the fasteners that hold on your Givi. In only takes a few minutes to
loctite your bolts in this fashion, but you ensure that everything is aligned, and that they will not shake-off on the road.
Make sure you’ve tightened all of the bolts (including those that hold the plate to the rails, the rails to the brackets, and
the brackets to the bike).

Re-installing the fairings is just the reverse of removing them, but this time space will be a lot tighter since the rails are in
the way. Be sure to get the small plastic nubs in the center fairing piece (the top two photos) into their slots in the side
fairings (the bottom two photos) as well as the plastic tabs on the side fairings into their rubber grommets on the
subframe.
Be sure that the four metal clips that look like this are all there and oriented correctly.
Be careful not to over-tighten any screws that hold plastic bits together… or you will crack the plastic.
