Changing Times for West Yorkshire’s Trains
Welcome aboard
West Yorkshire’s rail network
Major changes to rail services in West Yorkshire occur
from Sunday 12 December 2004. This booklet has
been produced to give you advance information on
how they could affect you.
Mid-December is now the annual national rail timetable change
date by Network Rail, in bringing the UK in line with the European
Union. A change will still occur in June each year to take into
account seasonal travel demands and weekend engineering work.
Overview of the main changes
A new TransPennine Express timetable with four trains per
hour on Mondays to Saturdays daytime.
A revised late-evening timetable on the Airedale Line on
Mondays to Saturdays incorporating half hourly Leeds
- Skipton service after 2000 and improved connections
at Shipley. Leeds - Bradford Forster Square trains will not
operate after 2000. These journeys can be made by a
connecting shuttle at Shipley.
A revised late evening timetable on the Wharfedale Line
with improved connections at Shipley.
The Leeds - Blackpool service will be combined with the York
– Leeds local service, with revised times.
An hourly Selby - Leeds - Bradford Interchange - Halifax
- Huddersfield - Wakefield service will combine three
separate local services together to provide new direct links to
Wakefield from Bradford and Halifax
The half hourly Leeds - Manchester Victoria service via the
Calder Valley will no longer be a cross-Leeds service and will
have revised times.
A slightly revised pattern for the Leeds - Huddersfield local
service in the Leeds direction.
Revised departure times of Huddersfield - Manchester
Victoria local service in order to serve platform 3 at Marsden
and offer improved connections.
A revised timetable on the Penistone Line, with trains no
longer extended to Lincoln. The Penistone Line will only
serve Elsecar at peak times.
A new hourly express service from Leeds - Wakefield
Kirkgate - Barnsley - Meadowhall - Sheffield on Mondays to
Saturdays, with connections to and from the Pontefract Line
at Wakefield Kirkgate. This will compliment the hourly Virgin
CrossCountry service.
The Wakefield Westgate - Pontefract Monkhill service will
now start from Wakefield Kirkgate, except after 2200 and is
extended to Knottingley throughout the day.
Changing Times for West Yorkshire’s Trains
5
The Wakefield Kirkgate - Sheffield hourly local service and
irregular limited Leeds - Sheffield via Moorthorpe limited
stop services are withdrawn in order to provide the faster
Leeds – Sheffield servive
Additional capacity will be provided on some key peak trains,
including peak TransPennine (York – Leeds – Huddersfield
– Manchester Piccadilly) services.
Printed timetable leaflets for West Yorkshire’s train
services from 12 December will be available early
December at staffed train and bus stations and a
number of other local outlets. They will also be
available to download in pdf format from our web
site at www.wymetro.com
The new Northern Rail franchise, operated by
Serco-Ned, which combines the local services
formerly provided by Arriva Trains Northern and
First North Western commences on Sunday 12
December 2004.
